今天要跟各位講的
Today I'm going to talk about
不退轉
non-retrogression.
在《阿彌陀經》裡面
The Amitabha Sutra mentions
就是說西方極樂世界的人
people in the Western pureland
皆是阿鞞跋致
are all avaivartika.
就是在極樂國土的人
Why are they
為什麼都是阿鞞跋致
avaivartika,
就是他們都不退轉啦
i.e. ones that never turn back in their faith?
他們的信心也不會退轉
Their faith never backslides.
他們的地位也不會退轉
Their status never backslides.
他們的前途都只有向前
They only move forward
不會後退了
rather than fall back.
它叫不退轉的人生
Their lives are ones of non-retrogression.
我們想想
Think about it.
現在我們大家
Sometimes in our
有時候做什麼事
handling of affairs,
these things happen to us:
唉呀 我灰心了
Aiya! I feel so despondent.
我不要做
I don't wanna do it!
不要做了好事不要做了
You don't want to do it
even if it does everybody good.
善門難開
The door of goodness is thus closed.
有時候受了一點氣
Sometimes when you are wronged
給人一種冤枉、委屈
and framed, you feel aggrieved:
唉呀 我非常失望
Aiya! I'm very disappointed.
我不要做了、我退心了
I don't wanna do it! I lose my faith.
有的人信仰
When some religious believers
稍微受了一點冷淡、一點挫折
are given the cold shoulder,
or suffer a setback,
我不要信了
they give up their faith.
這個退轉是很可惜
It is a pity to turn back in your quest.
人生最大的成就
The biggest achievement in one's life
你有了信仰不能退轉
is to keep one's faith unretrogressive.
這個信心
If one's faith
你退轉
keeps
你不退轉就向前
unretrogressive, you move forward;
你退轉就落後了
if you retrogress, you fall behind.
所以像我常講
Like what I always say,
《華嚴經》裡面有一句話
the Avatamsaka Sutra has an apothegm
叫不忘初心
called Do not forget your initial mind.
我們如果不能忘記
Don't ever forget
我們最初的發心
your initial aspiration.
比方說你做記者
Say for example,
you feel unhappy being a reporter.
當初誰叫你來做記者的
In the beginning no one forced you
to become a reporter.
是你自己心甘情願的
You take the job
of your own accord.
那就不會要退縮
Don't back down; keep moving on.
受苦、受委屈也甘願的
Bear all the hardships
with a willing heart.
你做父母
When you've become parents,
這個兒女這麼難教
don't complain about intractable children.
誰叫你要去結婚呢
No one asked you to get married.
誰叫你要希望要有兒有女
It's you who wanted to have children.
夫妻福氣
When husband and wife
live in harmony,
兒女有福也要有氣
so will their children.
所以不要退轉
So never regress.
不忘初心
Do not forget your initial mind.
一切都心甘情願
If one does it willingly,
他就不會退轉
he will not regress.
一切你感覺到難遭難遇
Try to understand that what you got
is actually hard to come by.
你比方
Say,
唉呀 我們做夫妻難遭難遇
it's never easy to have encountered
your husband or wife.
這是有緣分
Affinities made all this happened.
不可以毀約要離婚
So never think of breaking your promise
and going to divorce.
不退轉
Don't backslide on your marriage.
我們做了朋友了
We are good friends.
唉呀 好不容易
It's incredible that
有緣相遇
I encountered you.
我們相交、相處了多少年
We have been friends
for many years already.
彼此互相瞭解、互相原諒
We show understanding for one another.
不要因為一點小事故
Trivialities,
幾句語言
clangers,
一點小小利益就退心了
or conflict of interests
won't set us apart,
我不要交你這個朋友
nor will I unfriend you.
所以不退轉這句話
So non-retrogression
對於我們的人生的鼓勵的力量
is an encouraging force in our lives,
很重要
and is very important.
不忘初心
If you never forget
不忘最初的發心
your initial mind,
那就會生長我的力量
you will be empowered.
我出家
As a monastic,
我不要忘記我最初我要出家
don't forget that it is you who chose
to be initiated into monkhood.
因為父母也沒有逼我
Your parents never forced you to do so;
別人也沒命令我
and no people whosoever
ordered you to do so.
我心甘情願的
You did so all willingly.
所以我就不會退心
Hence you shouldn't regret and regress.
所以希望各位我們佛教的信者
Hope our Buddhist believers
你們信佛教的信仰
keep on with your Buddhist faith,
做功德、求福報、做善事
and continue to make merits, seek blessings,
and do wholesome deeds.
不要因為外面一些
It's hoped that your faith
won't be affected by external
風吹草動你就喪失信心
niggling worries
就退轉
that make you regress.
這是划不來的
This is not worth it.
希望大家道心不退轉
Hope your aspiration for the Way
won't backslide.
