I’ve heard of this martial art, but have never see it until now. Looks very deceptive and explosive...at the same time it looks fun. I can see a lot of the origins of Taekwondo here. Thank you very much for sharing this great art.
Taekyun was never designed for fighting. It was a peasant dancing game, not a martial art, traditionally high kicks were not used either, its a modern invention.
@@mikitadou It has never been a dance game at all. It was a sport like ssireum(Korean Wrestling) with takedowns and kicks. Even the rule of "If you kick the enemy's head, you win" is not traditional, kicks were an important part of taekkyeon and it appeared in many old korean poetries.
From what I have seen about Taekkyeon on other uploads to YT, could it be the case that it might be considered to be an "icebreaker" for those who may wish to explore other martial arts down the road?
Taekkyeon came well before Taekwondo, I believe, and during the occupation of Korea by another culture Taekkyeon was practiced in secret. It is a very exciting MA.
Strange martial art but probably because not much is known about it. I used to think the same thing about Silat until I became more familiar with the art. Kicks are much faster and non telegraphic while TKD focuses more on power. This Korean style is more soft and relaxed giving it more fluid movements. Very flexible too and they have a unique way of kicking like Savate. And the waving hand motions are a good distraction, to disguise your kick. Also makes me think of 52 Blocks, the continuous alternating hand motions. Although their movements are much smaller & tighter and more of a covering action. One criticism I have always had about Korean styles is they emphasize the legs too much, lots of real fights happen at close range and it's important to know how to use your hands. That is why I prefer Kenpo, boxing and I like the principles of Wing Chun. Lima Lama and the Karate style of Tadashi Yamashita also highly effective for close range and deadly hand striking skills. The JKD/FMA techniques that Paul Vunak teaches also very good for the street. But the leg does have a longer reach and it's a good defense against a bigger opponent. It also has more power then your hand. And now that I think about it, I used kicks in three separate situations. First time was a front snap kick to the groin area, side kick to the ribs and the last fight I had I kicked the guy twice in his thigh using my shin like a Muay Thai round kick. All three situations it stopped my opponent. So maybe the Koreans are unto something. But you gotta have some distance to use those kicks.
@@krestonosets68 was I talking about Hapkido ? I don't care if Hapkido borrowed the jointlocks and some throws from that Japanese art does Aiki Jutsu have all the kicks that the Korean art does ? No, because it's not the same art. Anyways you don't understand the point ....boy
You are very lucky I won't meet you in person. You would count your teeth begging me to stop teaching you basic manners. I wouldn't even touch you, my brothers would, historical fertilizer.
Because REAL fighting allows for gap-closing, distance-timing, countering, and take downs. You go into a high-level, no-bars fight with only kicks, no matter how flexible or quick they are, your opponent will time you, close the gap and knock you on your ass with either a flurry of knockout punches or just slam you to the ground with a Judo or wrestling take-down. This may have been relevant when it was actually used to defend yourself in a life or death situation but this obviously has become just a sport for athletic gain, point fighting, or general hobbyism - like Karate in the west, or Tae Kwon Do, even. Not protecting your face at all and moving symmetrically and slowly the way they do between strikes will get timed and picked apart in seconds. However, this is not to say that the art is useless or anything like that. There are aspects of this art that when trained for real, can be applied to real contests or self-defense. The issue lies within the training methodology; if you train for 5 years never posturing or learning how to defend against a REAL angry/aggressive attacked who's totally 100% committed to knocking you out with a right hook or a combination to the face, you will never be prepared for it.
@@KyoungB well I realized how you Korean are really enjoying rewriting history! Korea designed a Taichi flag before 조미수호통상조약 in 1882 without Gua , one Chinese official called Ma Jianzhong suggested that the eight Gua should be adding in the design , later one korean official called 박영효 decided to remove four of eight Gua during his journey to Japan .In 1883 조선 고종announced that the Taichi flag is korean national flag . south korea also uses the Taichi flag as their national flag . the south korean national flag highly show the thoughts of , central Taichi means universe ,blue means Yin , red means Yang ,four Gua arounded mean 乾,坤,坎,离, which are heaven ,earth, water ,fire, white means that Korean people are pursuiting peace
I like the move. It's actually beautiful. But still not effective and too much use stamina. Hard to focus on attack and too many trick eyes. But now I see why so many korean Kpop expert in dancing.
This is not a modern martial art for UFC. It's just an old style for ancient Korean working class people. It's just a cultural heritage, not for street fighting.
We koreans call people who practice Takkyeon 'Succesors', or 'Inheritors' , not fighters. This is because Taekkyeon has much more value as heritage than fighting skills. Taekkyeon is also designated as a UNESCO intangible cultural heritage. We practice Taekkyeon to success our valuable heritage, not to debut on UFC or to conquer the street scene. We'd rather go to Muay thai or Boxing gym if we want to be a winner on the ring.
@@DymaxionKim In Korea, there are Olympic Taekwondo and real Taekwondo. The Olympic Taekwondo has removed the techniques that can be used dangerously in real life, and the real Taekwondo contains all the skills that can kill people. Similarly, Taekkyon has general and actual Taekkyon. In practice, Taekkyon has very dangerous technology and is very destructive.
Taekyun was never designed for fighting. It was a peasant dancing game, not a martial art, traditionally high kicks were not used either, its a modern invention.
@@mikitadou The current form of taekkyeon is the only one that survived the ages, but it is said taekkyeon does come from an actual martial art background, with moves intended for combat. Those moves were later removed when the dancing game aspect of taekkeon was introduced for safe training and spread as a folk game. When peasants were forbidden from practicing martial arts, the older, more combat-oriented style tradition disappeared. However, there's a branch of taekkyeon called 'yetbeop taekkyeon' today, which tries to research and revive the older, combat-oriented tradition. It is a modern recreation, so it may not be exactly the same as the past, but they say the moves are from historical records. If you're interested, search for "Master Hwang" videos for more info.
Because it was designed for battle at first but when you practice it between friends and other villages, its harm and dangerous ,so it became more dance in festivals between villiges than fighting skills There are other martioal arts for soilders , but it had disappeared, This one survived because its used for festival So its like dance without clinical attacking skills
