〈피리독주 상령산 “Sangryeongsan” for solo piri〉
상령산은 풍류음악의 대표적인 영산회상의 첫 번째 악곡으로 느린 속도로 완만하게 진행되는 선비 풍류의 진수를 보여주는 작품이다. “영산회상”은 악기편성에 따라 현악영산회상, 관악영산회상, 평조회상으로 나뉘는데, 이 세 곡 모두 상령산을 포함하고 있다. 상령산은 20박 한 장단의 음악으로 매우 느리면서도 장중하여 정악의 멋스러움이 가득한 곡이다.
The representative pungnyu music, “Sangryeongsan” is the first and the slowest piece of “Yeongsanhoesang,” a large suite comprising nine pieces. During the Joseon dynasty, pungnyu was musical culture among music lovers and literati played in private cultural gatherings, expressing high literary culture. Currently, the term “pungnyu music” is often used synonymously with “Yeongsanhoesang.”
The tempo of the “Yeongsanhoesang” suite follows hanbae, the flow of Korean traditional music that starts slow and gradually increases in speed. Thus, the first piece, “Sangryeongsan,” is the slowest of the pungnyu music pieces. Three versions of “Yeongsanhoesang” differ in instrumentation: “String Yeongsanhoesang,” “Wind Yeongsanhoesang” and “Pyeongjohoesang,” all contain “Sangryeonsan.” Originally, the piece was performed as an ensemble, and today is often performed solo.
