Hi there! Really happy to hear you had a great time in the Netherlands! To answer a couple of your questions: 1. *The three crosses on the flags* Unfortunately, there is no conclusive historical evidence to back up any of the ongoing theories as to where the three crosses come from but the most popular one is that they represent Saint Andreas crosses (to ward off evil or symbolize justice) and this is why they were placed on the coat of arms of the city of Amsterdam. 2. *The mysterious machine* The lady at the machine was telling you about the plastic and can tax that has recently been placed on plastic bottles and drinking cans. When you purchase a soft drink such as Coca Cola in a plastic bottle, you pay a tax of €0,15 on the small bottles and €0,25 on the big bottles. When you return these plastic bottles of drinking cans to these specific machines in the stores, you will receive this tax money back (so think of it as a deposit on the plastic bottles and cans). They did this to incentivize consumers to return the plastic bottles and cans instead of littering them. Much to our chagrin, however, as we Dutch people do love to get our money back whenever we can 😂, not all plastic bottles and cans are accepted by those machines depending on the store they were purchased. So in this specific case, the lady was attempting to return a plastic bottle to get her money back but the machine refused, most likely because the plastic bottle in question was not purchased at the store she was trying to return it to. 3. *Income* I wish our median income was €60.000 a year but unfortunately, that is not the case 😭. The median income of an average Dutch family in 2023 was €35.000 before tax (source: our national bureau of statistics which in Dutch is het Centraal Bureau van Statistieken or shortened to CBS). Speaking of coming back to the Netherlands again, here are some personal recommendations from a local 😏: 1. If you ever plan on visiting the famed Keukenhof, make sure you go in the last weeks of April and the first weeks of May as this is the time most of the flowers will be blooming. 2. Plan day trips to Leiden, Utrecht and Delft, I promise you, you will not regret it. Leiden is a lovely small city with beautiful architecture, gardens (highly recommend the botanical garden) and museums. Delft is quite similar and known for its Delft's blue. Utrecht is a bit larger and very central in the Netherlands and has the same gorgeous traditional Dutch architecture and lots of fun activities. 3. For a delicious authentic Dutch meal, I would highly recommend visiting a good Pannekoekenhuis (Pancake house) where you can have either mouth-watering savory or sweet pancakes. Or go to one of the famous Frietkramen (chip shops) and get yourself a patatje oorlog (Dutch specialitiy). 4. Thrift shopping is great fun in the Netherlands (with an expert on what places to visit). I would personally recommend going to the Kilo Kilo stores (you buy the clothes/kg) as they also have a large section of men's wear and things that will fit given your height and frame. Let me know if you would like to have more information about the Netherlands and what it's like living here outside of Amsterdam (Amsterdam is a culture in itself)!

1:34 those tall bikes are called "klapfiets" or "vouwfiets". These bikes can be folded so that they take up less space. These bikes are often used by people who also need to take a train on their journey. Normal bikes require an additional train ticket, but folding bicycles are free of charge when they're folded up.

The dutch lady explaining the plastic bottle return did that very well and was very nice to offer to let you film. Regular dutch people are quite tourist friendly....as long as you do not walk on the bike path, haha Work life balance is very good in the Netherlands, you will be able to get good paid vacations and are expected to go home on time. The flexible hours are good for parents, daycare costs almost as much as your salary so a lot of the time a parent might as well stay home as long as the kids are not in school yet and fathers too reduce their work week to be home with the kids. So if you want a nice place to live a more relaxed safe lifestyle the netherlands is pretty good. Though getting housing is an issue for everyone.

In the past the smaller Asian women weren't catered for on the bicycle market. Always was a cute sight seeing them on colorful children's bikes😊

I'm from the Philippines(in the Northern province of Luzon). I often struggled to fit in tricycles & jeepneys(Philippine Transportation). Sometimes, my clothes are custom made, because some clothes don't fit me including sneakers. My neck always hurt when talking down to people, and they often ask me if I play basketball, yet I'm only 178cm(5'10") tall! But I also see some people taller than me, probably about 1 or 2 inches taller, seeing like 1 to 3 people taller than me once a day depending on where you are. People in tourist spots are often have tall people than on the streets. I stand out wherever I go, I get stares sometimes when walking down the street, I often got mistaken as a foreigner or a tourist, even though I'm pure Filipino and local here. I can't imagine a 193cm guy walking in my local town, yet alone my whole country. I already get stares when I walk down the streets, but you'll get stared by every person you walk by, even from a distance. You're gonna make everyone feel like they're pre-school again. I can't imagine myself going to Netherlands, I'll feel like a kid again. :)

I'm 194, but I don't even consider myself as extremely tall. Sometimes I have to look up talking to a person and I actually feel small. However I am the tallest among my friends, and a lot of female friends of mine are only 1.50m. Loved the video! Now I wonder how tall I would feel if I were to visit your country!

They tend speak English very well in the Netherlands and wheee I'am from,Denmark.Amongst the best ones in world to do so,hence we speak that well,i.e. most of us,especially the youth and middle-aged ones👍🌈💎

People gives different meaning to it I know 3 of them First the 3 plagues that hits the city (diseases) Second it stands for; Heroic, Determination and Mercifull, But some people say they stand for the 3 canals Prinsen, Heren, Keizersgracht.... To me as a native citizen of Amsterdam its the second one. Hope you enyoyed your stay.😊

Wow there are a lot of gyms in the netherlands! People are very interested here in sports and gym to make their body better. I dont know where you are in the netherlands in small towns we dont have many visible ones but trust me they are there. We have basic fit everywhere and many people have even at home gym. Its not cause we cycle that we dont do other sports haha.. only older people from generation of my grandparents they dont really go gym

There might not be as many gyms all over, but also out of sight and there are fitness incentives at primary schools. Children are introduced to sports early on and you have to learn to swim in primary school. It usually sticks as a habit. I played soccer on my own and Judo, then was introduced to volleyball through such a program and stuck with it. Graduating to high school at 12 years old, I stopped soccer and Judo, but kept with volleyball because I liked it the most. They get exercise at sports clubs and rarely it doubles as a gym. One of the locations I practice volleyball is a sports center and has equipment. The Judo location also had a gym. We cycle too, but that alone is generally not enough.

Just discovered your channel and I love your perspective on my home country❤ When you pay us a visit again, you should go to the Northern city Groningen. It has a beautiful old city center and canals, and is way less focust on tourism. Also people living in the North of the Netherlands are taller then the rest of the country.

I’m 1.88m and I’m the shortest among my 4 siblings who are all over 1.96m except me 😂 mainly because throughout my childhood and teen hood I didn’t eat, sleep a lot and didn’t like exercising but spent too much playing video games from day light to late night instead. Gene isn’t only the biggest thing to being tall but also enough nutritions, sleep and exercise when you’re a kid or teen. Anyway, most people are over 1.80m. Hope you come here again. 3:25 I have to disagree here! I studied in South-Korea, and I felt like the gym culture in Korea was way smaller. I had trouble finding stores for protein shakes, creatine and all that stuff ^^. There were a lot of (smaller) gyms in Korea, but the Netherlands has bigger gyms in general. Gym culture has been growing a lot in the last decade, nowadays everyone and their moms go to the gym in the Netherlands.

The Three X's are not X's, they are an 'Andreas-cross,' It is Christian heraldry. It was inherited from a noble family called 'Persijn' that had it on their family crest, so this part then became the crest of Amsterdam. There is no relation to the American-origin of the modern 'triple X' meanings. Just a case of 'convergent evolution.'

I study in Amsterdam (I'm Dutch) and because of the many international students here (also a lot of Asians), I always feel like i'm surrounded by tiny people compared to the rest of the Netherlands haha! The tallest students are definitely my Dutch classmates. The tallest is 203 cm and he also told me never has any problems with his height!
