I put the J Pro in my 2011 Call Of Duty Jeep in October and the K 1 in November; I’ve had updates to the dash and the radio head since installation. There’s a Manual built in on the K1. I couldn’t get the compass straightened out, no navigation information on the J Pro nor media information to the dash either. Since I almost exclusively use wireless Apple CarPlay, the compass, media and navigation information is no big deal and may be addressed in future updates. The hardest part of the installation for me was swapping out the key pad on the steering wheel…. I named my J Pro “Black Ops” because my Jeep is a Call Of Duty Black Ops. I simply love my J Pro and K 1 and they work well together and I know you will too. Good luck to both of you always.
Well it has been more than a year since I installed the K1 head unit and the J Pro digital dash in my Jeep and I have had not one problem out of either one. I have had 2 firmware/software updates for them both that went without issue. I do not regret spending the money and time to make these crucial and important hardware upgrades to my Jeep. Do the volume and the next song buttons on the back of the steering wheel still work? Also what about calling controls on the steering wheel, answer, hang up, etc and the factory mic still work?
The vents can come off after removing the dash, it makes it much easier to remove because there is a button on the outside of the vent so there is no jank with the flathead.
Luv this system but have one gripe about it and that’s the Batman cam. We are Jeep folks, most of use don’t rock the hardtop all year. Hell I can’t remember the last time I put mines on. I have a fastback soft top. I now have to fabricate a mount for the camera. If you’re not a DIY’er, someone out there is about to make bank on making an aftermarket option for everyone. Wait that’s an idea 🤔🤑I’ll be right back💨
Is there a way to get my dome light to come on when I open my door and the back light on all my buttons and trim seems a lot dimmer now does any one know any fixes?
Great video! Thanks for posting it! I have the same setup, but have a question for you: have you continued to get those random 6 horn beeps after starting your Jeep (beep-beep pause beep-beep pause beep-beep) like you got at ~40:10 in the video? Mine does that occasionally, but only when my Trail Dash (same setup at you!) is connected. It doesn't do it very often, but that is a bit annoying. I'm guessing it has something to do with the JPRO finding a connection on the ODB II Port while performing a self-diagnostic on startup - I say that only because it never seems to happen if the Trail Dash is disconnected (I ran a dozen tests both ways). Regardless, mine does not do it every time - it appears to be very random? Also, for all the K1 users out there, the reason you "have" to use the BatMan Camera from Carobotor is because their harness uses 5V from the USB output and picks up the reverse signal from the CANBUS, while most after-market backup cameras require 12V power from the vehicle and you sometimes have to 'splice' into the acutal reverse wire to activate the camera. That took me a while to figure out since my original camera (which I installed years ago) has the same connector, but didn't work when plugged into the K1 cable. I am not sure how you work around that limitation, though, so I just installed the BatMan Camera.
Yes we still get the horn beeps, I did just unplug the tuner we had on the dash think that might have something to do with it as well, other then that and the Compress we haven’t had any problems, wife loves it
@@thebuckaroos6135 Thanks for the extra information! I really like the JPRO, and am glad I installed it. Like yourselves, I do wish some of the other features worked, but just the "new look" instrument cluster is a definite upgrade, in my opinion. As for the K1, well, I still haven't decided if I love it yet or not - mine is very, very slow to load apps and sometimes reboots randomly (not too often, but enough to be annoying). Unfortunately, I have yet to determine if it is a hardware or software issue. I've reached out to Carobotor, so we'll see what they say (though I've seen from others that their Customer Service is very poor). After reading a bunch of reviews of aftermarket cameras not working and possibly having to be unlocked in the head unit, then trying to communicate with carobotor and some people have to wait to get a response upwards to a month, i choose to order their camera so i would be less likely to have problems, its actually a nice camera, no problems so far
Does this use the existing mic or do you get a new one? Can you watch videos (Netflix, RU-vid, etc...) while the vehicle is moving or does it lock them out while in motion?
I don’t recall adding a new mic, whatever I did in the video, it’s been about a month or so since we made this video, never tried while driving, but next time I’m driving the Jeep I will try it and get back to you! Been a little more then a month and we love it
I haven’t been able to whilst using CarPlay. I have and keep updated essential apps on the K1 to use without a phone presence. I also installed a small Netgear wireless router in the Jeep to provide wireless to the K1, my iPhone and any passengers connected to the LAN.
I bought the K1 came dropped shipped from china! Haven’t installed, but total paid by company was 400 dlls. Company carobotorca Disappointed hope works well. Once installed, anybody has a customer service phone number?
I think those were the sync cables that are only needed to sync the info from the old cluster to the new one. Once the sync is complete, you can disconnect them and put them aside....I think.
I know it's a cool product. But please. For the love of God be careful with it. This thing nearly screwed me on the highway with it's terrible programming hopefully they fixed a lot of the issues and the customer experience is a hell of a lot better today!
Probably user error. I have had not one single problem with either the J Pro or the K1. There is a learning curve to be sure as there are almost endless combinations of ways to use them. I’ve had both mine over a year and they not only gave my Jeep a much needed upgrade, but make my Call of Duty Rubicon a joy to drive. The J Pro alone has many useful features. Good luck to you.
@@macman1138 I doubt user error when they have been sanitizing issues from the web site. The cluster also threw me into hill descent mode on a highway. Refused to register speed and also stopped the inverter from working. After testing with my mechanic for days and swapping it out. Everything went back to normal. They never even responded with updates nor help on email or forums.
