Today at Ugly Truck, we ain't gonna take it... anymore! 🎸 This 1987 K5 Blazer is back from the body shop for a quick engine removal so we can finally find out why there is combustion in the cooling system. If you missed it (playlist link below!) this engine was supposed to be a fresh SBC 350 long block, but a quick teardown says otherwise! Just like the rest of this Blazer, none of the cylinder head bolts were tight, allowing the heads to lift up and combustion gases to pump into and pressurize the cooling system. Let this be a lesson for you: TORQUE SPECS ARE IMPORTANT! The good news is that this squarebody is getting a 6.0 LS swap and a 4L60E, so this basket case 350 can finally be put to rest. Sweeeeet lookin k-5……my parents had a light blue ‘91 k-5 back in the 90’s and that thing was a beast….i remember quite fondly it having a corded phone in it!!!!

It's hard to beat a two tone paint job on these squarebodies! Jeff almost had this one painted solid black back to original, but we're glad he didn't! It's a sharp truck!

Great video, luv your style. Don't waste your time just git 'er done. Wish I was nearby, I'd take that motor, resurface the heads and lap the valves, add a stock Vortec cam and valvetrain I have sitting around, put a good set of composite head gaskets in (they will handle more deck variation than MLS) , put her back together with new hardware and run her on my break in stand up to temp to check her out. Done the same with all sorts of junkyard SBC and LS's and I've had many in worse condition just suck it up and run great for years, no complaints yet. Always someone looking for a cruiser motor with a little extra pop.

ROFLMFAO!!!! You can fix that blazer Jerry. It's just a little scratch lol. Some bubble cam and locktite and your golden. ROFLMFAO!!!! OH!!!! And I don't know if you noticed but there's a small dent right in the middle of the roof. Just in cased you missed it. ROFLMFAO!!!!

Cant wait to see how you're going to use that 4L60e and transfer case with the passenger side drop. Maybe its easy, I dunno. I just kept my th400 and np208 for my blazer cause it was my first swap

We're super excited about this swap! We've had a ton of questions about 4x4 swaps, and we'll be able to answer a bunch of them. On this truck, the 4L60E bolts up to the NP208, but we'll have to change the output shaft on the 4L60E. How do you like the TH400 with your swap?

Hello, I find y’all’s videos really helpful! So far I’ve got my ls sitting in the truck, wired up I have the fuse box and water reservoir along with the radiator hold down as y’all do in the videos but I am having an issue and was wondering what cable y’all use for drive by cable throttle body. When you bolt your lift chain to a cylinder head of the LS engine. What size bolt , threads and grade of bolt do you use to hold the weight of a chained Ls engine .

I noticed this blazer is manual transmission. Are you doing this one currently? If so I was wondering if it would be possible to come and meet you and talk to you about it? I am doing a 1985 chevy crew cab dually swaping in a 6.0 lq9 from a 2005 Cadillac Escalade and my truck has the SM465 4 speed transmission in it also. I have had guys tell me that LS swaps don't work well with manual transmissions So i would like to get your take on that. I live up by clinton missouri but need a reason to go to Grizzly tool and Lamberts Cafe anyhow. Lol

Hey neighbor! 👋 Yes, this Blazer is going automatic. We haven't done a manual transmission with an LS swap yet, but from what I understand, they can be tricky to tune. We'd recommend finding a good local tuner and talking to them about it. And if you're not busy on September 7th, come say hi and check out the C10 Cruise N' Show just north of Springfield! Thanks Dan. I love our Bend Pak equipment, but that hoist has squeaked from the day I put it in. It drives me nuts when I hear it. One of these days when I get a spare moment I am going to tear it apart and grease it again. Thanks for watching. Jerry
