yeah, and i'm sitting here thinking 'nice find' but if i did that and brought it to my mechanic for all the work he did on it right here i'd have another $3k into it easily depending on which bandit (oops, i mean mechanic) i would take it to. yes, it's great to be able to do your own work. i've got only 142k on my '06 1/2 ton 5.3 extended cab (bought used 7 years ago) and am hoping to get many more miles out of it yet up here in WI before it truns to a complete pile of rust. so far, it looks like my adding wheel opening fender flares and plastic rocker panels to it to cover rusted out ones just added $5k in value (lol) and make it look like a much newer truck. people seeing it for the first time since the minor cosmetic upgrade scratch their heads trying to figure out exactly what's different about the truck...lol. one thing is for sure...these are great trucks! couldn't afford a $70k truck on my best day ever...

Great job on this truck. The oil change and fluid levels check at the beginning of a 3000 mile drive gave this truck a chance to "blow everything out" of the engine. The complete fluids and filter service at home, plus other maintenance, is what people should do or have done when they buy a pre-owned vehicle. Of course, they need to have a pre-purchase inspection (PPI), but you seem to be able to fix anything :). You set a great example for people and their vehicles. THANK YOU!

As a first time viewer and retired auto tech, I really appreciate you and your channel. Your honesty, personality , thoroughness, knowledge and attitude toward maintenance and economical fixes are refreshing. One thing I would suggest, when checking ball joints, it is needed to "unload" the ball joints. Meaning, when the wheels are off the ground, most "long-arm short-arm" control arm setups fully extended and the suspension travel stops when the upper control arm compresses the rubber (I'll call) "top out" bumper(as opposed the "bottom out" rubber bumper. Otherwise, the torsion bar in, this case, is forcing the control arms into a "loaded" position. Your channellocks will not overcome the pressure of the torsion bar . Hope that makes sense. Please continue the great channel!!!!

Waldo, I really like how calm you are throughout the entire process. If I were doing something like this, I would have had the luck to break at least three of the four hub retaining bolts, needed a 1” pneumatic air hammer to remove the axel shaft nut, wedges to remove it off the spline, 10# hammer to remove the upper ball joint, snapped a spark plug or two and all of it would have needed torches to expand the rust. I loved this episode. There’s something incredibly pleasing and satisfying about working on an older vehicle that is in nice condition underneath. No struggling with rusted bolts etc. Unfortunately that’s rare here in the UK as the first sign of colder weather and the salt gritter trucks are out! Great content . I bought a 1997 Chevrolet k1500 4x4 with a rebuilt 5.7 a d just redid all the front end components. Still hv the front sway bar bushings and window locks on the extended cab part and tackle the rear brakes , leaf springs and change the gear oil . I bought it based on the rebuild that t was done.

Waldo is back!!! Hope you all did not have any flooding while back, in NC we had poor air quality due to the Canadian forest fires. Last week we had a heat wave, 94-96f everyday. Nice truck for your Dad. Being pulled over was not fun. Make more videos!!

I'm not from Montana but I feel proud of those Troopers for doing their job making sure the vehicle isn't stolen. I would want them to do the same if my car was being driven around.

I bought one of these older GM trucks for dirt cheap with a bit of body rust but solid frame, fully loaded leather with 130k miles and they are a great mix of old-school simplicity and modern features!

I bought one of these new in 2003 for 35000. Drove it for 14 years and 140000 road miles. Great trucks with fairly low maintenance

What a cleanly executed project. Thank you for entertaining us and yes we would like to see more content like this. Thank you for the auction and broker information as well. If you have anymore tips on how to bid and what to look for in an auction thise are also valuable. From Boston being chased by rust.

This video just popped into my feed today! I'm not happy that RU-vid waited this long to recommend your channel! It's right in the wheelhouse of all of my favorite channels. You've earned a new sup and I can't wait to watch your back catalogue! Thanks for the great tips! Your dad got the perfect used truck imo.

This was a great video! You really put in a lot of relevant content very compactly and efficiently. I have a 2003 GMC C1500 Sierra, so yours was a close enough cousin. Your dad is lucky to get such a creampuff of a truck, and so properly serviced, as well. I used to buy new trucks frequently for my job, back when they were reasonable, and I drove a lot. Things have changed a lot in the past few years.

Waldo this is the first of your videos I have seen! Outstanding job on getting the truck back home and getting it back in great shape! I went ahead and subscribed and will have to watch your other videos! I live in Eastern Washington and cars & trucks from here are fairly rust free compared to other parts of the Northwest! A few years back I bought a 69 RS Camaro that had sat under a carport for maybe 25 years with a bad timing chain. Anyhow it only had a few pinholes on the left side under the rear window otherwise very solid. You will not see that on a 69 Camaro from Western Washington! Thanks for the great content!

NGK Laser Iridium spark plugs and NGK coils are always my go to. I've used them on my '05 Accord, '07 MDX, '09 tC, and '11 Malibu. Every vehicle had a 5%-10% MPG increase with them.

This was a really awesome video. It was beginning to end and everything was comprehensive. You are my favourite RU-vidr, very happy to have discovered you. I have a 2003 L322 RR, similar to yours which is why I love that playlist, but seeing the engine bay and the work you did on this just made me want an old American truck. We don’t have many in New Zealand and what we do have is Left hand drive lol.

I bought 2003 Chevy xpress body motorhome with 6l 8 cylinder vortec engine. They have the same engine as Silveradoes. I changed the oil and drove it from Delaware to Utah round trip. Those engines are solid strong engines. It gave me 0 problem. Beautiful engine. The only problem you might have with these engines will be gas smell. You will see pressure in gas tank especially hot weathers. 60 dollars part change it and keep driving

You remind me of well, me. When I purchase a truck I check everything no matter what the previous owner says he's done. I especially change the motor mounts, fan belts , upper and lower, change shocks and ball joints, spark plugs and wires, Right now I've got that tapping noise on the motor that 5.3 L engines are known for. It's a 2005 5.3 L gas engine. Ironically the passenger rear window has the same problem you had on your truck. I'm not quite done yet as I can't do it all myself$$. Thanks for your video.

This truck reminded me of mine. I had a 2003 1500HD crewcab 6.0L I had 220,000 miles on her, and on the original brake pads and rotors. Owned her from brand new 11-10- 2002 this was a great truck. It was stolen 1.8 years ago, I drive a Traverse now, it's nice. I do miss my truck and won't pay $75,000. I might look into this auction. I really enjoyed your video thanks for posting it.

Enjoyed your video. Smart move to buy a truck like this (pre-active fuel management, which has problems) from the West Coast and take it home to NH. You saved a ton of money. It's a solid truck that will last a long time. Great job on the fluids service. One thing you should be aware of is the transfer case pump rub. It's a well-documented issue. Best to address it sooner rather than later. I have a 2003 Sierra 2500HD (8.1/Allison) and picked up an upgrade kit from Merchant-Automotive.
