Our friends Mobile Suites Fifth Wheel went through a Hurricane in Florida and it survived. 62 of 68 RVs were destroyed at Creek Side RV Resort in Punta Gorda. This video shows the destruction and what they did to help their RV survive the hurricane. Luckily their RV is very heavy. Maybe some of these tips will help you in a severe storm but Mother Nature will make that decision.

we have been through many close calls with tornadoes if you can get out of the area but always know where the closesr shelters are safe travels

Yes, we were near a tornado once on a peninsula and there was no where to go, so we closed everything up and sat in the truck listening to the path on NOAA weather. We were lucky.

I'm looking at this video because I'm right in the path of the hurricane coming this Thursday and this video is really freaking me out. I really want to leave but I do not have a tow vehicle of my own.

There should be no reason to leave your RV behind you have plenty of warning

Very sad about the amount of RV's destroyed. One of the campground we stayed in FL had metal hooks in the concrete pads to be able to chain your RV down. Great ideas! - Michelle

We have lived all over Florida during our life and there is absolutely no reason to stay in an RV during a hurricane. We take our RV out of the path even during tropical storms because the amount of tornadoes that come with them is unpredictable. When your rv reaches 5 years old insurance companies enjoy not paying out or pay chicken scratch when they do. We have had to rebuild twice after hurricanes but we always had our rv to live in after the storm. Take advice from a native DON'T STAY!

I’m sorry but if I know that a hurricane is coming my way I’m hooking up and going the opposite way it’s going, don’t need the hassle dealing with the insurance company. I live in Houston, Texas and have been in a couple of them in my life 👍👍👍

Hi guys.. It was so sad about all those rvs being destroyed... All the information you gave was very good.. We of course would have hooked up and left... Filling the tanks up was an excellent idea never thought about that... The x chocks is something that we use all the time... Hooking up also helps stabilize it a little bit better which is something we had to do when we were working... Very good video thank you...stay safe...J&A2ofus

Same here. You get a lot of warning for hurricanes to leave days in advance and very little warning for tornadoes and basically nothing can survive a tornado.

We were in an area 10 miles out of Ray Quebec when a tornado touched down. We had the wind and rain but missed the tornado. We had that thought of what happens to rv's in storms like that as our phones lit up with the emergency warning. Being new to the area we would not have known a safe direction to go as we barely pulled in when the emergency was declared.

2 years ago we left Marathon Key a day early because a tropical depression was headed for it. The next day they got 10 inches of rain and had 70mph wind. Glad we weren't there.

We had to leave Alabama one time due to a hurricane heading that way. Trees down everywhere. So glad we left.
