I've never turned this wood before and I (and you) just can't believe the bright colors in this piece! Remarkable! But, it was a lot of work to get there!

Amazing coloration of this juniper. I kept hollering at you not to fill that void, but it did provide a visual comparison so folks know the next time you ask. 😉 I like how you take on a variety of challenges and end up creating gorgeous pieces. Thanks for sharing your talent!

Even though I appreciate your high tech dust collection system, I voted against "Philling" the hole in the bottom of the bowl. But I must accept the majority decision and the result of the patch, which really isn't bad looking, just not the natural approach that we've come to know and love. The result of your creative turning is magnificent with all the levels and curves and angles around the top. And that wood is spectacular! (I love the smell of pencils in a sharpener.) Thank you for creating this wonderful piece!

@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop Being from the northwest I’m surprised you don’t know what a pfitzer juniper is. It’s a low growing, fairly fast growing shrub most often found in the front of people’s homes. You’ll see it as a barrier between the sidewalk and the front lawn or along the side property lines. I have a piece of juniper root that I dug up and finished as a 9” tall stand for whatever you would put on a stand. I don’t know how to attach pictures here in RU-vid or I would’ve sent it to you.

I was a little perplexed to think how you could find enough clean wood to create something but you did it and it's beautiful. The colours are sublime. I didn't want the hole to be filled with ground chips and glue, but it was interesting to see the contrast between the holes and the filled hole. All in all, I LIKE it! I think it would make a good fruit bowl.

World Class piece as always Phil. I am with you, I do not ,like the patches. Regardless of what the void might look like, it is natural and not artificially filled. The voids are where the Gremlins live. Some of the most desirable bowls I have turned have voids inside. Let us keep "Mother Nature" first and foremost.

Hi 👋, Phil from Phil, I hope you are all keeping safe and well, That surely is amazing, beautiful grain, that mother nature has made, and you, of course, 😂 . I think it was right to fill it , firstly we have made it a bit darker, and I know you don’t like using it, but I might of use resin with colour, but nature is what it is, and it produces some amazing growth and sculptures in its process, I think it looks amazing. A beautiful piece of art , Well done. Phil, stay safe, Phil from the moulin France.

Mate, I watch a lot of wood turning videos with their shiny, polished resin segments and stunning bowls but your work is a real adventure. Not just for you, obviously you gain a lot of satisfaction from it which we also share with you. I usually initially disagree with your decisions (e.g. patch or not) but damn it the finished piece always shows you were right all along. As for your patter, I tend to find this annoying from others but yours is so natural and unscripted, it wouldn’t be the same if you kept silent. I especially loved the lead up to your state-of-the art dust collector. Totally cracked me up when you demonstrated it. Thank you sincerely.

I tried to read a lot of the comments before I made one and I couldn't find what I was looking for so in case you were wondering Juniper's are related to Cedar most Juniper's are in the same family which is why they look like they do. And Cedar is the most popular wood for making pencils which is why you have that smell. But it is another beautiful piece as always thank you for these wonderful videos!

Hi Phil ! Your little giggle at the 8-minute mark and "Wow'ee!" said it all. We've had about 3 nights of cooler temps; such a relief. Got one night of mid 50s (around 3 a.m.). The mosquitoes were fierce this year (with all the rain). Lake at RECORD high!!!. Glad we didn't get all that precip in the form of snow. Bro in Province west of me got hail the size of apricots. A first for us. He's closer to the Great Lakes; I'm farther north and downstream from him, so, no hail here hopefully, however. (I wonder if Eliza Doolittle could say all them h-words, aïe? Ha ha.) Hey, Phil! Beautiful bowl, but when you asked your audience whether or not we wanted you to fill the hole, I said yes, but thought you meant ‘PHIL’ the hole. 🧐 🙄🤣I thought the ‘fill’ looked a little like fine sand or gravel and was pretty in its own way. Thank you for another great video!

I too subscribe to the natural approach and would like it either way. The filler retains the color of the piece and blends well. It is not immediately evident because there is so much to absorb. The filler provides a touch more utility. Good job and thanks for sharing.
