I know you like the singers of times gone by, well prepare yourself. At sixteen years old, her skill level is like a woman of forty who's paid her dues on stage and screen. What makes AJ so special is how most reactors treat her as an adult. Her body of work, her voice, her musicality, her arrangements, are all next level at such a young age. Even more special, is in most cases, she is practicing and does these in one or two takes. We have been lucky enough to bear witness to her voice progression. My Funny Valentine shows us she is still getting better. She just turned 16!! In 10 years her vouce will be fully matured. I can't imagine what she'll sound like. I would love to hear some remakes of earlier covers like Autumn Leaves, Song for A, and What a Wonderful World.

In 1983 I got my mom to buy me the Thriller album and I would play that record over and over. And I never understood/paid attention to the lyrics to this song from that point until I first heard Angelina sing it. It was Ile hearing the song for the first time all over again. Nice job, Maunalee! Compared to the original, Angelina's cover here has no distractions, many fewer camera views. Think of it, monochromatic sets, a single camera angle, she is not moving, no dancing, no moon-walking, certainly no glove. She is, in her sweet way, saying "Nothing really to see, just listen to the story". Her unstated message may well be...I can take on the King of Pop with voice alone, give the audience a new totally transformed thing, and cause them to hear the message for possibly the first time. Talk about setting a high bar for yourself (and on an iconic song no less)! She is bold and fearless..always has been. If one draws a circle that contains all the musical real estate that Angelina has "touched" in her special way, then draws a larger circle around the first that contains all the tunes she "could" transform" - that second circle is really large! Maunalee, I also felt like I heard all the lyrics for the first time. Angelina is, IMO, the ultimate singer story teller. She puts me into the story of the song while her beautiful soulful, jazzy tone massages my soul. What I find interesting is that the Michael Jackson video is not just about the song, but also about the staging, the dancing, and the colors (mainly yellows, reds and purples....hmmm). Angelina's version I think pays homage to Michael by not trying to compete with his dancing and choreography. Instead, it is just Angelina, sitting and singing, with just a piano for accompaniment. Admittedly, Angelina maybe did go overboard with the colors (yellow, red, and purple....hmmm). Anyway, I was impressed once again by her vocals.
As long as you’re back doing some Angelina Jordan might I suggest her latest cover of “My Funny Valentine”. It was released on Valentine’s Day a few weeks ago. It’s quite literally the best cover of that song that’s ever been done.
After I first heard her sing "I Who Have Nothing" I thought of how wonderful it would have been for her to perform on "The Voice" UK for Sir Tom Jones. In typical Angelina fashion her performance resembled a previous hit with her own flavor. In this case it was Sir Tom Jones. Can you imagine his face when he turned around and saw a tiny little six-year-old girl belting out one of his hits?

As she said, she had been wanting to sing for Simon since she was 3 years old. She would not have had that opportunity on The Voice, although competing with like performers. Simon and his gang had been trying to sign Angelina for years, so she was known to them and invited to compete on America's Got Talent - The Champions, for those who had competed in or won previous world-wide ...Got Talent shows. I think she was ready to get some exposure to Americans and this presented a good opportunity. Michael Astar, her manager and uncle, negotiated a favorable contract with AGT that precluded having to sign with Simon, even if she won. All in all it was a win-win situation.
Her latest release is her best vocal. so far, IMO. On Valentines Day she released her latest version (16 yo) of the classic jazz standard, My Funny Valentine. She has done it twice before as a child at 9 & 10 & both are amazing. But she has really grown up now & this song, recorded by over 600 artists on 1.300 albums, is the most beautiful vocal I've ever heard & if ever there is a performance that merits an 11 on your scale, this is it. M, You are going to get a great many requests to do a double reaction. That being Angelina’s 2016 and 2022 covers of, “My Funny Valentine”. The first being her ten year old version and the second being her sixteen year old version. The sixteen year old version was released on Valentine’s Day this year.

The audio on your version of "My Funny Valentine", sounds better than Boris' version. I have tried to synthetically improve the audio on the original with some success, which I use for my own selfish consumption.😆. The problem with the IG post was the extremely low bitrate, which made a mess out of the high frequencies. Boris' upscaled version magnified the synthetic artifacts to a point where I have trouble listening to it. Apparently not all people hear the same way, because many seem oblivious to the poor audio quality or they have gotten used to it. Even the IG post of "Someone Like You" has noticeable audio problems. I guess it's possible that IG imposes restrictions on file size which reduces audio quality. I hope that Angelina has higher quality copies of these performances.

I think what ever Angelina sings is great. I agree with you I think she should be on the Voice USA but I would also like to see her sing with Adele, Queen, and Lionel Richie now they would be some duets.
This arrangement is so unusual that even though you really liked it, you will love it more each time you hear it. It’s hard to imagine any singer that could come close to covering Angelina here, let alone come up with the arrangement. It shows not only Angelina’s unique vocal talent, but also her musical fearlessness in her choices. As always, it’s 100% Angelina, but the respect for Michael and the original classic is there. One extra comment-I think it’s well past the time to be surprised that Angelina understands the meaning of what she’s singing. Listen to her cover of Adele’s “A Million Years Ago” or Rihanna’s “Stay” (both at ten years old) and so many others to hear incredible interpretations of mature lyrics and themes. It’s not just Angelina’s amazing voice that makes her unique. She lives the lyrics of what she’s singing.

At thirteen when she was on AGT:TC she would have given any of the adults a run for their money but would probably have been eliminated during the voting rounds because her voice doesn't fit in the mainstream sound. If you look at her most recent videos, most of which you haven't reacted to probably because they are posted on TikTok or Instagram, then reposted on RU-vid random fan accounts, she would simply break the show because she has improved so much and her talent is undeniable. "House of the Rising Sun" and "My Funny Valentine" are two of the recordings that show the level of vocal control that I am talking about. Of course, she has become too successful now for participating in any such show to be anything but counterproductive.
This truely shows how she`s rooted in jazz by heart and soul, in her relation to, and understanding of music. I mean, is there even one other soul out there who ever thought this thought? Remember too that Angelina is friends with Omer Bhatti, MJ's children's Nana's child and one of the judges on Norway's Got Talent, who some think this song might have been about. In the same way that Angelina Jordan arranged Bohemian Rhapsody and stripped it down to it's emotional core, in Billie Jean, as you said, you can understand the lyrics, and you can feel the emotional experience. I have no clue where any human would get this ability. She touches your soul.

Angelina's uncle/manager said in an interview that she was not allowed to win AGT because she wouldn't sign with The company that runs the show. But they wanted her on so badly that they agreed to let her have the rights to the songs she sang in the show. It's funny to watch because the judges act like they don't know her but they had been trying to get her on the show for years. Heidi absolutely knew who she was and was so excited that she was on.

I believe it was a german interview where he talked about the winners having to sign a record deal with them and Angelina wouldn't do that so they went on for the publicity in the US. Yes, Maulalee, I would love Angelina to audition for the Voice. I think she is still young enough to qualify for the Voice Kids. I dream of Angelina starting to sing in the Blind Auditions and the judges fall out of their chairs after the first line. But I have an internal debate as to what song would she choose to sing. Angelina didn't really go on AGT to win. She's been big in Europe for a long time. The big picture was to sing for Simon and introduce herself to the US audience. Mission accomplished!

It is funny isn’t, how I managed to never really hear the lyrics or really the story until Angelina slowed the song down and sang it. I am not sure you have done Angelinas cover of Heal the world which came out around the time this Billie Jean cover came out.. Angelina is totally amazing and I cant wait till the summer where i will be at 2 of her concerts here in Norway ❤ It will be awesome 👍
Re the mike: current USB attached mikes with Windows 10 and 11 do not provide enough gain, despite all the internal settings. There is a program I use, Voice Meeter, that will provide futher gain. That said, with so much gain, you will be increasing the background noise. The solution, for me, is to use a simple clip-on mike, with a 1/8" plug, on my shirt, close to my mouth and then reduce the gain. An alternative, since you already have a nice mike, is to position it 2-3 inches from your lips. You will have more presence, eliminate the room echoes, and we will not be able to hear your child in the background :-).
