This is the latest treat that Angelina gives us, as she plays her Fender at 5am at her house, her fantastic short, scratched and deep version of this famous song (the Animals in comparison look like guys playing), recorded and sung in the purest Angelina Style (one of many 😅). Thanks Maunalee, my heart dropped when Angelina posted this and for good reason. Grew up with this song and this is simply spectacular given it is just her, guitar, camera and that absolutely golden voice. All that is needed. Thanks for sharing and supporting the Angel as always.

What I love about these small snippets is that they can be precursors of what is to come. I won't be surprised to see her first major album contain full, studio performed versions of some of these snapshot covers. The years 2022-2023 are going to be yet another set of magical years, my Angel friends.
Wow, another great, entertaining reaction Maunalee! I too, love this beautiful song. Angelina’s cover immediately shot up to the top of the list of this song’s best version, IMHO. I also love how you gently noticed Angelina’s “interpretive” mispronunciation. 😬 Every time I hear it, it brings a smile to my face and it immediately reminds me that she is either proficient or conversant in FOUR languages. She certainly is familiar with the “mispronounced” word, and yet it occurred to me that she has probably only discussed that word in her native Norwegian. Like I said, it brings a smile to my face ever time I hear it. 😊❤️👣
Interestingly, Angelina sang "She sewn my new blue jeans" (she said 'soon') just like the Animals version. I had to correct myself and not attribute that as a mispronunciation.
Interesting observation Ken. I’m definitely going to check it out. I assumed Angelina’s was a “mispronounciation”, but I do recall (from listening to it decades ago) that like many blues/jazz standards, stylistic pronounciations are the norm... enunciation takes a back seat to style. When it comes to jazz, never underestimate Angelina’s studied scholarship. 😉❤️

I'm glad Angelina didn't sing the original lyrics for House of the Rising Sun. It was about a young girl who turns to prostitution at the House of the Rising Sun. I Believe it was Lead Belly who changed the lyrics to a male protagonist in the 1930s.
She has not done a cover of Fast Car yet, but Tracy Chapman is absolutely an artist I hope Angelina will discover. From the same time I also remember the British artist Tanita Tikaram. I think that she had a couple of songs that deserves a cover. And by the way, in some of the early pictures of Tanita she just looks like Angelina with a short hair style.
I was watching one of your reaction’s of At Last, you were talking about Angelina voice and I wanted to tell you that I’ll be there was the other song she sang witch you mentioned. She had a really bad cold from when she was in India barefoot but she insisted she do the show, she is tough as nails 🙏👍
your reaction at the end with your hands all over your face was like something I imagine one of your cute kids would do. And then a look of "what can you say about that???" This was the second song I learned on guitar 33years ago. It's a great song for Angelinas level of guitar playing. But nobody has sung it like that. She's just messing around and having fun with it and improvising with her favourite influences and her own epic talent and experience. She knows how to win the approval of us older generation. She's a talented and loveable grandchild.

There are many fan recording of the live concerts, some great quality. You have plenty to choose from to catch up! I would recommend "Suspicious Minds", a tribute to the "King" and her live version of "Mt Everest". Both are stunners. She first introduced Mt Everest at a live concert live and it shocked me.
Most people know this song from the Eric Burdon and the Animals cover. This old folk song was originally written from a woman’s point of view. Since “The House of the Rising Sun”, was a house of ill repute, that made more sense. She sang how her life was in ruin from sin and misery. I think there is an old recording from the 1030s somewhere on the internet of the original song.

I recently heard an old version of this, by Bob Dylan, with the more correct lyrics. It's meant to be sung by a woman, it's not her father who's a gamblin' man, it's her lover, and you can guess what the house of the rising sun is. It's more touching that way. (This song is something like a hundred and fifty years old -- the animal's version with a male voice is new, only about 55 years old)
Born New Orleans 1968. Moved to North Carolina 1971. Still love red beans and rice. Still love Zydeco. Still pronounce it New Awlins. Apparently that's how natives say it. The songwriter must have been from there, and quite frankly, it sounds better in the song. Flows better. Unbelievable how as she gets older she just gets better. "Empress of Jazz" indeed. This is not really one of her "better songs". But she has over a hundred covers That would blow your socks off. She has covered songs by Adele, Whitney, James Brown, Dinah Washington, Cher, Elvis, and a lot of others. She can sing just about anything. She grew up singing jazz type songs. Today she is 16, but has done studio work since she was 6. Won Norway's Got Talent when she was 8. Became Norway's youngest published author at the age of 9. She does her own arrangements. She can also play the piano. Normally she doesn't play an instrument when she sings.
Although Angelina sounds awesome singing anything, this style displays her talents more than any other. And while I like seeing Angelina playing guitar, I think having a supreme instrumental talent accompanying her and for her to concentrate on singing is the right formula for her. Not that she seemed a bit distracted or her singing was diminished, it is just that there are better guitarists than her and her vocal talent deserves the best possible accompaniment.

@@tomwhite4736 Not at all, that wasn't even close to the point I was trying to make. I loved watching her impromptu self-accompanied performance for TikTok and would love to see more of it. Very few professional musicians allow such casual moments to be recorded and published because they worry that anything less than their best will be criticized (as well as not monetized). Angelina obviously has the self-confidence as well as the talent not to be concerned with such things. What I was talking about were more formal performances and recordings. Angelina herself has always surrounded herself with talented musicians and I think it has worked well for her. I have seen so many other singers who insist on self-accompaniment when their ability doesn't justify it like all those who can do little more than strum some chords on a guitar. I imagine that Angelina was probably better than that when she was very little since she seems very proficient now, but there is something to be said for specialization.

Might not have been a mispronunciation, but something like a vowel modification. That is not uncommon, especially in contemporary music. Words come out totally different sometimes, but it flows better within the lyrics.
@@KarmaKahn I know she often does vowel manipulation, but the only other time it sounded wrong was what she did to the word toad in "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road."
This reactor picked out pronounouciation in her 1st reaction of ANGELINA, she is still banging on about it ,she was wrong then and is now, I'm glad I'm making this comment after she has given a good review otherwise it would look like sour grapes. After watching all of her reactions of ANGELINA I'm convinced she is out of her depth, music/ radio background or not, she is never satisfied always finds a criticism from somewhere.

I know you weren't crazy about "I Put a Spell On You," which is fine but if you look at Screamin Jay Hawkins version, TzYt8danKwWnx, (His face is on the coffee mug she's holding), you might have a better appreciation of what she pulled off at age 9. Also, the version of "Feeling Good" you reacted to was not her best. To me she sounded like she had a cold or something. When I first saw this I was convinced it was a very good lip sync by someone trying to mimic AJ. The voice is unmistakably her, but the different eye color, blushy cheeks, and some other things just didn't seem to be her. I'm not saying that she shouldn't have the right to do those things, just that in a world with so many people already trying to scam others it just makes it easier to see this as someone's attempt to gain clicks that shouldn't be theirs. I stand corrected in this case, of course... and yes, AJ is aMAZing.
Always enjoy your reactions. For some reason no matter how hard I try, I just can't get into Angelina. Maybe that's because I'm a metalhead, but even then they're are non-metal voices I don't mind. I know I'm in the minority, and when I say I don't really like her sound I take nothing away from her talent. She's just not for me.

If you'd like to try a new singer, you might consider Emily Linge. She's not Angelina but she can sing. Glad you and your family are feeling better!
Emily Ling is a fantastic singer, instrumentalist, and great role model to any teen wondering what dressing well means. Also, as closely AJ is watched by her label and mom, Sara, a language teacher, I believe AJ's Norwegian accent creeped into that relaxed impromptu performance.

I've noticed before that every now and then Angelina mispronounces a word she's not familiar with, even though her English is very good. Emily Linge is a very talented singer and also plays the piano and guitar well. She deserves some recognition.
