Who' would have predicted, that I'm gonna be helped from a neighbor at the north side of Danube river! I had to struggle for a couple of hours to slide the new pads preinstalled and pinned inside the caliper until I finally gave up and came to RU-vid and found your helpful tutorial video. Yes the American way doesn't work on German motorcycles - you've got to do everything in order and definitely wash your bike beforehand.😃 Everything went smooth and fast. I use locktite (removable) on the three screws securing the mud fender as well. Cheers Romania!!!

Great video. I did the same job but "exercised" and lubed my piston while out. I also lubricated the parts of the pads that bear against the caliper as well as the pin shaft so they all groove nicely in and out. Thanks buddy!

Hi Buddy. Nice clear instructional, I changed the pads in 20minutes, thanks. I always add a little smear of Copper anti-seize paste to the back of the pads where the pistons push, it stops pad rattle. Keep on Rockin in the Free World!

Well put together video. Thanks. I use Brembo sintered in the rear as I do a lot of two-up riding. The GS just seems to eat other types of rear pad way too quickly! 👍

Enjoyed your clear explanations on this job. My pin, on which pads are held isn’t pushed out, but has to be “pecked” out from the front, using a very small punch. 2006 GSA. THANKS! I’m

Thanks for the helpful video. You didn't mention taking the backing plate off the old right side pad to put on the new right side pad or did your new pads come with a backing plate already fitted?

@rikherlaar

Thanks and yes, brakepads are easy peasy to replace but........... Any idea how to remove and replace the rear disc (rotor) on recent GS1200's and GS1250 by any chance - older models it was easy to reach the retaining bolts but newer models it seems the final drive assy cover is larger and it covers a wider area which makes it near impossible to get to the torque bolts unless there's a trick I'm unaware of. I spent a 100 Euro on new rear rotor but seem unable to replace it myself - what a bummer.

"THEY" say that you should have same pads for the front and rear and I agree. The reason is that there is a difference in the coefficient of friction between organic, ceramic, semi metallic and sintered even between same type but of different brands. This is especially true with linked braking systems that share brake line pressure. Heavy braking will cause one wheel's ABS to activate earlier if it's brake pads have a higher coefficient of friction. If the bike has no ABS, then one wheel will skid before the other wheel. Good video for procedures though. Thank you.

My BMW owners manual, which many peeps forget to look at advises that “my” GS takes sintered front pads and organic rear…. ? …. How is that explained? I’d imagine BMW knows best… Probably explains why many complain about GS rear pads not lasting long…
@mattcero1
@mattcero1 2 года назад
@@markwilson2398 Interesting man. Perhaps BMW is thinking they'd want one wheel to go into ABS mode before the other? That's assuming the above which is different coefficients of friction. Anyway, here's some technique I did when installing my last set of pads. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RRBEhndPVmM.html

I have a 2020 r1250 gs only 500miles on it! My rear rotor gets quite hot! Some people say because when you brake the bike re directs some of the pressure to the rear!! Is this accurate?? Fronts are little bit hot! I do use both of my brakes i dont know! I just dont want to go the dealer and have some monkey work on my bike for 2 weeks just to tell this is totally normal! Nice videos dude!!! Where is dave btw?? 😂

For brake pad replacment only, you don`t have to remove the caliper. But if you do so, it is better to clean it also with brake cleaner, and soft brush to put some special grease for caliper pistons, and some cooper paste in the back of the brake pad on the piston side only. I suggest you an update about it 😉

@AffyNoX

Before removing the brake pad, use a grip to slowly press it to depress the caliper piston. Then you can easily remove the pad and install new.

I just posted a comment! Im having my rear rotor quite hot i have an r1250gs 2020 some people have told me that this bike redirect some of the brake pressure to the rear first before the front ones! Idk i think it might be true that might explain why yours are wearing more than usual! Idk im just saying!

Good and very well done video! Must say you sound like us here in South Africa 😂. How do they compare to the original pads from BMW, which is also Brembo I think? Did you order from the official website? Keep up the good work!
@LongWayHome
@LongWayHome 5 лет назад
I lived in SA for 15 years, so that's where the accent is from. The blue ones are fine for the back, but the red ones are horrible on the front. A lot less bite, so go for blue as well on the front. I got them from a local shop, but it's the same as ordering from brembo. Yes, the originals are also brembo pads.

Dealers never give these tasks to their qualified mechanic, but do charge you a qualified mechanic's rate, while a trainee does this, they reserve the qualified mechanic to do the valve adjustment or brake bleeds.
