Ha ha ha ..... he'll get clowned like Grinch or any other DC the USC brings in. Casuals just don't get it. From Hal Mumme to Mike Leach to Lincoln Riley....when you have an offense that averages 2 minutes per possession, the defense spends a lot of time out on the field.... GenZ/Millennials will take the obvious mistake and say "well just get a stop on third down and force punts" To which us seasoned fans will say "Okay but in 2 minutes your defense will be back out there and won't have caught their breath" Let me refresh you kids on history.....teams that beat offenses like this,.usually play ball control and clock to wear down your defense. When your offense is on then off the field so quick, your defenders not only have no recovery but there's no time to analyze and adjust on the sidelines. Go ahead and talk shit and proclaim "well Leonard or this guy can do it" To which I'll remind you that Grinch was DC in Pullman at WSU and shut USC down several times. No matter who you bring in, the personnel needs to be revamped.

If Yall want to keep it real, USC is not mathematically out of the PAC12 Championship game if they can win these last 2 games. Utah and Oregon st have 2Ls and they both have to play Washington. USC still has a lot to play for. If they win 2 games they are going to Vegas

No DC will succeed with Riley. His offenses score too quickly and defenses are gassed out by 3rd quarter. This is why lots of teams make a come back in the 2nd half and either beat or come close to beating Riley's teams.

If Bohn was still AD and Aranda were to get fired this year, I would have no doubt he would be the guy USC would go after since they almost got him in 2020. But with Jen being the AD, I have no idea who they want.

I really hate to tell you that your new defensive coordinator will just about as bad, you really have to look at Riley's background. He is just like Mike Leach God Rest His Soul, but like Leach he doesn't believe in an elite defense, he believes that if the defense can get one or two stops and his offense will out score the other team. Don't believe me look at Riley's past and Mike Leach's past.

Rileys past has only been him hiring 1 defensive coordinator, and that is Grinch. You can't compare both coaches' history of who they had as defensive coordinators because Leach coached way longer than Riley has. This idea that the next DC will just be as bad? Where are your sources on that? Do you have a crystal ball? If Riley gets Jim Leonard or Dave Aranda possibly, somehow that will be as bad as Grinch?

Not correct about Mike Leach. When he was at Texas Tech he had really good defenses. In fact, he had TT on the verge of becoming a national power, before being derailed by the BS scandal involving Craig James' sissy son. Also, when Leach was at Washington State, he was starting to build up a decent, balanced team on both sides of the ball - especially relative to the paltry talent that he was able to draw up there. He had not had enough time to get things on track at Miss State.

These guys still love Riley. He's not going anywhere, and will some reflexion and resolve to change his program he "could" be a good coach. He's a great developer of QB's and passing offense, but the Lincoln Riley of TODAY is a fatally flawed head coach. Bring in a quality DC and makes some other much needed staff changes, start recruiting SoCal much better, practice with intensity and physicality, and improve your strength & conditioning coach and program. It can change for the better, but it's also disappointing that in year 3 your 9-figure contract head coach hasn't figured it out.

I am tired of people bringing up Wilcox, Orgeron or Pendergast as the next DC. Some of you just have such a low hanging fruit when it comes to who should be the next DC. Everybody agrees that Riley bringing Grinch and retaining him was a bad idea. A double whammy. There is the constant narrative of Lincoln doesn't care about defense. Well seems to me that some of you fit that narrative perfectly. Some of you that bring up past defensive coaches who did not work out or is not fit to be a defensive coordinator, dont care about defense. You are setting yourself up for more disappointment. There is absolutely no correlation when thinking of the defenses Pete Carroll had to bringing back Clancy Pendergast, Justin Wilcox or Ed Orgeron as defensive coordinator. I am so glad some of you are not the AD or head coach because you would have to answer for why you hired one of those guys and then lose your job. Absolutely pathetic

When you look at the talent on defense... Its just not there. The personal is not there. You need great players. Our players on defense aren't good players. With the NIL era, we just need to call it what it is. Our players look lite in the ass as they say. Seems like they're prioritizing speed so much that there isn't much value in creating a balance of speed and power. At the point of contact it just looks like there's no power. Is that a philosophical issue, or a talent issue or both?

LR is NOT a great coach, he's a good offensive coordinator. USC's players are highly undisciplined and get a lot of penalties, the defense is horrible and the special teams are another weak point. To say LR is a great coach is crazy.

I’ll hit the like button when you guys keep it real and acknowledge Riley hasn’t earned the status of elite. You cant get beat at the highest level (the playoffs) when you play against the best coaches and teams, every time youve had the chance and be considered elite. You gotta beat the best to be the best. Just like Pete Carroll, Urban Meyer, Nick Saban, Dabo, Kirby Smart. Even Mark Helfrich and Sonny Dykes have won playoff games. When Riley earns it I’ll give him his due. As of now he can’t even win a Pac12 title. This isn’t the no defense Big12. And I’m done hearing about Grinch. Riley has been with the guy forever and knows his failures and elected to bring him and keep him on the staff. You are responsible for your hiring of people when you’re the manager/leader. Their failures are yours when you allow it to happen routinely. An elite coach knows when to make a change and intervene… they don’t WASTE Heisman winner after Heisman winner because of one guy on the staff that doesn’t do his job.

The removal of Alex Grinch is a first step. If Riley wants to truly be elite, there will need to be other changes that he will need to consider. Hopefully, Riley will become confortable with that life, otherwise he should never have accepted the job. Gott be a results oriented head coach and act rather than react. Head coaching is not for faint of heart. Not when you are getting $110M, plane use, bright lights, big city....He needs to understand that the barn door is now closed, but the horses ran out a year ago.....

I think Riley wants to have terrible defense. It allows him to keep passing in the second half against weak teams, which allows his QBs to put up huge numbers. He doesnt want to win, just wants to get his QBs big numbers

I’m not sure I agree. If LR wanted more possessions having a defense that created more 3 and outs is ideal. Run up that score, embrace being the villain. Play the backups and keep scoring
