My old trashcan Nokia has been a royal pain having to reboot it constantly but I had been getting 125-150Mbps speeds until about 4 months ago so I bacame a "problem child" and recieved the new G4AR gateway a few days ago. Im getting RSRP -84 RSRQ -6 and SiNR 16 using the new gateway and the proxicast 2x2 I got 2 years ago for the trashcan. I found that I get the best speeds using ports 1 & 3. Im currently getting about 65Mbps both up and down. Sometimes i get over 120 down but not often. After seeing the black Friday sale Im ordering the Waveform 4x4 MIMO antenna and really hoping for some improvement. BTW thanks for the waveform links.

I'm getting 450 mbps down, 233 mbps up using the G4AR with a " Good " Signal ( 3 bars ). You should be rocking it when you get the 4x4. Did you get it yet? How was the improvement (?), since you started using it, if you have it.

I did get it set up and my download was about 150 and upload increased to 50! Since then there was an update on my tower and my download speeds now hit 300 sometimes. 150-225 usually during the day thought. Upload seems consistent at 50. Gateway shows excellent at 5 bars so not sure why I don't get better speeds.

@@Grem135 It might take a bit. I have notice I get updates once a week for the first few months. I'm not sure but I think they are tweaking specific routers to help with connectivity. I do know they only allow a certain amount of 5g home users to a specific tower. I don't know the number. When I first set it up I got 150mbps/50 up. I was receiving an update daily for the first week. Then once a week for about a month or so after. Now it's randomly once a month I get an update. Slowly making my speeds more stable. Now I get almost exactly the same number when running my speeds test. 440mbps-460mbps down, 220mbps-250mbps up. You might try a quick call to them, they may be able to change some settings on your router to get it running faster.

@@philphil3386 have had a lot of signal drops lately and no internet at all for a few hours about 3 days ago. Turns out they were working on the tower I connect to. Once it came back on it seemed faster but still not stable. For the next 24 hours my gateway rebooted at least 5 times. The updates you mentioned? Yesterday was hitting 270-325 down but download only 30+35. Today it's been very stable . Only 1 stutter and no reboot. Speeds pretty much the same. I will check the aim on my waveform 4x4 antenna when I can. Looks like storms most of the week.

Peter, I have been watching you for a long time here. I recently got a T-Mobile Mi-Fi for when we travel in our camper, the connection to the cell towers are less than stellar )according to the app coverage, we are in a T-Mobile coverage area). What would you recommend for a cell booster. This Mi-Fi doesn't have a connector for an external antenna. Thanks a bunch. Love your videos.
@PeterC408
@PeterC408 11 дней назад
Thanks for the question. I am not a fan of cellphone boosters - They are themselves radios and can only repeat what they receive. These radios do not repeat the entire spectrum but only a small set of stations, I would much rather go with an external antenna. I have found two external modem products from a company in Brazil that are pretty great. Brazil is a mountainous country and they routinely pull signals from up to 20 miles away!! Earlier today, I drove out to a dead spot along the highway to test out their $199 4G modem/antenna. I will be posting that video tomorrow. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-trkwxC8j0nY.html They also make a 5G modem/antenna at $699, it is more expensive but literally the fastest modem I have ever tested. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SqJ5e8w8iio.html

Paul thanks for all the great videos. My question is I already have the T-Mobile gateway router the tall square black one with internal antennas. I heard that T-Mobile has 2 newer models with external antennas. I think the way I use my TM Gateway is in my RV traveling from state to state but something I get into places where the signal is very weak. Will the new TB gateways with external antennas be better for me? I went to a T-Mobile store a couple weeks ago and they told me they don not have the newer models. Are the newer models worth waiting on or should I just keep what I got?
@PeterC408
@PeterC408 8 месяцев назад
Lots of good topics here. First off, the T-Mobile gateway is not bad it just has internal antennas. Getting the signals outside is a HUGE help! The newer gateways have those ports outside but that is only going to save you 20minutes worth of work. You would still need to spend money on an antenna and cabling. Many of these antennas are highly directional which is not great for an RV that is constantly moving around. If that is the case, I would recommend looking at the Yeacomm NR610 modem that I have reviewed. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6uXWAI8bXBY.html It hold two SIM cards, so if TMHI was not working for you, you could easily switch to Verizon or AT&T. This device has places your Modem outside and picks up a huge number of bands... even will aggregate multiple 4GLTE signals. Note: you need an access point for inside. This acts as a modem only.

Hello Peter, I just subscribed to your channel and hope to learn enough about this to make a positive difference in what is a very bad experience so far. You cover a lot of issues very fast that I don't know about - I said I need to learn. My kids and I recently added TM 5G home internet to our phone plan here in Salem Oregon. I just ran a speed test at 4:25am and Download = 3.7Mbps,,, Up = 20.46Mbps,, Ping =45ms These are typical of the results even though at 1st install the download speeds were somewhat better - but not over 15Mbps. My bars have been at 4 of 5 since 1st install. In addition, load times of websites are very long and video streams buffer and fail and the unit seems to disconnect from my laptop. My kids who live on the opposite side of town are having the same issues with full 5 bars. Thank you in advance for any help. Best Regards, Jack

Jack, here is a video that will probably help you a lot. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4E7ogM9AVSY.html I have been very happy with the TMobile service, it has been very responsive and fast but... unlike a phone, the network treats Home Internet users as lower priority, meaning that they can slow you down to balance their network needs. So during the late evening you might get 15Mbps and during peak times you might get 4Mbps. Now a BETTER signal could flip that on its head and you could get 100Mbps! When we think better signal we think BARS but that is not the full story. It is all about RSRQ and SiNR scores too. Watch the video and let me know what you find.

Hey Peter - so I got my gateway setup today (it's the white one, btw). I'm getting good speeds so far. 600 down and 40 up. However, I have really bad RSRP (generally between -95 and -105). and SINR (generally between 5 and 10) on both LTE and 5G. Everything else measures good, and like I said, speeds are good. Just wondering if I should try to improve those values, or if I shouldn't be concerned in this case. I appreciate your feedback!

@PeterC408
@PeterC408 7 месяцев назад
Let's see... two big questions here. 1. Can you take TMHI with you? T-Mobile is trying to sell excess bandwidth in markets where excess bandwidth exists. In fact, once they have enough Home Internet customers in a given area, they close it. Some people have been successful taking their solutions on the road but often complain that it is slow. Here is how TM manages it - They have made Home Internet users lowest priority on the network. This means that if other people are trying to use their phones, they come first. This is also why some people claim that their service fluctuates from being very fast to very slow. They probably brought their unit somewhere it does not belong. 2. WeBoost Signals are not the right way to improve your signal. In general, these devices were designed to give you phone reception, not bandwidth. One of these products got the only Negative Review that I have ever given. Watch this video to see how deceptive these devices can be ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1wJhVV5hDK4.html Sure, I got more bars but with no measurable improvement!!!! GET AN ANTENNA - IT IS A MUCH BETTER SOLUTION. Better yet, look at this device, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MWqcj_P-JG0.html This is an outdoor modem with an omni-directional 4x4 MIMO antenna built in

So I have B2 as my primary and N41 as my secondary what would you recommend to max my signal out? Should I get an aftermarket router to change the bands? I normally get 150 down 30 up with a 2 band waveform external, at times I have seen 300 down so I know faster is possible
@PeterC408
@PeterC408 6 месяцев назад
It all matters what you signal is like. B2/n41 is a great start but what is your RSRP, SiNR and RSRQ? If those looking good and little improvement is possible, you may want to up your PRIORITY... you can get a business account with T-Mobile... same money... but you could also try changing bands. 5GSA could get your band N41 and N78 and you would be pulling 2.5Gbps when all is said and done!!!

getting SNR of 40, RSRQ of -12, but a RSRP of only -108. Right now my gateway is way up in my attic (4x4 waveform on roof), and I'm planning on extending with LMR-400 cable so I can bring the gateway into a better area. Are there amplifiers that will help prevent switching off of n41? I think i'm pretty close to the threshold (-110db RSRP iirc), so extending the antenna might push me past that.

@@PeterC408 overall things have been fine, but my router is on the other side of the house and in the attic so i'm mostly limited by the 2.4ghz wifi that I have to run in order to use it. That's why I want to move the gateway to a better location. With the gateway in the attic i've had to reboot it several times more frequently than when it was down below and my antenna was in the attic. But no n41 band with antenna in attic... One weird thing is it takes a looong time to connect to a website/domain. once connected, it's fine. It feels like a DNS thing, since all my machines do it, but i'm not sure. if i'm on 5ghz near the gateway, I can pull 450mbps which isn't too bad, but that initial connection is always slow no matter what

Do you have the ability to rotate the antenna or is its direction fixed? I really like the Waveform 4x4 MIMO KIT amzn.to/3s9i9SY but it is directional. 30 feet with a low loss cable is okay. You also should see this option. The G4AR is strong because it has external antenna inputs but it still only supports 5GNSA. 5GSA is going to be the future however the G4AR does support N78 which is pretty exciting. 5GSA will give you a better balance of upstream and downstream and should get you better PINGs as well.

Those seem like some pretty good scores so if it works for you and you don't need the ability to serve or port forward then you don't need to make any further changes. Now if you want the ability to run a security camera DVR or serve PLEX to friends and family then you do need to replace this gateway. Right now your modem even though you turn the Wi-Fi off is still doing NAT, which means you have a double net situation but that's not a big deal at all and in fact can make your network more secure.

I love a good project but dishes, just like antennas, are designed for certain frequencies. Not only are we hoping we can capture the right one but somehow reflect it towards a poorly made device and make it better. It reminds me of Gilligan's Island when the professor makes a radio out of coconuts. Her is a better solution and it is on Black Friday sale. amzn.to/3MYqjVB It is a better gateway that is placed outside with a proper 4x4 MIMO antenna inside. You can position it outside where the signals live and not only will it perform better but look a lot better too. Sure you might make your signal slightly better but this is the Internet and I am willing to invest a little to make my life more comfortable. A $400 investment, is less than $20/mo in less than 2 years. I have seen people use those dishes to focus the sun and cook hotdogs. I like that idea a lot better.

Not only does it have external antennas but gets many more 5G bands including the long anticipated, still rolling out, n77 @ 3.7GHz. I bet half the world would be willing to trade you. Just curious, why are you buying gateways over the internet when TMobile gives them for free. The TrashCan unit is pretty good but it only gets n71 and n41. The next unit gets n25 then n19 and only the last two give n77. That's going to be money but only for those who have an external outdoor antenna like this one. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lyI8qS_LhLA.html This one is super small and tested super well.

Is it possible to lock n41 for download and n71 for upload on Gl-inet MT3000 Splitz modem/router? Or do you know any other third party modem that can do such upload and download band locking?
@PeterC408
@PeterC408 8 месяцев назад
It is an interesting Idea but I have not seen any radio that will do that. Keep in mind that most of these radios are 5G NSA, meaning that your primary signal is 4G. What you want to do for upload is find a good 4G band to lock to. Some bands have much better uplinks than others. Personally, I have found that 5G SA (n41&n25) give me a good balance of up and down.

ok so $200 for an antenna? that's crazy, you can buy a router or use an old router connected to the port on this modem/router and set the other one on bridge an u are good to go. i though this antenna thing was to get a better signal from the provider or im confuse????? i don't have tmobile but im looking to switch if the speeds are good at my house. if you ask me if my first assertion was right, is that mobile need to add a port on the modem/router to add an external antenna to boots the signal u get from the network

T-Mobile is a wonderful service but let's just say that gateways are not their thing. The have farmed out the gateways to several companies and most of them are adequate for most users. That said, if you are not happy with the reception you are getting, you have two options: 1. Go Outside to get the signal (antenna) or 2. Live with what you get. For many people, the signal they are getting is good enough to replace their existing internet. If you want/need more, external antennas are great and I have used many. It is like a pair of glasses, it only helps if you need glasses.

@OOTheBlueAir I do not have a CPE pro 5. I think what happened is that to save tooling costs, many vendors will use a reference design for their plastic casing. The can literally put anything in there. Just because the outside looks the same says nothing about the internals. Sure the plastics of the CPE pro 5 look just like the Yeacomm NR330 but once another company ships it, it could be anything. Well made case, if I might add. Really challenging to take apart.

@PeterC408
@PeterC408 3 месяца назад
I have not seen this feature on any of the gateways that TMobile currently provides, but I have it on mine. If you have been following my channel, I am been turning off WiFi and using my own router. This can complicate things by creating a double NAT (not a big deal) but I have managed to conquer this as well. I am now running 3rd party gateways in bridge mode (so modem only). This enables me to user my NetGear Orbi Mesh gateway and pass through the IP address, eliminating double NAT. Of course we still have the changing IP cause by T-Mobile's use of CG-NAT, but I fixed that using DDNS and No-IP service. Now I get 700Mbps down 140Mbps and can finally serve my data like a real person. I am reviewing a new gateway that I am embargoed on... not available just yet but it is the fastest I have seen to date. Goes outside and built into a 4x4 MIMO antenna. Bridge Mode and 5G SA (real 5G, not 5G NSA like Tmobile send you). Subscribe so you don't miss that!

Great question but it kicks off a 1 hour conversation. See the signals that travel the furthest are the lower frequencies, like n71 @ 600MHz it goes far but is not full speed. Full Speed ends at like 300ft from the tower

I live in an area with outstanding T Mobile 5G speeds. BUT...a few thing prevent me from switching away from high priced Spectrum. 1. Unreliable connections, the 5G signal is often down altogether. 2. T Mobile's notoriously bad customer "support." 3. T Mobile's non-user-friendly modem. T Mobile must get its act together before I switch.
@PeterC408
@PeterC408 7 месяцев назад
I have had T-Mobile for 15 years and must say, that I have been happy with their service most of the time. It is exemplary, actually. As far as 5G signal... allow me to say, nobody does it better. In the USA, wireless frequencies are controlled by the FCC. You must bid and buy frequencies and this happened years ago. T-Mobile played this game masterfully. They bought low and mid band frequencies for coverage (big country) and planned on aggregating them together to get the speed back. It works!! No body reaches further or covers better. Verizon might light up a sports center with highspeed but you can't even walk to the restroom without loosing connection. They spent $54B on the wrong frequencies!!! T-Mobile spend $9B and is covering the US so much better. Saying you had T-Mobile as a phone provider was laughable 15 years ago, now it is respectable... soon, it will replace Verizon and AT&T. You can do with that what you want. Not sure why your connection goes down but I bet that is just a short term growing pain and not the reality. T-Mobile is also rolling out faster 3.7GHz bands that will give even faster speeds. I am expecting even more speed improvements to come, both up and down!

The problem that I have discovered is that you have no control if the gateway locks onto a LTE cell instead of 5G, perhaps due to signal strength. I went with the Invisagig and was able to drive my connection to a 5G tower that was slightly further away and my download speeds increased dramatically.
@PeterC408

The Gateways that T-Mobile sends you have very little user control over access point and modem features. Band Locking is a requirement for many of us. I have explored many 3rd party solutions that get better signal, allow pure 5G, Bridge Mode support and more. I am working with one right now that will blow you away. Every gateway supports the same bands. They all have 5G modems that support every 5G band T-Mobile uses or will use in the future. The Nokia has the Snapdragon X55 5G modem and supports every band T-Mobile uses for 5G, even Standalone 5G. T-Mobile just doesn’t want to utilize it artificially. The arc and sagemcom modems have the mediatek 5G modem that is essentially comparable to the x55. The tech specs don’t portray that because T-Mobile doesn’t update them when either new firmware allows formerly unsupported bands or they just put the bands they used at the time for Home Internet.
@PeterC408
@PeterC408 8 месяцев назад
Lol. Ummm, okay. That is not true. I was showing the progression as they came out. They totally support different bands and are made by different manufacturers. It is not T-Mobile that wants to utilize anything, it is Nokia, Arkadian and Sagemcom. How about the 5G SA? I can assure you that my Nokia does not support n25, n66 or n77.

So much better than, "doesn't play well with others". Do you know how many physics textbooks I've read that had complete lack of empathy towards the understanding of the reader? All of them. I think some of them were poorly written but I've never been so self-confident as to write the author and tell them so. Best of luck getting the world to cater to your needs, ramjet4025.
