Thanks, Peter. If you run short of frustrating projects, I'd certainly like to know how some VPN options compare. Like just using a software VPN versus using one of the paperback sized mini's that are just set up to be a router running OpenVPN or some other option.

I've already done it. When it comes to VPN services working on T-Mobile there is one clear winner and I think it is still on special ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kjvsVVHXzeA.html I have a GL-inet Beryl AX travel router and I run OVPN on it. Great option. amzn.to/3wXLF0y

Been checking out the channel for a while. I have tmo home internet and my speeds go from 300 to 100 down and about 10% of that up. This seems very tempting but will this improve my speeds and more importantly will it survive the 110 + degree weather we experience in the summer?

The need for the internet is ubiquitous but the challenges we face differ from place to place. It would be impossible to say that you should get T-Mobile over AT&T without knowing exactly where you live and what the towers are where you live. This modem however is going to be my favorite solution for you.

Hi Peter; Another great video, thanks. I am tempted to buy the Elsys AmpliMax Ultra except I don't know what cost/benefit I might realize. I have 2 external antennas with the T-Mobile trash can, and at one time had over 500 MB/s at night, most performance is about 150-250 down and almost always ~100 up (about 1/2 mile from tower). My network likely tops out at about 750MB/s. I like Elsys ability for locking the bands and being able to tweak tower direction via a tone. Years ago I did the FCC testing for one of the first dish receivers and trying to find the sat took at least an hour on a hot roof. The Tone Direction feature is a great add. I also like a power over LAN cable design would overcome the high coax signal loss. I love keeping up with technology and a I am a gear geek. Based on your usage and my present install, I would appreciate your opinion. Thanks

Hey Leo, the Trash-can can get some pretty good scores. What kind of scores are you currently getting for RSRP, RSRQ and SiNR? I am surprised that you are getting 100Mbps UpLink scores, it is pretty darn good. This radio gets better scores across the board form anything that I have seen. Even the Yeacomm sitting 30cm from my Elsys sees an improvement of 100Mbps both up and down. Let me know your current RSRP, RSRQ and SiNR scores and what bands you are currently getting (probably n41 and b66, I never got that kind of uplink with b2) we can see if there is room for improvement.
@LeoHeiland
@LeoHeiland 2 месяца назад
@@PeterC408 Hi Peter, I get LTE B2 at RSRP -74, RSRQ -14, SiNR 16.4;; 5G N41 RSRP -65, RSRQ -11, SiNR 32.
@PeterC408
@PeterC408 2 месяца назад
@@LeoHeiland Really nice 5G scores but the primary signal is the 4G (which is b2) and there is some room for improvement there. You have good power but the quality and noise (although good) could be better. I would be excited to see what this unit would yield at this location. The main reason for getting the Elsys is the bridge mode. Do you have an access point you would rather be using (like my NetGear Orbi)? That fixed the CG-NAT issues that kept me from using my Plex server. Now there is no problem. Also, you were limited to n41 or n71 with that unit. You might be able to get n25 or n77. This unit will get faster as 5G continues to rollout. You will be able to ditch that 4G LTE signal all together and grab two 5G bands.
@LeoHeiland

@@PeterC408 Thanks again, I will consider this later this year. I sent Elsys a question regarding operating max temperature. Here in Phoenix we get to 121F on occasion 115 every year, and the sun radiant energy can push it close to the 140F (60C) specification (glad to see it is a white unit). I assume 60C is what the unit was tested for and it might work at a higher temperature, as 60C for most electronic components is acceptable. Many companies use 60C ambient for qualification of designs. Standby: I might be selling 2 antennas and 2 runs of coax (grin). Thanks

Peter, the Elsys looks great but I am a part RVer and hate to pay for expensive hard and or mostly fees. We try and go camping every month or two so we only need something that will allow us to stream Netflix everyday for a week. We are a T-Mobile customer and have been using the T-Mobile Home Network Gateway in our RV and that has been great but like you said they will probably shut down the mobile use of their gateway. Our only alternative would be to switch back to using our "Hot Spot" on our phone and that doesn't last very long with 40gig limit. Do you have any other suggestions?

I would totally buy this device but unfortunately, I have a calyx mobile hotspot switch out the SIM card and put it in another device I also tore apart an older mobile hotspot that was extremely similar to the ones that I currently have, and I think going with a 4 x 4 external antenna is going to be very difficult. I need someone who knows how to micro solder

T-Mobile offers FAW (fixed area wireless) for both Home and Business Customers... but for Business they allow you to BYOD (bring your own device). This includes devices that do not report GPS location... does that mean that you can use it wherever you want???? No, but I have no idea how they could tell. Does that answer your question?

I'm deaf as a board when it comes to high pitched beeps and I would have the Elsys on a mast strapped to the ladder of my RV which I would prefer not to climb to aim the dish (I can turn it from ground level). Is there any way to see signal strength indication while turning the unit other than the beeping?

We've been using our TMHI Router on the road for over a year, but hearing they are cracking down on geo location somehow. Is this by IP, cell tower, or gps? If IP or tower location, how does your solution work reliability undetected and not get blocked by TM?
@PeterC408
@PeterC408 16 дней назад
If you ever watched a crime show they can always tell your location by which towers you ping to, so Yes they can tell your location quite easily. They don't even need to use the GPS located in your gateway. This solution is no different, it gets a better signal but it does not magically cloak your location it still communicates with the closest tower. T-Mobile has stated from the beginning that they want to sell additional bandwidth in markets where additional bandwidth exists. They don't want people putting taking them on the road and creating network traffic in areas where they are carefully trying to regulate quality of service. We all love RV'ers, but no ISP wants to enable a variable load to be moving around the country consuming great traffic from their network. I heard that they have come out with an offering for RV'ers but it cost more money. I can see both sides of this one.

@PeterC408
@PeterC408 Месяц назад
@@ChrisNormanTexas it depends on the SIM. If you have a T-Mobile for business SIM you simply plug it in and it will do all the settings for you. That's because T-Mobile for business allows BYOD. I've been looking for a solution for internet my mom can use to replace her satellite internet. Tmobile home internet not available for her, so I fear it's either starlink or shenanigans. I don't think she's in a good spot to maintain shenanigans unfortunately. Maybe I'll just use usps to back and fourth a travel router if she gets into trouble.

Sounds like you should leave a 2nd router there in case anything happens, then you can ship the other back and for reconfig if needed. It would be nice if you could allow this device to do a channel scan and see if there is anything worth picking up.

What's the big difference between the 40 and 50 dollar package?
@PeterC408
@PeterC408 2 месяца назад
Its a good question. T-Mobile is famous for promotions. They are constantly tweaking offers to attract folks on all their plans. It makes being a RU-vidr a bit difficult but... good offers can be found. I locked in a $40 price on my Home Internet service and that was unlimited. Now that $40 has a 1.2TB data cap, but it is still a solid deal. I heard that you can pay $50 and get unlimited still but... so many options are available on the Business side. I got a $50/mo business SIM and it works pretty well. It gets me on a different network from the other Home Internet Users, so that might be helping me out too. The business SIM allows for BYOD so there is James Bond tomfoolery, it just works and I know that it will never be shut off. If you don't have a plan, get the Business SIM from the beginning especially if you are going to run a 3rd party device like this. Tell them to keep their "Free" hardware because this is way better and I am totally free to cancel at any time.
@PeterC408

OK..this is kind of a weird deal. I don't think I'm stepping on any toes @wirelesshaven by posting this. For reference, I ordered last Monday, the 20th, and it has yet to ship. I spoke to Richard on Wednesday (the 29th), just to get an idea of when it may ship. He stated that Elsys, for whatever reason, did not actually send the units to them at WH. They will ship through the manufacturer's distributor out of Orlando. Richard stated that he was informed that they "should" ship within the next two days, but it's now Friday evening at 6pm, and it hasn't shipped. According to Richard, the distributor has all the mailing labels of the people who have ordered...but they haven't sent any out yet. It's a weird deal, and Richard didn't seem real happy about it (can't say I blame him), but it doesn't sound like there's anything he can do about it, either.
