You have fantastic and informative videos. Boggles the mind you don’t have more hits. Great life story. So different from the , “Hey guys, yo RU-vid …”, videos posted by people who don’t know much.
Hi Ted. There is some excellent advice in this video. 20 years ago when I was in my early 50s I started a career as a self-employed signwriter. Having been a school teacher I was happy to try and appear in front of the camera and did a number of videos on this niche subject. My client base expanded and my RU-vid channel grew to over 16,000 followers. I also did a few videos about starting up the business as an independent signwriter. I know there were better sign writers than me, but I know I was better than the person behind a bar or who owned the shop. That was all I needed to know. You use the word ‘reliable’ many times in this video and I totally agree. In fact, being virtuous, that is reliable, honest, consistent, is not only good for the soul it is also good business. I am now 70 years old and I’ve been retired for five years but any project I undertake still is guided by these principles. I really like your channel and now I must put a few days by and visit more of your videos. Thanks for the effort. Btw I am a bit of a gadget freak and in my later life I realise I have returned to the mentality of my childhood and every day seems to be full of play.
John! Best note ever. I’m turning 51 soon so I struggle with trying to earn a living with this RU-vid jazz and wondering if its worth the massive amount of work. When it resonates with people and creates a connection like this, wow. This is the currency right here. And I TOTALLY understand about becoming a gadget freak. Gadgets have gotten sooooo much more capable but also much easier to use, to use well,….and enjoy the creative process while using the tech. The gadgets don’t get in the way anymore. They just do their job. Of course I’m generalizing, but I think you smell what I’m cookin. John I’m excited you’re part of the channel. Is there any specific topics you would like see discussed in an upcoming episode?
@@TedNemeth Hi Ted, you're not an old man, maybe a tiny bit older, and your ton of experience from different careers definitely offered you wisdom and you went for it, taking control and directing your future. Your spiritual cup is full and I enjoy your teaching style.
Love this video and I started this year by making a commitment to doing a video per week on RU-vid. After I got licensed I was very sporadic with my videos and never found the time to fly. Now I make a consistent effort to fly, film with my GoPro or both. But there's always something in the "can" to edit for the next week. So I'm excited every week now for what I'm going to do next! Putting in place all the other steps you provide is what I need to focus on next!
Hello sir! I was just on your livestream and said hello. Super cool! Thank you for watching. Establishing tiny daily habits is the single greatest thing anyone can do to establish progress toward any goal. Baby steps. Sounds trite but its super valuable.
I passed my part 107 yesterday. I was overwhelmed with sectional charts. Please study your ass off. Its not as easy and people make it seem. Good luck to all of you and thank you Ted. Great video
Dude you should definitely turn this into a full-fledged master class in parts of each of the steps! This is something that I'm really interested on. I'm working on getting my RPA (remote piloted aircraft) license very soon.
Patrick! congrats on progressing your flying camera hobby / career. I plan on making a masterclass later this year. But it takes a solid like 3 to 4 months of working on it full time to make a true, valuable masterclass that I think is worth peoples time & money. I just can’t take the time off RU-vid right now. I’m still growing the channel and need to keep feeding the algorithm. He’s a hungry gal during the growth phase. But thank you for the kind words of support! Please let me know if you have any specific drone questions or topics you would like me to cover in an upcoming episode.
@@TedNemeth you are a god send, thanks for all the knowledge, im a sponge soaking it in. I am loving my first drone, mini 3. Also I'm very excited to try this as a side business/hobby until i get better and more skilled. Here in Canada I have my basic drone licence already, working on getting an advanced one once I get more established. Thanks again!
thank you so much for the kind supportive words! man I am so glad to hear my efforts are helpful. Please let me know if there’s any specific topic you would like me to cover in an upcoming episode.
"Find a mentor". Done, he's an interesting guy with a varied, international career progression. I believe he grew up on the east coast, NYC perhaps. Comes from a family of cinematographers. He's a natural teacher and seems to be a good guy, a good human. I too have an international career and will soon be retiring to SE Asia. I've not had the pleasure of meeting my mentor, but perhaps our paths will cross some day, maybe in some exotic, tropical corner of the world. 😉
Ted, you're already answering my questions, as well as providing inspiration, with each of your videos! Kup Krom Kup. Hope I have the chance to buy you a cold Singha one of these days!
Really refreshing advices. I am turning 50 in a couple of months, taking care of the whole family (older and younger generations) working on pushing the business (and staff members!) after 2 hard pandemic years and even more powerful 😀. Keep on goin’ ! Greetings from the old continent.
Karim! Wow thank you for sharing. It seems many of the friends/subscribers of the channel here are “middle age” like us and discovering drones relatively recently. Do you have a lot of experience with drones/cameras? Have you identified a niche for your videography?
@@TedNemeth it is not my main priority to find a lucrative niche actually. Golf resorts maybe as we have many of them in the rich Bavaria, Germany. They have poor contents on their website, social media channels…cause they do not need it yet.
OMG! your story is amazing and inspiring, Ted!!!I I wish I had become as enlightened as you are at your current age BUT, guess it's never too late to start!!! Not sure I could live out of a backpack but I can live vicariously through yours!!! keep up the excellent work! I'm SO happy you found my channel so now I can watch yours! Thanks!
Cameron thank you sir! And your latest video documenting the sunsets is simply stunning. That shot with the train along the coast is beautiful. I love that little follow you did.
Your tips are powerful. I believe if you have passion on your drone and editing you will keep want to improve yourself so that you can deliver best final product to your client and indirectly build better portfolio for yourself. Better portfolio will open more opportunities for yourself to get more clients. Of course also need to follow your 6 plan strictly 😄
Getting licensed is a big deal and sets you apart. It also will teach you how to not make the feds come after you. For travelling and filming in Europe, you might want to add an EASA A2 certificate to your FAA Part 107. Great great tips there, thanks once again for your work, Ted!
Hi Fabian. Thank you sir! And your latest video on the sand sculptures is very cool. It takes a special mindset to spend so much time on a temporary sculpture.
the exposure algorithm in the Mini 2 is really good. As long as you fly slow and in the mornings/late afternoon, a filter is not needed in most cases. Flying during the bright sunny mid day then a filter + auto exposure work well.
@@TedNemeth its in the Netherlands. Youve been riding for 30 years ? Man, then you know how it feels. Been riding for 7 years myself and can't live without.
Really inspiring words!! Your video is awesome Ted, this one will definitely ends in my saving list. I bought the composition book, can’t wait to get it (1month shipping 😢)
Hi Ted I learnt my photograph in the British Army (Easier to teach snipers to take photos, than for photographers to learn how to hide in plan sight) So my photos are Technically spot on, but artistically crap. Your videos are inspiring and lifting my game(Pun intended) no end. Thanks keep up the good work
This is amazing my flying filmmaker friend! I’m truly grateful. Please let me know if there’s any specific topic(s) you’d like to cover in an upcoming episode.
Hey Ted, just found you yesterday. Absolutely love your content and positive, easy going vibe. Wondering don't have a course I could take? Also, what editing software do you use?
Travis! Welcome aboard sir. I do not have any online courses. I will in the distant future. To create a truly valuable masterclass….can take up to a year to create. I just don’t have that time right now because I’m growing this channel and really loving it. My editing software of choice is LUMAFUSION. Absolutely love it. What are you using?
@@TedNemeth thanks bro! Was using dji's light cut as I'm a total newbie. Just bought Luna fusion and excited to get into it. Thanks for the recommendation. How about music app? Luts?
So I’m the retired Chef guy you recommended the ND 64. Can you possibly recommend a video editor that works with a IPad? Free is good and iMovie doesn’t work for me. I like your general approach and philosophy. I spent 5 years in Thailand. I have we see things the same. Global vision, it’s a really small planet.
Hey man. Your video is really interesting. I would like to do sometimes a little career with my drone. Hard with family and full time job. But I love flying. You are so right. Can you tell me more about the portfolio? An exemple and a good way to do that? I am also the same age of you and working with disable people. What is your main resolution for project and do you use 30ips? I do like your channel and impressed about you life. Take care and a big hello from Switzerland 🇨🇭🤩
amazing Jean! Thank you for your work with the disabled. Its super rewarding. And challenging at times! I shoot in 4k 24fps. But 30fps is fine too. I’m even considering trying some 30fps shoots. Just a bit sharper.
Hi Ted, im really enjoying your videos, ive bought a drone, or should i say a ( flying camera ). My drone arrives tomorrow, i have taken your recommendation and bought a DJI MINI 3 PRO , Again on your advice ive bought a small pack of ND filters, i will experiment with ND 16, 32 and 64 in auto exposure mode, we spend a lot of time in North Wales that has the stunning Snowdonia national park and some fabulous coastal scenery and beeches, especially on the isle of Angelsey. So i am really looking forward to using and learning to fly my new DJI Mini. My question is what software would you recommend for editing video. I have used Light Room Classic before for editing still pictures, but find it hard going. Im looking for some software that is abit easier going. Please Help. Thanks in advance. Phil from Altrincham England.
Phil! wow I am super excited for you. You have an outstanding camera there. Welcome aboard to our FLYING CAMERA CREW. I use LUMAFUSION to do all my editing. I absolutely love it.
@@TedNemeth Hi Ted, thanks for the reply, i will download LUMAFUSION and give it a go, my dji mini 3 has arrived, ive just got home form work and i am like a dog with a tin dick im that excited to give it a go, just charging uo the battery and downloading the app as we speak, should i do a you tube blog of how useless iam at flying it. LOL. thanks again Phil, keep up the great videos.
Amazing videos and drone tips. You said one of my plans and I was so happy when I heard it. I'm planning to talk to local real estate agents and I'll offer free drone house tours maybe for first 25-50 sellers. How much do drone pilot charge for a simple drone house tour like a 3,000 sqft house?
hey Neil! Congratulations on your new career. Success is yours. It just takes consistency over time. Prices for videography vary drastically from town to town so I couldn’t give you a range. The best advice is to see if you can work with a local video production company. Even if its only part time or even an unpaid internship. It’s priceless to learn from established professionals.
