😏 5 things you need to know about Rekluse Auto Clutch Before you BUY - Does it make you faster? YES! 

Wondering if OP or anyone has used a Rekluse on a street bike? Would it act like a slipper clutch when downshifting?

I’ve been riding dirt bikes only for 30 years and can use the clutch fairly well. I’m 70 yrs young and will be purchasing a Rekluse in the not to distant future. It should allow me to ride longer with less fatigue and make my riding experience even more enjoyable. For people just starting to ride I’d recommend getting proficient with a manual first and then maybe go auto. To me it’s like first driving a car with a manual stick shift, it’s fun at first to learn to shift but then gets kinda boring and tiring (especially on hills) and after a while you end up getting an automatic. Anyway, my 2 cents.

Love mine. Much better not getting the dreaded flame out on a big bore 4 stroke in slow tech conditions . Scream into corners and not stall. Ride longer without tiring. Has made the bike more usable in wider range of conditions. Yz450fx.

I think this is a fair an accurate argument... but I still like my Rekluse clutch. I'm 57 years old, and it really helps.

Recluse for first bike for a beginner rider? No. However, for wiley old vets like me, it makes riding long woods races much more enjoyable, especially on 4 strokes.

I agree with you on all points. I have faced everyone you spoke about. Due to a broken hand while racing years ago which now has arthritis. The only way I can ride is with a Recluse.

I raced the national Enduro series and they were selling these clutches at one of the races So I purchased one and they installed it right there so I put it in and I rode that whole race for the first time with that clutch and I kicked butt. So the learning curve for me was zero. But no disrespect to the man in the video but in my opinion they are a wonderful item. And the dirtbike lifestyle was never was one of saving money it was a hobby that help me justify me going to work to pay for.

Dylan Fernandis gets many holeshots in ama 250 motocross races.with an auto clutch...you can dump the clutch! mashed hands make rekluse mandatory. It has taken me a year to get as good with the rekluse as with the normal clutch...mainly to realize you still need to use the manual clutch for log hops and low traction situation...just ride and have fun

You said not many pros using it but Yamaha Star Racing uses it for supercross and out doors. Most of their team uses it in competition and they have won both supercross and outdoors with it. I think it is like most things, personal preference and comfort.

Am considering one of for my 2006 Yamaha Stratoliner. What I don’t understand is after installing a Rekluse automatic clutch is when will you need to apply the clutch while riding ?

I have automatic , and i agree with you.

My Rekluse Core 3.0 engages engine break down a hill, i have to throttle it sometimes to remind the gears to engage and then the engine brakes same as a manual. Problem with a Rekluse i have found is up hills when you lose momentum and can't slip the bike in gear and stop it from rolling back. On some super steep hills even if you are on the rear and front brake, the bike will roll back. Nothing like an engaged 1st gear to stop you on that hill. You make fair arguments there and at 50+ years i am still torn between keeping my Rekluse or going back to manual. It's all good as long as you keep riding safely.

THANKS for this video! i was really thinking about an auto clutch. but always with a subtle bad gut feeling. now i dropped this idea and your video was the kicker. all my bad gut feelings turned into conviction. i'm quite good at clutch feathering and always found it to be fun and rewarding. clutch popping is so much fun as well. same with engine breaking. it's super important for me in terms of safety and i use it a lot. lastly, when a hill climb goes wrong, i know that i have the stall engine feature to get into a safe spot to recover and rethinking the situation without having to care about anything e.g. the rear brake engagement with my right foot. what if i'm not able to reach it cause i ended up in an awkward body position? the dual lever solution sounds completely ridiculous to me. once again, THANKS for destroying my auto clutch idea, which i always knew inside myself that it is a bad idea for me. ✌

Been riding /racing bikes all my life. Just now getting back into endro racing with a 2023 Husqvarna TE300. About to put a Rekluse auto clutch in it. No shame. I know how to work clutches. I have a old wrist injury with a few surgeries on it that makes my hand go numb. Anything to help me compete 👍. I've never ran an auto clutch before though, about to spend a grand+ on one 😑. I've heard they're great, especially with the $400+ left hand brake option... I thought I left roadracing to save money....

I have a recluse but i ride it like a manual. Occasionally I'll notice the lack of engine breaking on a steep downhill but that's what brakes are for. I bought a used yx450fx with a recluse on it. I didn't think I'd like it but now i love it.. there's no difference really if you want to use the clutch manually, but the recluse comes in handy on the really gnarly stuff and helps prevent a stall.. comes in handy for me at age 54..

I agree with you on this, the only exception is that they're mandatory on the KTM 350's, because those things stall 10 times more than the average bike.

My rekluse clutch engages on the downhill np and my manual clutch lever still works like stock. And I now have a extra stock clutch now if my rekluse goes out. Regular oil changes and I have 5,800 miles with no issues yet, not even a adjustment. I'm a advanced rider I dont know how I lived without it, gamechanger! Not sure what u did wrong to yours

I would start with a hydraulic clutch. It makes a huge difference. If you're a seasoned rider, maybe a little older, or a pro racer, it makes sense. Big 4t bikes can flame out alot if they're not dialed. 2t bikes don't because they pop every other stroke.

Love my cx radius on the 2020 husky te300i. Also got the husqvarna left hand rear brake kit which makes the clutchlever your rear brake. And just a note this video is lacking in info as the cx radius are so tunable with the different spring tensions that come with the kit, enabling you to adjust the aggressiveness. They are not harder to maintain than a standard clutch, the maintenance time frame is about 20hours which is inline with standard clutches, the only extra thing you need to do is check the free play gain before every ride which takes a minute. Well worth it in my opinion. Most the the people ive met that hate on auto clutches just can't afford one. If they are set up correctly for your type of riding and riding style you won't need the clutch kit and also there shouldn't be a delay in throttle response time as they are supposed to be set to have a slight drag. Anyway each to there own 🤙🤙

Some good points in this one, but for me, I don't throw chunks of money on expensive extras like a Rekluse unless it is an all around game changer. I love when I got my KTM because of the nice hydraulic clutch. My Yamaha had a cable and it's a game-changer having the low effort on a hydraulic system. I suppose left-handed wankers, get lots more wanking with a Rekluse, but only a little more with hydraulic system :D

I'm confused I have radiusX on my trx450 and still have engine breaking, and can use it manually which is what I do. Just like it cause helps with xc racing and possibly stalling. Just pretend it a normal clutch.

Have thought about an auto clutch since my left leg is prosthetic and it would help me out. I run a heel toe shift due to my prosthetic limb. I have no problems with my set up so the auto clutch is just a thought.

Manual clutches is good for me automatic clutch I’ve try it did not like it . It didn’t feel right but that’s just me iam sure it work for other rider

Its okay, I have it in my KTM 300. I don't think I would purchase it again. I have two other bikes and I like the manual clutch more, just for having the option of variety. Rarely do you see someone like Graham Jarvis using it. By the way, did you go to Romanics this year?

I was having problems with my left hand ,and someone recommended a Rekluse ,but I don't think I could ever get used to it.

On long weekend rides. I’m good to go all 3 day instead burnt out 1st day. I’ve been riding along time with and without. I prefer rekluse clutch it’s pulls harder due to more traction control hands down. not just good conditions but worst conditions. I can still use clutch when necessary . I also have in my harley. For me it’s my go to on every bike.

I have a 2015 crf450 that I use for mainly woods and some Mx tracks the clutch is hard as hell to pull resulting in alot of stalls in tight sections in the woods. I think the auto clutch may be ideal for me

I purchased a used bike with one and i havent uaed it much so far but as of now i rather have a regular clutch by far. I just feel like i dont have as much control over the bike ..

I feel like this is a little bias. I've been riding for 15 years and I don't feel that I will become a bad rider by getting a rekluse clutch. Some people like me have wrist issues, and this can aid with that. You still have the choice to use it in rough terrain when you want.

I completely agree i won't buy one for one there not worth the money way to expensive and i love the manual clutch thats the hole purpose of riding a dirt bike

This dude has the idea of the auto clutch all wrong he’s making it sound like you can never switch back to a manual clutch after you ride an auto clutch My buddy rides multiple bikes half of them have rekluse auto clutches and the other half have manual clutches and he’s just fine and actually prefers the auto clutch in race situations (hare scrambles) and also you had the clutches mixed up at the start of the vid the radius cx is a auto clutch not a manual

You should do a review on Quickshifters for dirt bikes you know like they have on Road bikes i think the fans would like to see something like that but it only works on EFI engines (TRANSLOGIC QUICKSHIFTER)

No first riders are buying Rekluse clutches because they don't have good clutch skills. This video was ridiculous. I have many different motorcycles, have been riding for 42 years and my Rekluse on my KTM 350excf in no way makes me a worse rider. In tight technical single track, it allows me to focus on my line, and bike bike control without constantly having to feather the clutch. As a result the ride is so much more enjoyable with way less fatigue. There definitely is a learning curve but after a couple of rides it becomes second nature. And then when I get back onto another bike that doesn't have it, its not big deal since that's the way I have been doing it forever. I have the left hand rear brake setup as well which solves the engine braking issue (if you want to call it an issue). all you have to do is the clutch engages is blip the throttle and voila, now you have engine braking. Having a rear hand brake allows me to have so much more control going down steep hills since I can keep both feet on the pegs. or if I need to remove my right foot, I can still brake. 2 stroke guys with normal clutches don't have engine braking either and they don't complain. As far as bump starting? Thats why I have electric start. Another non issue. The positives of a recluse far outweigh the potential negatives. It will be on every dirt bike I own from here on out. I never usually comment on videos like this but there was just so much bad information in it and a terrible perspective on a great product.

I haven’t tried one but I can chime in a bit. Electric dirt bikes are so easy to ride because you just twist the throttle and go. No gears. No clutch. It’s intuitive. But once you have used a clutch and then go back to an electric dirt bike, you’ll find yourself wishing you could clutch it up over stuff. And the rekluse still allows that. I really don’t see many downsides to these other than cost.

You don't lose engine braking if the Rekluse is set up properly and you learn how to use it. I've been using a Rekluse Core EXP3.0 for over for 4 years (160 hours) in my RMZ250, used for Hare Scramble and Motocross. I don't see much benefit to using one just for trail riding though, but that's just my opinion.

Put a Rekluse on my Xtrainer a few months into riding. Definitely made me faster, but now in my 4th year riding I’m doing more technical riding and the Rekluse sucks. If you stall on a steep rocky hill it rolls backwards. Going back to stock clutch.

Rekluse ups your game. Period.

Interesting topic, kind of feel like your giving it in the perspective of someone who is learning to ride or at most a beginner rider. Also probably with the assumption of someone riding a bike that has Estart and/or a 2 stroke. Let me pose a different situation. I happen to have a pretty nice 2005 CRF450R (no estart, very tall first gear, easy to stall, etc). Let’s pretend that being a few years older than you, I’d like to spend more time riding trails instead of track, but I don’t want to dump $10-11k into a new CRF450L that is much much heavier (250 4t isn’t enough power for me, after riding 250 2t and 450 4t the majority of my life) and not going to add a ton to what I have and be a POS when I actually do want to ride the track. Ideally, if I wanted to dump a bunch of money, a 300 2t euro bike would probably be best trail bike. But let’s go with the budget proposal. Throw a Fan kit, and a Rekluse on my 450 and go have fun on the trails. See, many of us already know how to use a clutch (cool thing about the Rekluse, it lets you use the clutch if that’s what you want to do, which I often do). The huge advantages for trail riding: 1) doesn’t stall!!! Being on a hill or technical section and stalling a 4t is easy and it takes away your momentum. 2) doesn’t stall!! Yep, there is another advantage to not stalling on an older 450, since we don’t have an estart button, we have to kick it. This can be a huge pain in butt when on a hill AND the bike is hot (harder to start). 3. Gearing: this helps to solve the Tall gearing (esp in 1st gear) on MX 450 bikes for the trails. 4. Traction: because the engagement is slightly more gradual (or easier), in theory, less wheel spin. Having riding normal clutches my whole life and doing my first ride with Rekluse last week, I am sold!!! Yes, I wouldn’t recommend it for younger riders or beginners, because they need to learn to ride with a clutch, it’s part of learning your craft and what happens if you have to ride a buddies bike out from a trail and he doesn’t have a Rekluse, it’s just better to know how to ride with a clutch (as well as a kick starter). Cons: 1) there isn’t that ability to hold the bike in place on a hill, by holding it in gear (the left hand brake mod is something I am thinking about). 2). Cost. They aren’t cheap (but for my specific situation, it was a much cheaper solution). As far as the engine breaking is concerned, this is a partial truth. If you are staying out if really low RPM, it still engine breaks. In fact, this is one thing that I was surprised felt more normal than I thought it would. Plus, most 2t have very little engine breaking anyway (I hate engine breaking at the track). Overall, I love Rekluse.

yz250x has a cable pull clutch. rekluse is for me.

People would be surprised on how many big name pro Moto or other Disciplines of off road use these to there advantage. BUT, and thats a big but, you have to know how to tune them properly. Some say, I don't like the free roll, Down shift then there is engine braking if properly tuned. Others that they dont like the roll back on a hill if something happens. Grab the brakes. Its not a solve all, its something to help you. Others say it robs power, hate to tell you, I've tuned on a lot of recluse clutches and I have also dyno tested them, if properly tuned they don't do no such thing. I can't tell what gear I'm in, I've heard them all before. Everyone to there own, like them or not, if they ARE PROPERLY TUNED THEY WILL MAKE YOU BETTER AND YOU WILL HAVE NOTHING NEGATIVE TO SAY

I have one for a 07 wr 450 f for sale.. for me the biggets downside was no engine braking downhill, or at least none until you poofed the throttle and we're going 15mph......... i prefer the normal engine braking keeping me no faster than 10mph downhill, downhill for me was the dealbreaker

Tou can have a rekluse and still be able to operate the clutch so you can practice. Auto is the future

I'm an experienced rider but sometimes I ride a bike with a recluse auto clutch and on really technical trails I like it but going down steep hills I don't like not having engine braking with it.

Hey VegasRomaniac - always enjoy your content. I’ve been riding 45 years and def know how to use a clutch, but I’ll never have another dirtbike without one. All of your cons- are what I see as positives. IMHO saying a rekluse makes a rider less skilled is like saying we should all still ride 70’s bikes with carburetors.

But you still have the clutch so do you get the best of both worlds?? 🤷🏻‍♂️

Just bought a 2016 kx450f it has a rekluse clutch I’m still trying to get used to it I’ve always ridden with a regular clutch. It’s definitely different but it’s not bad it’s just a weird feeling when you downshift and you don’t hear the bike rev up and you don’t feel yourself slowing down.

Why no one is talking about down shift with rekluses clutch, is this a secret until you have to buy one?

What's your opinion on electric dirt bikes. Eventually this is what's gonna replace our gas bikes. They don't have a clutch, but I guess that they have so much torque that if you have it at the highest discharge power, one blip of the throttle can lift that front tire without an issue. Also I guess that with an electric dirt bike you can go as slow as you want without stalling.

I have a new YZ450F (I love it), and I just bought the Rekluse CX. I'm too old for this manual $%*t. If you want a real motocross experience, then get a two-stroke. I think future motorcycles will be equipped standard with automatic clutches (just like cars). And, then it will all probably be electric. It's called progress.... I'm ready for a debate here.

If a new rider learns auto clutch they will only ever be able to ride 0.0001 percent of the bikes. How do you test ride a bike you're thinking of buying for instance?

I had a rekluse in 2 bikes, i felt like i was always riding in the wrong gear couldnt get use to it and sold them.

in my opinion and my opinion alone... i cannot justify spending $600-$800+ on a recluse clutch at all period.

I hopped on a KTM with the auto clutch. A hill was too steep. The bike rolled backwards. Never again.

A Rekluse auto clutch is a tool, not a crutch and should not be blanked by the statements in this video as it misses the bigger picture. RadiusCX is an auto clutch. The manual options from Rekluse are Core Manual and Core Manual TorqDrive so that information is incorrect.

I’m not quite sure that all of this information is really correct, the recluse clutch is not automatic, you still have to shift, you just don’t need to pull in the clutch, but you’re still shifting gears and you do get engine brake when you downshift, I think the clutch is excellent for older experienced riders who have arthritis or carpal tunnel or perhaps anyone who has a week left hand

Most of my friends are decent casual riders, riding for over 30+ years of there life. I've biked for like 5 years. If this video were true, They would be better and faster than me on a Rekluse cause they leaned "how to use a clutch". But I'm faster in the tight technical and the same speed when it opens up. The only people that need to use and learn the advanced clutch skills he's talking about are pro level riders. And if you wanted to do that type of riding, you could still use the clutch feature with a Rekluse. Point is. 98% of riders never learn the technics he's talking about anyways. So the Rekluse just makes you faster, more capable, and less fatigued. This idea that you are never gonna learn invaluable clutch skills is pure BS. cause only 2% of riders ever learn that any ways. And the Rekluse doesn't prevent you from doing that anyways.
