Today I am sharing my {embarrassing} disaster basement and I am clearing out & decluttering the entire unfinished basement so that Kyle can finish working on it and we can get it completed!! I love the canvas with the boys! I have a canvas like that as well with my two oldest girls. What we did was recreate the photo with the baby included of course, and added that canvas to our “canvas wall”.

Yes! I have a box of cords that probably haven't been touched in 8+ years but the minute I mention getting rid of them, my husband has a million uses for them🤦🏻‍♀️

Monique A. Lol! 😆 After having that discussion with my husband countless times, I slowly started getting rid of 2-3 of those cords at a time and he never noticed. I finally confessed to him about it and he realized that he was never going to use them or anything so he finally went through it and kept the bare minimum of what he thought he would use and got rid of the rest. Lol.

Wow you did a great job! I always keep old photos, even though it might be missing some kids because that was still a stage in your life and your kids look so cute. I love to just watch a cleaning video in full then I get up and clean. I wish I lived close to you so I could help take some of that stuff off your hands! Watching all the RU-vidrs with the cleaning and decluttering videos has really motivated me. I have been doing some deep cleaning in my house which has included our garage. We’ve been in our home 3 years and never fully unpacked. It was such a great feeling to take those 3-5 hours to clean the garage a few weeks ago. I watch videos for entertainment but later in the week or on the weekends I then get busy cleaning!!!

Woohoo! That was a lot of work💪. Awesome job!! It makes me feel better to see others have a basement like ours 😄. It's a catchall in our home. I need to get some of those bins you have to get organized. Your homes previous owners left you carpet remnants and ours left us a lot of dried paint and really old pop and beer cans 😂. We have a spot in every house we have lived in (14 moves during our 11 years of marriage) that we have a "gallery wall" with all of our old photos displayed. Our garage and hallway storage needs some love. I love you idea of the clear storage bins because I'm always digging through them all trying to figure out where this or that is. Thank you for the motivation!

Loved watching this! So real! I totally agree on the perspective that keeping things you don't need (thinking you'll use it someday) is so mentally draining and we don't even realize it. I usually watch when I’m not able to clean, so it’s kind of like a pre-funk cleaning for me. And when I can’t clean it’s either because I’m at work ( I work nights) or it’s still too early or late ( I live in an apartment) So watching gives me the mindset even I’m tired to power through my chores when I get off work because I do find peace of having a clean place.

Your hair looks amazing, Amanda! And when I don't want to get rid of something for sentimentality reasons, but have no use for it, I just take a picture of it with my phone and then toss it :) That way, you can keep the memory but not the clutter :)

Lara Rectenwald I agree with you. I was decluttering attic items and had so many sentimental items from my daughters childhood. I know I have pictures of some of the outfits they wore, toys they played with and books. I sold a bunch of items, made some money and was finally at peace with parting with much of what I had, finally.....my youngest is 20 so it was really time to say goodbye to it and you know, I really felt so much relief when it was done.

The boy's photo: Make a family gallery wall, along the stairwell, or even in a wall in the basement (when finished). A great way to showcase your memories, without it being a prominent focal point in the home. I couldn't part with my babie's photos either. Tons of gallery ideas on Pinterest. Looks great... all the hard work is paying off! 😁

We had a leak in the garage and so much is soaked and ruined and everything has to be cleared out and I was so overwhelmed I started crying just trying to imagine myself doing it alone. I will normally watch these in the morning or afternoon while eating breakfast or lunch. If it's motivation I need through out the day. I'll sit down for a min, watch some and then when I feel bad for sitting around the house. I'll pause the vid, go clean and then come back to the vid.

Holy Cow!!! Awesome Job! My whole basement is like this. We have a small house and in the basement is our bedroom, laundry, office, pantry, pool table, two motorcycles, gun room and furnace. Right now it feels like I just have a pathway.... This is definitely some awesome motivation and since my grand son will be crawling soon I hope (he's a preemie and at 5 months is only 9 1/2 lbs... ) I need to get my house cleaned out. You inspired me. I have been going to make a framed lace hanger for my wire earrings DONE!!! Organized my jewelry box & pitched some really old pieces of jewelry DONE!!! I am working on my beads & findings in my jewelry making stash...completed 5 cases, a few more to go.....went thru my bedside table drawer & cleaned it up & pitched junk....Done It doesn't sound like much but it was stuff that I've been putting off. We have a garage room that we are getting ready to take down. Now that our kids are grown it is time to turn our garage back into a regular garage. The room was being used for some storage etc but used to be used for our middle daughter for her bedroom but now that she has graduated from college and on her own, I had a big garage sale and got rid of lots of very old items I was holding on to including some old toys, baby blankets and children’s books. I felt so good about my progress last weekend and we made some extra money. You are right though, it was taking the first step in getting rid of all of those unnecessary items. We don’t have a basement so garage, shed and attic are our storage areas. Thanks for sharing all of your clutter, it is motivating me to finish my project as well. It is just so difficult to let go of some of those items you have an emotional attachment to such as baby and children’s items, but I finally did it. I think that the Marie Kondos method has really helped me say goodbye to some things. Great video!

Tons of cords !! Active Duty Army Family here... if your ever PCS'd holy crap they throw it all together and 8 moves I gave up left them in a box or boxes. All your pictures take the portraits off the frame and roll or put them on long flatter bins put your boy's names on and each boy can have them. They get passed down to family and that is precious to many of us.🤗🥰🌻

i love watching these videos when i just take a break from everything while my baby naps. it gives me motivation to clean but really it just almost gives me the same satisfaction as actually cleaning. haha makes me feel more productive when i’m not being productive and enjoying a much needed break!

Wow, nice basement. I used to have a basement in my old place and all my stuff was shoved there. Now my current place doesn’t have one and I’m forced to declutter, which is not a bad thing. Another good thing about it too, not dealing with my ex’s stuff as well. I do love your videos too, they help me to get the motivational energy to face my clutter

Loved this! My parents basement looks like this, there are piles of things that were not touched for decades.. But when I mention it, it's just a matter of organizing, not too much stuff. And it's never gets organized, so it's driving me crazy :D

*Amanda, I just had a thought! Those rectangular wicker baskets could've been used in your closet where you had placed the blue and white plastic baskets They would look pretty cute there or even in your pantry! :-) Your basement would be an excellent space to create a craft/holiday storage room. Build slim shelving above, have a counter top space with bottom cabinets where you can store craft supplies, holiday and seasonal decor. On the opposite end you can build a workshop for Kyle where he can keep his home building tools/materials and paints. This will free up space in the garage for him to keep his car repair/maintenance tools.*

Wooohooo. Okay, even though this video is almost a year old, but THIS was exactly what I needed. I hope to really continue in my mothers home after I am done with mine here (she lives next to me), but there is the bigger mess. So this comes in the perfect moment. Even in my own home, after decluttering, I have the feeling to still have too much items around. But from now on I will look through that every few months, to avoid letting my home get out of control again.

Oh my goodness! I can relate to all the work you did. My sister, son & I just went through my mother's house (she passed last year) and it was over 50 years worth of items. It felt never ending! Our bodies felt like a train wreck every night for 9 long days! There were a total of 9 people's belongings in the house & attic! Yikes! We filled 2 gigantic dumpsters to the brim! 😦

It is the biggest mess of my house and it's the biggest catch all spot. It's so very overwhelming and it's hard for me to tackle it. I have been slowly tackling it but it isn't anywhere where I want it to be. But now seeing you do yours gives me way more encouragement to try my hardest to get it done no matter how long it takes me. Even bit by bit. But I'm going to try my best, because I can see that you did it so if you can than I can. So thank you so very much for sharing something like this. I think I would win for the most cluttered basement. We moved into my father in laws house and pay him rent. However, he has over 40 years of stuff in basement. You should’ve seen the entire house when we moved in. I wish I would’ve taken before pics of the other floors. It’s starting to be live-able but the basement needs a lot done. We’ve been working little bits at a time and it’s been the biggest project of my life. I wish I had the energy to get it done faster but multiple sclerosis likes to pick on me sometimes and the fatigue is out of this world. Hopefully the Burns Family can get it finally done over the summer. Our house looked like a show on hoarders. We’ve worked so hard on managing the main floor and upstairs. Now watching your video can help kick me in gear. Nice job girl! 😀

Ahh we don’t have a basement but we have a 2 story building in our back yard. I really need to get in the top and declutter and organize it. Thank you so much for the motivation to just get out there and do it. It’s going to be a big project so I definitely need to pick a day to just focus on it.

For the old canvas, you might be able to get it covered, I dont know because it's so dark if they would be able to do another picture but they could cover it with a piece of artwork.

I watch cleaning videos for ideas! To watch other peoples' processes, to see where they are storing things, how they pick apart a cleaning job, what products they use. It is always interesting how other people attack the same problems I have....sometimes I learn a trick or two and sometimes I just shake my head and wonder "who raised this person!!!" The motivation is surely real but its secondary to gathering hacks... unless I see someone solve a problem I have been struggling with and all of a sudden that's all I want to do.

Wow, seeing you tackle that basement gave me just the push I needed to organize and clean out my loft. No basements here in San Antonio, TX but our lofts do tend to collect everything!
