The Thar is back for it’s second innings. And boy does it look like it’s come well-prepared. Under the hood - for the first time ever - is a petrol engine. There’s a 6-speed automatic on offer too. And if you’re a bit old school, you still have the option of a diesel, and a manual transmission. 4x4 is offered as standard.
Mahindra has tried to make the Thar a bit more 21st century with additions like a touchscreen infotainment system, a digital driver’s display, a 6-speaker sound system, steering-mounted audio and call controls as well as cruise control. If this sounds unimportant to you, maybe numbers like 226mm of ground clearance, 650mm of water wading capacity, and 41.8° approach, 27° rampover, and 36.8° departure angle make more sense.

Kartikeya Singhee thank you. Hope you are safe too. I have a small doubt. I’m seriously considering selling my EcoSport for the Thar automatic. You mentioned in your review that the hard top is fixed. But in the pictures it has a separate front and rear panel. Can it not be taken off like in the wrangler. Maybe not as easily as the convertible soft top but maybe after loosening a few screws which takes 10 mins or so? The wrangler has that option right? Since this will be a daily driver I prefer the quietness and added security of the hard top but if it totally cannot be removed I will have to go for the convertible soft top which might be opened less than 1% of the time.

Right on. Cheap LEDs suck. Maybe they would be good on a Mercedes or Audi or BMW. Halogens are much more practical for relatively cheaper vehicles.

I agree, if u put custom seats in the older thar then u can cleverly use the bump and put narrow seats on either side making the seating more usable. Kids can literally sleep on those seats. Now we are quite restricted.

Manvendra Singh The new model launched last year - Wrangler JL. The old model - Wrangler JK was available for a few years before that. Jeep entered India with the Wrangler JK, Grand Cherokee and Compass.

I understand it is a Jeep but One thing why it can't have these: 1) Fule lid open lever 2) Open close and control ORVM 3) Rear amd front parking camera with sensors 4) Tyre pressure monitoring system. # Also we have to wait and see how reliable will the rear Glass will with hold the rain water getting in after years.

Need some clarifications on the patent dispute between Mahindra's & FCA, both have the rights to produce the willys based suvs. but why is that only in the us Mahindra faced charges from Trade commissions. Also this new version of Thar is amazing! but i see almost 70% of reminiscence & resemblance from rubicon; why has there is no talks on having a 4 door variant of Thar, it has never been before too...... please make a video on these

If the mirror controls are on the door then why the switches for the door glass on the middle. Not making any sense. If u need to remove the door then disconnect the harness. Then what is big difference adding door glass control on the door

Back seats are unpractical, I mean thar was never for practical people but still they could've gone for two column of seats like we use to have in old jeeps and gypsy instead of one row in back which is really hard to access....Edit: In short base variant has more practical seats

Thanks for covering most expected aspects. Show us the under body & finish of hardtop inside... driver cabin hardtop portion already looks a bit ill fitted from outside. Looks like it can be opened but may be not as you said. Wish they had matched the fuel lid too. Overall looks good and hope they price it right. This should have been the first gen Thar at that price to begin with.

@@prathamsalvi4943 Lol, Mahindra licensed the production of Willy's Jeep in 1953 for India. So they will always be stuck with the 1943 Jeep design ( which became iconic because of WW2 ). They were sued by Jeep® in US and lost( Roxor). They can never make copies of modern Jeep design legally.

No they dont have now they just had it for cj 7 in 1947 after ww2 because mahindra was a steel factory that time so jeep overland ordered them to produce ..which was earlier used in korean war and vietnam war ..mahindra roxor is also got banned in usa and they have copied everything from jl wrangler ..

You're an idiot if you think crossover market is going to get affected by this thar. Yes it is a much improved interior but the whole dynamics is still the same. Inefficient. Uncomfortable. Bad gearbox. Massive body roll. Wobbly drive. Dead steering. But yes, I would buy it if I can but just for some off-road fun with a little bit of urban driving maybe. This review was hilariously biased.

@@kreghunathnamboothiri853 4 wheel drive is not necessary for urban driving. More than 90% of crossover/SUV buyers never go off-roading. Most people buy SUVs for a family car for it's bigger stance. I'm not saying new Thar will be a flop but assuming this will eat out the most competitive C SUV-segment is just stupidity.
