Just a small suggestion, you might want to remove the outside frame with honey and no bees before installing the nuc frames. That way you minimize crushing bees with your last frame. You're doing a great job, we love your videos. Thanks!😊🐝

I would install the frames in the same order, in most cases.

I'd probably at a minimum wear a veil or goggles to protect your eyes! I have heard stories about people going blind being stung in the eye! Thanks for the video!!

Really enjoy these videos and y'alls commentary. I got a package and took off on my beekeeping right after eclipse. Mostly thought i don't bounce around but bees can make for some way ups and downs. i'm 68 and retired been there got the t shirt and wore it out but bees can jerk me around. How cool is THAT ? Not just comb but a fast hive for resources SEEMs to be a good thing. All four of our sons and families gathered in Lampasas Texas. Rolling clouds during eclipse made total darkness. All that could be seen was phones in the air like at a concert.

Be a great idea to leave the nucs open when you made the hives up instead of closing them up and throwing them to the side with bees still in them , if they where open the bees still in those nucs could fly out and find and locate their hive ,only have to move the nucs a little bit away ,not sure why you did that with the nucs and left over bees.

I am a 6 year bee keeper in upstate NY, I have a hard time selling my honey? Have 5 gallon buckets of honey and have been to all the local stores, no luck? any suggestions?

On average, how many colonies do you like to run per location and what is your process for finding new locations? Do you buy more land or strike a deal with a landowner?
@jamesbarron1202
@jamesbarron1202 2 месяца назад
Landowners are begging for beekeepers here in Texas for Ag exemption. Your lucky to find a beekeeper who’ll put bees on your property without charging you. And they want a lot. I searched everywhere and gave up and started beekeeping myself. I rescue or trap all my bees. Beekeepers here have no problem finding land and also getting paid for their hives.

@@jamesbarron1202 AG exemption? You mean tax break? I’m in southern Missouri and will probably be outgrowing my one apiary on my land so I am curious how to go about this… Sounds like it might not be hard that’s cool.
@jamesbarron1202
@jamesbarron1202 2 месяца назад
@@idunasorchard same thing as a tax break. The landowner has to file. Beekeeper does nothing government wise. Just make an agreement with a landowner on how much you want to charge them. When I was looking for a beekeeper I had some want half of what it saved in my taxes. It’s cheaper for me to raise my own bees. I have a pecan orchard also for exemption but the tax appraisal agents say you have to pour so much money into them (fertilizer, irrigation, weed and pest control) that your not making any money on them. You’ll make more money letting nature take its course. Pest control is a requirement when the yellow grasshoppers swarm here. They’ll entirely strip trees. They want receipts for everything for proof that your wasting money on them. And every pecan you sell. Bees are simple. No receipts. You just have to keep the required amount of hives (per acre) on your property.

@@jamesbarron1202 Thanks for the information. Most of the agriculture around here is hay and cattle, but maybe opportunities can be found here as well.

Right now we have been lucky enough to meet people who want bees on their property as we continue to build and eventually be able to afford to buy land. We have heard mixed answers on how many hives you can keep in new locations. A commercial beekeeper I was chatting with said 36 but then another beekeeper told me 15 is the magic number. We currently have 16 at each yard (not counting the breeding yard) but will be growing again here soon so we will see what ends up working best.

I hate how those nuc boxes collect water. I had one today I didn't think the water was going to to stop running out of it.

You don't put bricks on top of your hives?

walk-away splits aren't that good as they will make smaller queens, they will feed older grub which will hatch quicker and kill the bigger queen cells. So I suggest if you have to do one press the bottom of cell with an egg to create a bigger cell for the queen and return in week and get rid of the smaller cells leaving very few or just one big cell.
@researcherAmateur
@researcherAmateur 2 месяца назад
I agree about the quality of those queens. Those splits are for beginners. But if you want to be sure that queen is made from an egg just come back after 5 days and take off every capped cell.. pick 1 or 2 open ones and that's it. You can even see how much jelly they have. They should be two days old cells. Simple bee math.
@jaibusby673
@jaibusby673 2 месяца назад
17:30 I would disagree with that it can hurt muchness putting a queen in one each pallet as all those bees will go straight to her and vacate the other hives.
