Thank you for the video very useful tip, I was wondering if there is a technique to heat creasing round or curved edges
@LeathercraftMasterclass
@LeathercraftMasterclass 5 месяцев назад
For curves you would use the tip or heel of the creaser.

Uh! Thank you. I needed this tutorial. 😊 Personally I bought a double electric one from China. I like it!

I'm thinking about getting an adjustable (0mm-5.0mm) fileteuse creasing tip.

Not a bad idea

How critical is the string/cord size? It occurs to me that on fine creasers, too large of a cord might result in changing the profile of the groove…making it broader at the edge. Worse, it could do do unevenly, distorting the crispness of the crease. TIA
@LeathercraftMasterclass
@LeathercraftMasterclass Год назад
With a super fine polish it would probably take years to note any profile changes, but ideally you want to match the groove or at least be close.

@@LeathercraftMasterclass agreed. Your method shorn here will not produce any adverse effects, id say it is on the gentler side of techniques when it comes to polishing.

So useful! I’ll be polishing my creaser heads tomorrow. Do you have any suggestions for reliable ways to clean the outside of the creaser tip , if say edge paint or dye was melted onto it?
@LeathercraftMasterclass
@LeathercraftMasterclass Год назад
I haven't found a solvent that will do it, so I use a scouring pad (Scotch-Brite) which removes minimal metal in the process.

Nice one Phil - perhaps this technique could be used with a grinding paste to make the groove deeper then polished to enhance the groove???
@LeathercraftMasterclass
@LeathercraftMasterclass Год назад
Possibly. I'd probably use a micro fine round file for that, but I can't say I've come across a creaser with a too-shallow groove yet.

I have a hand creaser but no burner. Can you please do a video detailing how the crease differs with the heated tip vs not heated tip (looks, effectiveness and longevity)? Not sure if I need to buy a burner or if it’s just another tool I won’t use? 🤔

Well, It's going to be a case of having a clearly defined crease line vs a barely visible crease line that disappears with time and use. On soft chrome leathers you won't see any line without heat. Definitely get one. I use a small precision torch that takes short butane canisters, you can pick those up cheaply online: tinyurl.com/5275shtz
