Wow. It really demonstrates how well-constructed the song is. I couldn't imagine the song, especially the "Funeral for a Friend" part, without piano, but this totally worked.

Yeah, I thought the same thing. I have to imagine that James's background on piano really came into play here. That was his first instrument, and he took lessons for quite a while. I think he hated it, but that had to come back to him.

I'm not the biggest fan of Metallica's newer stuff but this was great! It's also nice to see James smiling and having fun on stage, and I love the bromance that James and Elton John seem to have developed over the last couple of years. I just wish they'd actually had a chance to perform a song together before Elton decided to stop playing live (I'd love to hear them collaborate on something like Unforgiven 3 with the piano intro).

"It's also nice to see James smiling and having fun on stage" Yeah man, I completely agree. James smiling and windmilling is just infectious fun. "just wish they'd actually had a chance to perform a song together before Elton decided to stop playing live" I know. I really hope they can do something together at some point, even if it's just a studio thing.

Likewise, I never heard of this song from Sir Elton, but I must admit that I know everything metallica and I went to one show after the black album and that was incredible. But this cover to me is a masterpiece. But Eltons live version equally good.

Once again, Batman and Robin make my day. I'm a huge Metallica fan and grew up on Elton John! Music is for everyone. Love ,peace, laughter and happiness. Nothing more important! As a Old straight grandfather of 10(soon), I hope I am setting a example of acceptance for my grandkids. Thanks Mark, Thanks Ladi, Semper Fi!

Oh man that's a lovely comment. Thank you! I'm really glad you enjoyed this one. I really hope you check out more of our pride themed stuff. We looked at all new artists this year, and man on man are there some amazing folks we found. This Friday's was a real shocker for both of us. We also have a couple of Ladi's Rockucations that I'm excited about.

A great reaction, I give credit to their producer Fieldman who was there. He is super great and made Metallica mature, creative, melodic, etc. This performance was staggering. Sir Elton Johns live version is so good.

Totally agree. We saw Elton about five years ago, and it was an amazing show. And we saw Metallica last year during the M72 tour, and that was amazing too. I really kinda wish James and Elton would do something together. It's obvious there's so much love and mutual admiration there that the thought of them creating something together is really compelling.

@LikeMindedLunatics thanks for the reply but that would be a historic event. Tallica and Sir Elton John I believe, would be unique and great. That would be awesome!. But I think they are gearing up for Garage inc. 2.0, this time with a good ass producer. PEACE Likemindedlunatics.

That's really nice! I hope you check out our playlist of "Ladi's Rockucation." Ladi doesn't know a thing about rock and metal, and that's the playlist where I try to rockucate him. There are some really, really fun videos on that playlist: ru-vid.com/group/PL6kwOcqXuEnVUY-Upmyjk1_VxpjiJLLCl And cheers from Austin! I miss London! My wife and I used to visit about once a year, but it's been since COVID since we've been back. Can you smuggle me some Rodda's!??! I'll send you authentic Texas BBQ sauce in return!

Yes your right in the early years james tried to sing and at first he sang like Robert plant and then when that didn't work he just screamed until the black album that's when he first learned how to actually sing and by then he was already pushing late 20s
@LikeMindedLunatics
@LikeMindedLunatics Месяц назад
Yeah he was almost 30 before he started taking formal singing lessons. That's really late, and he'd been screaming his head off for almost a decade. He sounds so amazing now. Honestly, I think his voice is better now than it was when he was younger, which I think is a real testament to his dedication in maintaining it. Thanks for checking this one out! I hope you check out more of our stuff and subscribe if you haven't already.

Great cover, great reaction. Learned some fun facts about things Metallica too. Funny how even in the beginning of their career Metallica were called sellouts (because of an acoustic guitar😆) but all they’ve ever done is do whatever they wanted to do

Elton John paid Metallica the greatest compliment live on Howard Stern's show by saying that "Nothing Else Matters" is quite possibly the most perfect song ever written and recorded. Hetfield was moved to tears. If you can.....give their cover of "Tuesday's Gone" by Lynyrd Skynyrd a listen. Amazing work. I never knew I'd hear the harmonica in a Metallica song....ever.

We actually watch that interview at the end of this video. And I haven't done "Tuesday's Gone," or anything from Garage inc. I'm sure I'll get around to some of those covers in the future. They're so great. I loved "Turn the Page," and the two videos are great, too.

That was an amazing cover and great introduction to Pride Month!!! My favorite Elton songs. The transition from Funeral for a Friend to Love Lies Bleeding gives me chills every time I listen to it. It’s so fun to find out more about influences and I imagine for James to hear praise from one of his musical heroes is one of the best feelings in the world. CryCount += 1. This was a good one and I won’t lie: I teared up too. Especially when you think about all of James’ struggles.

A few years ago, Metallica was on the Howard Stern show promoting the 30th anniversary of The Black Album and Sir Elton John was on the phone with them and brought James to tears when he said he thinks "Nothing Else Matters" is one of the best songs ever written. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wofWGD5TUxo.htmlsi=0Qd-zCGmFxnuOXBF

Music is human. Humans have genders and identities. Ergo, so does music. If your music is so colorless and formulaic as to have no flavoring, no tint of the composer or artist's thoughts, perhaps that's an issue to recognize and examine.
