We’ve lost sooooo much during the past 3 years. We’re still losing so much. Losing Edward Van Halen hit me so very hard when it happened. And tonight, as I sit here alone, counting all that I’ve lost and what will be taken from me tomorrow, I wish I could go back to the 80’s and do it all again. What the hell is going on here? I miss you, Eddie. God how I miss you.

Wow! Today the 15th of march 2024 i just saw an interview coming by from Eddie and Alex touring Holland in '79. They told the interviewer that they moved to the US 10/11 years earlier because of the oranges and the cheap prices. And family already living down there. So, i knew Jump but i straight jumped into their work. Never payed attention to Van Halen. Can you believe it? But i took the time looking up their stuff and listened. And listened and now I'm into wanting to know more about guys whi grew up in Nijmegen. Unbelievable. Your story and what they mean to you, Unbelievable! I know Edward(Eddie) is gone but i never gave it a thought. Now i am giving it a thought. Today is the day i will learn more about van Halen. 'You really got me'. RIP Eddie.... Take care man! @@lanejhenley6968It depends on how you look at it. From this world, yes. But he still does exist, but in another dimension, which is not a physical one, like here on Earth. Now he's truly home, because the school here on Earth is just a brief moment in the existence of our eternal souls. So now he's in his natural state of being, which can not be said for the low vibrational plane here in the physical dimension. He can still follow what's going on here on Earth. And he definitely knows exactly what's going on in Wolfgang's life, make no mistake about it! I leave you with that...🙏

They were THE best, until Hendrix, Zappa, Page, Howe, Fripp, Hackett, Allman, Blackmore, Gallagher and co. came along and started progressing the rock format. I definitely can see Cream's influence on Van Halen. They were a very groovy hard rock virtuosic band, pretty much what Van Halen was with David Lee Roth at the beginning. Eddie said Eric was his biggest guitar influence, but the crazy attitude was more in line with Jimmy Page, so I'd say Van Halen was a mix of Cream with Led Zep.

I've heard that from so many bands, how once they really started playing live and getting success, traveling and so on, they literally didn't have time to keep up on what was out there. Some bands wanted to just s little and would actually plan an hour or so together they could try and take in what else was going on. Only other way was when they toured with other bands. I can remember Joe Walsh talking about that, how he couldn't stop hearing music in his head and writing it down and trying to create something. He would say it wasn't because there wasn't amazing stuff out there, he just had so little time, but said he and the Eagles would could somebody we would come into the studio and say you'll gotta listen to this. And he said he would always want to play something along with them. Guys like this are full throttle into their influences, but once they get going on their own, they become so busy and focused on n their music, recording and touring, I doubt they'd hear a fire alarm at that point.

My Mom and Dad were not musicians but our lives were full of music. My Dad was a Jazz guy, my Mom more Classical, but Pop, Rock, Country all fed into that menu. My Dad was a bit of an Audiophile so there was good sound as well. Live music was an imperative...

Love Eddie so much.♥️🕶️ This is nice to hear, but I’ll never forget the interview where he said “I didn’t have any musical influences.” Then, when pestered a bit, he finally said “maybe Deep Purple.” 😂 humility looked great on you, Ed. Rest in Peace! ♥️

Eddie listened to many artist in the 70s, and did covers of their songs years before he got famous. Roth confirms the covers of Rock bands.

People take note, whatever you think of Clapton, he inspired a lot of cats that changed the landscape of music. So if he never was on the scene, things would look much different.

Eddie made me pay much more attention to Clapton when he mentioned in a Guitar World interview how he has that “brown sound” like Eddie had and that was one of his favorite guitarist! But he also put me onto the Bluesbreakers and Allen Holdsworth who I never heard of before he brought him up.

I still hear key elements of Jimi in Eddie's playing. I'm not the only one to observe that over the years. That said, I can understand why Eddie would want to distance himself from Jimi and not be typecast a Hendrix disciple.

You know it's funny Ed says that she didn't really listen to other musicians and other music, but Wolfgang talks about how his father came to him with a set of headphones and had him listen to Peter Gabriel "in your eyes" And how it was the most beautiful song because it was so complete in every way as a composition so I don't think it's exactly true that Ed didn't listen to other music and other musicians I would surmise that he was very discriminating about his choices and certainly about his praise for others in that he understood how much influence he could have if he gave out praise and discriminately and that could have a negative impact when that wasn't necessarily his intention

She asks him this question because many put a high premium on musical influences. But Eddie's point is that he decided not to be influenced by other musicians at all, because he was "wrapped up in his own world." In doing so was what made him so innovative.
