I have a question. In Hybrid, Dynamic mode is the engine always running and supported by the e motor ? Or is it also shut off when not flooring it ? Thanks !
@funcarreviews
@funcarreviews 9 месяцев назад
Hello, I do not remember well as it is a bit old. If not mistaken what will make effect is not the « dynamic » drive mode itself (you also have efficiency, comfort, auto, dynamic) but more the hybrid mode you are in (hybrid auto (battery auto) or hybrid hold (battery hold)). In hybrid hold mode (wether your are in dynamic drive mode or not) the engine will be almost always on, and the EV will assist. (The correct terms are battery not hybrid. I made a mistake in the video)

Thanks for this, I was wondering how much difference there was between all the modes. I normally drive in Efficiency mode, so good to know I can just knock down into S and I'm not missing out on much power. I wish we could set the steering wheel button to jump into dynamic mode!

@funcarreviews
@funcarreviews 3 года назад
hello, I ll try to answer you at the end of the week what was the displayed range. Last time I drove it I was able to drive around 40 KM without air ventilation inside (to save battery). Also outside was cold so it can affect range. The range suffers a bit because the electric motor has some power (and the car is heavy). The new A3 is lighter for a almost similar battery capacity with lower HP, so It should perform better in terms of range.

Hello . The Q8 60 TFSI-e ,is faster than 55 ? Regards
@funcarreviews
@funcarreviews 2 года назад
Hello, Aha this is a good question but as i did not try the Q8 60 TFSI-e i will stay to the theory of it. The Q5 55 TFSIe is less good overall than the Q8 60 TFSIe in terms of performance if you look at the engines : 2L Inline 4 vs 3L V6 Fuel engine : 250 HP vs 330 HP / 370 Nm vs 450 Nm Electric engine : 140 HP vs 135 HP / 350 Nm vs 400 Nm Total : 362 HP vs 462 / 500 Nm vs 700 Nm 0-100 : 5.3s for Q5 vs 5.4s for Q8. So actually, officially they are very close in terms of who is faster at the 0-100 KM/H. You don't need to go too far for the explanation of such closeness despite the numbers in favor of the Q8. The Q8 is way heavier than the Q5. Q5 : 2150 KG Q8 : 2515 KG As they have the same battery capacity and almost the same EV torque, the weight is probably more on the car itself and the fuel engine (counting the fuel reservoir which is bigger on the Q8). The basic Q8 is around roughly 250 KG more than the Q5. So that's a tie :)

@lennartl.445

The acceleration in electric mode seems very weak, considering Audi claiming that the electric drivetrain reaches 105 kW peak power (which is quite much for a phev).
@funcarreviews
@funcarreviews 3 года назад
Hello, Indeed, limiting the power output at 50% is a bit annoying. I have tried to explain it in my review. I suspect it is for the driver safety (car would be more reactive by engaging fuel engin sooner if you need to overtake as it is heavy) and fuel engine life (it would not rev as much with engine cold at 50% than at 100% with the button at the end of the pedal). But at least they did not repeat that on the new A3 TFSI e.
@lennartl.445
@lennartl.445 3 года назад
@@funcarreviews Thanks! Both of your explanations make sense. But nevertheless that's not a good solution by Audi.
@funcarreviews
@funcarreviews 3 года назад
Thank you. I agree with you. You cannot really enjoy the full power of the EV engine (which has a nice power). I would find this normal in less powerful engines of other brands. But this is annoying for such an expensive and powerful car. You might engage the ICE by mistake. This would add wear to the engine for nothing.

I hope the turbo is electricly cooled?
@funcarreviews
@funcarreviews 3 года назад
That is a good question but I guess this is not a problem that could affect only this car. Some HEV / MHEV / PHEV cars can have the ICE engine off while driving in certains conditions. Therefore the oil technically should stop going through the turbo while still spinning and wearing would happen over time. I would suspect that engineers know better and have taken this problem into account. But your comment is totally legitimate. It reminds me the same situation with start and stop systems and HEV cars that would have some components wearing prematurely but those parts are reinforced.

@@funcarreviews My mom has a GTE (GTE has common turbo problems on cars that are revved cold and hot turndown) and after full throttle it waits around 6 seconds before turning the engine off. With your 55 tfsi e it turns off right away
@funcarreviews
@funcarreviews 3 года назад
Is your GTE the first one that came out ? This 6 seconds is happening in every mode the car has ? (For example, gear in D and mode in hybrid hold )? I have driven the first one a couple of times when it came out but never paid attention to it (was not reviewing vehicles at that time ). I reviewed the new A3 e-tron but I didn’t check that aspect. I checked the list of evolutions between the generations. If I remember well on my first A3 e-tron, in sport mode, the engine will not turn off right away. Then the Q5 came out and the electronic handling got different. With the new A3 e-tron, electric might differ once again but not that one which is important as you mentioned. This is my personal opinion, and I don’t know all the models of the world, but Toyota seem the be the best handling 2 engines, it s gear system and it s electronics for best efficiency and probably long life. GTE when it came out, seemed a bit more advanced than the A3. It felt like Audi had to make it fast to stay in the competition and missed some steps. The Q5 got better than the first A3 but is still not good enough compared to some others.

@@funcarreviews Thanks for this video anyway, gives a good understanding. I drive an A6 55 TFSI-e Quattro Wagon, so exactly the same drivetrain and engine(s) I believe. funny and strange thing is: - Audi states the Q5 does 0-100 in 5,2 and the A6 does it in 5,7 (which is really strange cause the Q5 is obviously less aerodynamic). Best I’ve done so far is 5,62 seconds, so 5,7 doesn’t seem too far off. - Doesn’t matter which mode I’m in (even in Efficiency and EV mode combined), the petrol engine ALWAYS kicks in when I floor the pedal
@funcarreviews
@funcarreviews 3 года назад
You are welcome. You have my Q5 TFSIe review for detailed explanations on the different modes. For the performance I do agree with you that the A6 should be better as you stated. On the A6 where does the EV power stop ? 50 % too ? I gave MY explanation on that in my test drive review but still find it strange. This is not the case on the A3 where 100% is possible. It will never go into ICE (unless you kick it down to the button at the end).
