Thanks for the heads up, saved me a lot of headache searching for a problem with wiring. changed my regulator on a remanned alternator with the old one, works perfect.
I noticed that the *Motorcraft* labelled voltage regulators -- the black ones -- have a 1995 part number ( 'F5' = "F" : 1990's ; "5" : 1995 ) , but I couldn't ascertain the aftermarket ( referred to as 'The Original' in your video ) regulator's number , nor could I ascertain it on the *Motorcraft* white coloured regulator . I have a 2004 Crown Vic P71 ( I bought it from a private party two weeks ago ) which has a replacement alternator . Everything was good until today ( 28 / 04 / 2021 ) . I noticed tonight ( 21:55 HRS ) that the 'battery' light was flickering intermittently . I'll have to scope out the voltage regulator tomorrow ; I'd be surprised if it's an OEM Motorcraft part ; and further surprised if it has a newer part number ( e.g. , "F8" or "XR" --- Fo. Mo. Co. part numbers changed in 1997 , with most parts carrying an "F7" prefix , whereas others carried an "WR" [ et al. , ad seq. ] prefix ; maybe even a "3R" [ 2003 ] ad seq. ) . Thanks for the pointers regarding this 'Gremlin' .
For the past of two weeks sense I have my 08 grand marquis that had an alternator's problem but I didn't go to the junkyard but I know the place who knows how to rebuild an alternators but they have alot different of alternators on a shelf who already rebuilt thank God they had mine on a shelf, and I gave them my old alternator with $105 but if they don't have mine on a shelf I have to be waiting for 2 hours but thank God my problem solved, but in auto parts they asked me $250 plus $30 for the core charge, I saved a lot of money, that place rebuild alternators, starters, generators, and jump starters.
It started out that my battery gage would drop near 0 and my battery light came on so went yesterday to get another alternator which seems to have made things worse because now with the new alternator all my dashlights are coming on and the battery gage on dash goes all the way high maxing out and it's doing this on & off on& off I've had problems in the past with putting new alternators on til we thought we finally found the right one but the last one we put on (new ) was only less than 2yrs old My question is with this new alternator why is all dashlights coming on & off battery gage maxing out like over charging and before we put new one on the alternator that was on it would just battery light on dash would come on and the gage would go very low an then would go back to where it should be but the car never failed to start if my gage showed nearly dead when I would come out from store car would start back everytime???????? HELP
Your car has a pcm belongs to white voltage regulators, grey or black voltage regulators are meant for non pcm fords year 2002 and below after 2003 panther cars started using pcms so the grey voltage regulators wont charge due to pcm
That's a decent rate. Batteries rest at 12.5 to 12.7. Good Systems will charge between 13.3 to 14.7. The more load you have the lower the voltage will be depending on the amp rating and the technology in it.
i had the same problem in my 2006 Grand Marquis GS after the ford dealer replaced the alternator after 2 yrs of it being in car i find out why my battery light kept comingon it was putting out 16.5 D.C. so my dad got me a new alternator & belt for it problem solved on mine
brandon laielli just that I used the white voltage regulator and the light didn't come back on. I considered it fixed. All the research I read was that you should buy a motorcraft alternator because it has the circuitry to properly communicate with the ecm and keep the light off. If going aftermarket, I'd look at the regulator and see what color it is.
