@@DrAndreaFurlan was told by dr. i have trigger finger and to keep it wrapped daily and nightly wear glove and wrap over glove finger and take pills for inflammation. but i read trigger finger makes the finger unable to pull away from palm and in my case i can not bring it toward palm (index finger). where the finger connects to palm is most sore.
This is excellent because most other videos on this subject do not explain how the fingers work with tendons and the forearm muscles, or show a working model of the tendon against the pulley, this is much better so people can understand how it works and what the problem is.
Great video Dr. Furlan. I've been struggling with this very issue for a few months, now. A friend of mine made a good suggestion and he said, since the pain is in the ring finger, I may need to pay more attention to my marriage!
Good information madam for trigger finger its usual we are following splinting & ice is a conservative method along with some exercises like proximal tendon strengthening and as if massage may have low evidence but its better option prior to go for pricks & surgeries.. thanks for responding my request ..

I have been a T1diabetic for almost 40 years. I’ve had trigger finger on all ten fingers (not all at the same time) I’ve also had surgery on every single one of them. The surgery gave permanent relief. I have a lot of connective tissue problems from diabetes. Two years ago I started eating low carb and all my connective tissue issues have greatly improved

Metabolic Syndrome Trigger Finger just Google. Am also a very long standing Type 1 Diabetic above 40 years and only my ring finger gets affected upon strenuous physical activity it heals off. Do watch Dr. Allan Mandells video on Trigger Finger. It's just a scar tissue in the nodule. 😁😁
Being an older person and working hard on a house in bad condition, I ended up with eight trigger fingers. Surgery was quite successful. Dr. Furlan was right to mention a maximum of three injections; some doctors say two. I saw a woman who had a huge problem, a finger that stuck up, because of excessive injections.

Hi, Dr. Furlan, Good video short and specific. I had this problem sometimes back and I was given the steroid injection. The condition reduced gradually and nowadays I get it occasionally with very low impact. I decided not to go for any medications or injections but to massage and do some stretches . Will I be managed to control it this way. I am not a Diabetic. Thank you again for the information. Really appreciate it.

I have this on my ring finger. The pulley in the middle of the palm on that hand is puckered and the finger cannot straighten fully. It began to appear about 10yrs ago (I am now 65yo) I did hard manual work then and needed strong hands to grab things. I can no longer use that finger for strength work without it hurting as I tighten my grip on something. But it is no longer sore otherwise. I did the exercises to lengthen the tendon but the pulley is permanently damaged. However, now that finger is thin while the other fingers on that hand are still strongly muscled because I still do a lot of manual work requiring hand strength. But no one would notice if I don't tell them. We don't think about muscles in our fingers but it is obvious in my fingers that one finger does not work or is weak.

Once I had a patient with this problem, it started quite recently, like a couple of weeks before. It took 2 minutes to treat it manually, and it did not come back. Osteopathy and Ortho-Bionomy can resolve many of such issues.

Very interesting video; well structured and well explained. I would; however, like to remind Dr Furlan that 911 is an emergency number in the US (and Canada?) and not in the rest of the world. Your video can be viewed outside the USA as weell. The international emergency number from mobile phones is 112. If you do not wish to give the international number which will be diverted to emergency dispatchers everywhere in the world, then at least mention it is a US number, only and suggest that people outside the USA find out the relevant number in their country.
OMG, this just happened to me about 2 months ago. But my finger bent backwards, not into my. I started screaming because i didn't know what was happening, my daughter came running and calmed me down. I thank God for her, she looked it up online, and after icing and massage it released. I pray that never happens again, it was so scary.
Anyone have trouble when driving - changing gear? Really painful as I change gear. I've developed a way of using the edge of my hand instead which helps a bit. Have had trigger finger for around 6 weeks now and massage isn't working. After your video I'll try a splint tonight and a glove! 🙃
I have middle finger for long time .i have done already 2 injections and unfortunatly the problem continue. I am afraid to do surjery. what can i do?? Is it good that i will be all the time with splint?

I am a very long time a Type I Diabetic, n was suffering from not one but both palms, 3 fingers each palm. After ibuprofen n other medicines no improvements. My LDL cholesterol and triglycerides were abnormal, once Statin was started in 3 days Trigger Fingers nullified 🙂🙂 . Still continuing with statins No Trigger Fingers. According to Me it's LDL Cholesterol and Triglycerides, Main Culprits of Trigger Fingers n also Heart Attack stroke n many more.
I HAD a trigger finger. After seeing a hand doctor I was told I would need surgery. I started wearing a Shungite bracelet. ( I bought off shop lc) After a few weeks my finger was fine and has not gone back to the trigger condition. NO SURGERY needed.
After 3 steroid injections, then took daily 100 mg capsules of hyaluronic acid plus massaging, Easiest" to "unlock" frozen finger is NOT to puil curled finger open but instead rub its back downward (away from nail) in relaxed and painless motion. Instead of splint, my doc showed how to tape trigger finger to its buddy finger..
Doctor I don't have diabetes, BP or thyroid but still am suffering from trigger finger of my right hand ring finger. Hence am unable to do any exercise because I cannot bend this ring finger at all. Kindly suggest.
I have accidentally cut my ring & middle fingers at mp joint. Now it's 3 months left. Still my fingers are locked. Is it trigger finger or anything else??
I have that problem. However, my doctor isn't doing anything about it. I said I wanted cortisone option, but crickets. Two small ganglion cysts were found too. This problem started in May of 2022.

I had trigger finger for the past one month Rand left ring finger.I have a habit of placing my both hand under the head during sleeping in supine position through out night. May be it happened due to this or Ihave diabetes pre for the past five years with no medicines due to allergy of almost medicines only diet plan is doing every day. Some times it also a cause for my trigger finger. Dr your presentation regarding hand and forearm is good. Can you give any home remedy or simple excercises to escape from this.I am aged62 Male more pain in hand ring finger.I am using a finger splint during night only.Return your message
Surgery and shots are the last thing you want to be doing to your hand. I've found exercising and stretching the tendon to be much more effective. Found nothing in this video useful or helpful.
I have trigger finger in my index finger. It seems as if I have arthritis in the knuckle. Is it possible that the tendon doesn't slide easily because of the arthritis?
Hello Dr. Andrea, you have a very nice videoside manner :) anyway wondering if you can explain further the link between blood sugar and trigger finger, carpel, and other joint conditions? I have always had overactive jobs, hobbies, etc so i attributed the trigger/carpel to that however i have noticed that if i eat sugar it it gets much worse. tu
Hi, i had this problem, and administered a beestinger within the central part of the pain. One sting a week will do it perfectly. Of course, remove the beestinger with your finger nail sliding across the skin surface where the stinger is stuck, but after 5 minutes.
@@DrAndreaFurlan The beesting; its bio-chemical content will liquid the "rock buildup," and the regional tissue inflammation zone will be reduced about 6 inches in diameter; ie, the entire hand.
I watched the videos and tried a few exercises but I admit I did not do them extensively. I went to a doctor who did the steroid shot. Great relief the next day but a month later it has returned. I will see him again next month but I am afraid he will recommend cutting the sheath.

My father, uncle and cousin had this on their ring finger. I have three lumps on my little finger, one just under the lowest joint of the finger and the other two on my palm. I have no pain, no loss of movement.
Thanks for sharing. Very sad when seeing for example the results of thyroid problem not being treated. I am not sure that altogether restricting range of motion more and more all the time would help.
Good information! I had a thumb and middle finger affected some months back. After researching, I decided to make a splint for my thumb. I had scraps of silver from years ago and made a stylish coil that I wore almost constantly. Oddly enough, my middle finger stopped "catching" too.

I hyper extended my thumb felt like it's broken the thumb bent back to my fore arm and when I saw the Dr. I was told I have trigger thumb but I feel that is not the right diagnoses. It has been since July 2nd 2021 and still feels like when it happened I think it requires a corrective surgery it's ruff being limited use of the hand hard to open containers and things
I'm curious how effective the surgery is compared to injections? I have had injections for a couple of fingers but it feels like it made it worse. And I've got severe trigger finger in all my fingers except my thumbs. Although side note... a couple years ago my left thumb started to "catch" and it got so painful that I actually went to the urgent care and they did X-rays and it showed that when I "extended" it, not bend it, completely it actually dislocated the top or end bone from the next bone in line. It actually pulled it down along side of the next bone instead of all the bones being in line with each other. And everyone was confused and of course recommend a hand specialist. I went and they said it was a rare extreme form of trigger finger and tried injections and they wanted to do surgery but I've had so many surgeries already in my life for other crap that I just kept it braced for a couple months and then it stopped dislocating?!?! They don't understand how but again that's the story of my life really lol lots of health issues and if there are anything rare that can happen you can pretty much check "yes" but now I'm having all of my fingers on both hands locking and popping and not in the fun dance way either lol but I've tried some injections and it feels like it made it worse once the numbing went away. I do have lupus and rheumatoid arthritis and Raynauds syndrome and connective tissue disorder among lots of other crap. And I see a rheumatologist regularly and they want to do more injections but I'm thinking about just having them do surgery on all of them but not sure yet....

It went away and then it came back again when I went to catch another cricket ball the following year. I cannot remember what I did but it just went away eventually. I don’t go catching cricket balls anymore. 🇦🇺👍🏏🍺

Doctor Andrea- I broke my right middle finger at the knuckle about 40 years ago. I had it set, but it was never quite right afterwards. It did not bother me until this year and it is starting to "catch". Do you think that is the original damage surfacing or the beginning of trigger finger? I am right handed. What type of doctor to I look for in this case? Thank you ~ Diane

I have seen some experimental work in which Bromelain, Nattokinase or Streptokinase are used to chew up cytokines. Cytokines modulate the inflammation response of the body. The cytokines are protein peptides typically from 1k to 20k amu in size and can easily be cut by these proteases. I will warn that this is experimental so you should consult your physician before attempting this. However some of these enzymes may be classified as GRAS (generally recognized as safe) in varying amounts and for differing lengths of time. I have not examined their status in this regard. They might aggravate existing conditions such as stomach or esophageal ulcers so do your due diligence and speak with your physician before doing your own N=1 clinical studies. Lol

QUESTION? ideveloped a trigger finger a few years ago after using a power tool for a extented time. Last December 2020 i was diagnosed with Bells Palsy, This past summer while walking on my new treadmill I have either developed Plantar Fasciitis or Tarsal Tunnel syn. My Question is are these related and what can i do in a natural patheic way to fix it.
Very interesting question. I would not be able to answer here as I need to examine you and do a lot of questionnaires and get a lot of personal information. I can't offer medical consultation here. If you are in Ontario, Canada, I would be happy to see you as my patient in the pain clinic where I work.
I had trigger finger in my left thumb...it hurt like hell. The splints did not fit well and were uncomfortable to wear. So I took a 1 inch wide cloth band aid and wrapped it around my thumb between the knuckles, it was just stiff enough to keep me from bending my thumb and was comfortable to wear. I put on disposable gloves when in the kitchen or toilet to keep it dry and sanitary. After a few months I only wear the band aid at night as a preventative measure.

@Dr. Andrea Furlan thank you for making all of this information available to us. I'll definitely check it out. Thanks Dr. I have trigger finger in my right and left ring fingers it’s very painful and I take ibuprofen 2x3daily, but no changes, I’m not diabetic, pls can you direct me to any Orthopedic Dr in Queens NYC. Thanks
Dr. Thanks for your fast response. Pls I have been taking Motrin ( ibuprofen) but no changes, but if I combine it with prednisolone 5mg, the pain seems to reduce a bit, but I’m scared of the side effects. Pls advise me on prednisolone. Thanks
Is there any research on the use of Photo Bio Modulation (PBM)? PBM is the use of Near infrared Light (850 nanometer) to reduce inflamztion, increase bloodfow, and stimulate the mitochondria to produce more ATP. This approach greatly reduced the pain and stiffeness affecting my trigger fingers.
Please @Dr. Andrea Furlan , if my trigger finger already has a Callus , does the splint still work? Is that recommended ? I took a steroid shot and it never went only got a bit easier to bend the finger as I always type and it’s been on over a year (some times better but got worse since August 2023). My doctor who gave the steroid told me I didn’t need to massage the hand or even bother resting it after the steroid shot on Jan. 25th and I feel he was wrong as if I did massage it as I was thinking with anti inflammatory topical drugs, it might have aided healing. Please can you let me know your thoughts on this? Thanks for the video.

My son was 2 years old with two trigger fingers in each hand was given a splinter for one finger in one hand . Since he was not leaving it on also not seeing any improvement the doctor refer him to an orthopedic surgeon. He's now 14 years of age and his index finger on his right hand is half way open and is not able to fully stretch due to surgery suggested. Do you recommend a second surgery doctor ? Thank you 🙏
@@monicatapia5566 rectify the cause. In majority of trigger finger cases scar tissue nodule is the main culprit. Can watch Dr. Allan Mandell s video on Trigger Finger.
