Appreciate your help with my no crank - no start issue… Used your brush kit, even though the brushes on my starter looked good. Starter problem is fixed. I think the copper washer on the plastic plunger may have been the culprit.
Is it necessary to spray varnish on the armature when rebuilding? Thanks for taking the time and effort to make this super informative video. Ordered the rebuild kit yesterday. Question - why are accord starters known to not last long? Does the starter with the rebuild kit typically last longer than the original? My starter started going out at ~60,000 miles. Thanks for the help… Dan Ayo
You don't have to spray varnish. The Mitsuba design is smart and light, but in my opinion leaves a lot on the table for longevity. To achieve 100k miles from that starter you should replace the battery every 4 years max in a colder or not regularly used climate. (Leaving a battery idle a lot effects life expectancy) A rebuild kit for this would restore normal life expectancy but nothing more.
@@rebuilderinabox Thanks, Mike! Hope USPS gets it to me soon. Every so often the starter is completely quiet when the key is turned, Battery good, dash lights come on. Try to start again and it generally starts. Will using the car (while waiting for kit) do more harm the starter. From everything I’ve read it looks like a starter issue. OEM rebuild looks like a good option. Do you have an opinion for an after market option that would provide longer service than OEM?
@@danayo8852 We have not retro fitted anything for anything on the new Mitsuba design, however I do think it may not be a bad idea. I might have suggestions for experimentation, but I don't know your application year model engine size, AT or MT. But yes, the more you drive it like that, the worst the armature gets.
@@rebuilderinabox The starting problem is a 2014 Honda Accord, inline 4 cylinder (2.4L), automatic transmission. On occasion, about every fourth time, the starter is dead silent when the key is turned. All dash lights come on, battery read 12.6-7 volts. Headlights are bright. I ran a thorough check code and no errors are recorded. Thanks for the help.
There is no simple answer, it's just a bad design. The kit will fix it, but it's not magic. It won't change anything, just restore to original working condition. Keeping a newer battery (4yrs +) can help.
