One thing that I noticed about that resin prototype Alternators Bumblebee, is that you can kind of see the bones of what would become classics Bumblebee baked into his design. The doors ending up on his forearms, the seats of his vehicle mode ending up on his knees, to name a few similarities. I guess this design did see the light of day after all, in a roundabout way.

This is just incredible! Alternators got me into TF after watching RID. Crazy to see that BB classics mold. What could have been. Thank you both for doing this.

Maybe I've said this before, but in the mid-late 1990s I lucked out & won a Whiz Bang Transformers 1 of 1 prototype for a very decent price. It was an official presentation model for a "high end Transformers line" which came w/ a COA. It was a red sports car Countach? which had G1 Prime legs & a Superion head & a few other parts. It sat untouched in storage for over a decade. Expenses rose & we were moving so it had to be sold. I still have a bunch of pictures & wish I could have kept it, but family 1st collecting 2nd. Awesome show guys- thank you for doing it!

I still have about 8 photos of this 1/24 scale dissected & reassembled Lamborghini "kit bash". From the COA: "This was a presentation prototype for a line that Takara proposed for a High end ultra collectible Tfs in 1988?" I was proud to own/ display it for many years, but it's sale helped me settle in a new place. Binaltech is still one of my favourite TF lines of all time. Between these, reissues, eHobbys, comics and UT, we really were spoiled in the mid-2000s.

Great episode guys! It was awesome to hear about what happened behind the scenes with this line, and how it came to be. I've always liked the Alternators line. As a kid I had the Dodge Ram Optimus, and have always loved the design he had. I saw the smokescreen advertised on the back of a Transformers Energon comic/product catalogue that was packaged with Energon Signal Flare (who along with Cybertron Dirt Boss was one of the first Transformers toys I ever got, as a kid) and I always wanted to get him. He had such a great design, and his colour scheme looked really nice. Thanks for the intriguing video Proto, and Mr Archer.

Part of why I liked tfp smokescreens 2nd form was cause he was like an homage to the alternators color, I had the silverstreak version as a kid but I always wanted the smokescreen lol

1:09:23. Yellow was the 'signature' color for that generation of Z06. So GM might have played a part in it

fascinating stuff! In terms of next time, I think my big lingering question is who the heck the Dodge Ram figure was intended as, before it ended up as Optimus Prime. Stuff like the Mustang originally being solicited as "Freeway", the Hound retool never being released as Trailbreaker/Hoist, and Decepticharge's entire deal are also interesting to me. Also, I'm guessing there were never any plans for Inferno/Grapple!

I still collected a number of them. I liked the vehicle mode and the g1 characters but something I felt was missing and that was articulation, joints/doors fell off during transformation and I guess scale.

One thing I always wondered about Alternators was how come the Jaguar Ravage (which had a UK number plate on the back) was left hand drive?

I was an adult, at a Joe convention, before heard “blue” or “going blue” used for talking too much or cussing. I never hear it outside of explaining the “blue” in “blue streak” I wish it was still always Silverstreak, makes more sense to me.

I did make a series bible themed around transformers alternators a bit One problem with alternators was simply the lack of decepticons cars at the time and the lack of rights to use certain vehicles rights

Great video guys! I’ve always wondered why Megatron never made an appearance in Alternators. Also, what’s up with the bipedal Battle Ravage? I much prefer the standard ravage design. Always thought it was a cool figure

I bought that Dodge Viper Sideswipe last summer on eBay for 11 bucks. I absolutely love that alt mode! The car looks great and it made me think, "Man, I need to get more Alternators figures! 😄" butttttt his robot mode seems super compromised... Such an unattractive massive empty space under his head/where his back should be. He literally has no back! He can only be photographed straight on the front or straight on the back, any side view of the figure makes you go 🤨/😳/😖/😢/😓

There's a mod for that figure that enables you to fold the rear of the car over the robot's shoulders -- or make it more G1 when rotating his upper body. All that is needed is shaving away a tiny amount of plastic at the base of the hinge. Does wonders for his look.
