I added that same chassis with a different front bar variant to my eBay watch list today. How funny.

The suspension is a very accurate copy of the original VW Beetle / Porsche 356. Swing axles rear and trailing arms front.

Great video! I had the same problem as you at the start getting the final gear shaft into the final gear, at 5:20. Your socket solution saved me from damaging the parts!

That front suspension is from the 1980s Super Champ/Fighting buggy they work well untill you hit something then the cast aluminum snaps because its brittle
@brianellison3525
@brianellison3525 2 года назад
The super champ came out in 1982. The Rough Rider and the Sand Scorcher came out in 1979. In 1980 they used it under the Porsche turing car. Have fun and be well.

Great video build series! Very much enjoyed watching and I love the finished result! I notice that some of the links to the add-ons no longer link to a valid page. For example the inner fenders, resin engine and roof rack. Are there other places I can find items like those? I bought the Sand Scorcher and Subaru Brat remakes today and want to add some custom elements too them, especially to the SS.

You have a missing part up front, the center rod which tightened the left and right assembly together. Recheck the manual please.

A servo saver is meant to save the servo gears and not the suspension components. If you don't like the stock saver then take a look at what Kimbrough, Integy, or several other manufacturers offer. Kimbrough offers several types from standard to heavy duty use. These aftermarket savers don't have the slop that the stock one might have. Just make sure you get one with the correct number of splines that match whatever servo you're using. The most common splines used are: 23 - (JR, KO, Sanwa/Airtronics, Spektrum, Multiplex) 24 - (Hitec, a few Hobbico's) 25 - (Futaba, Traxxas, Tower, Cirrus, Duratrax, Savox, Hobbico, HPI, Blue Bird). Sorry for the information overload - I used to own a hobbyshop (until the internet killed me) that specialized in RC, lol.

I also started and owned a large hobby store - Galaxy Hobby in Lynnwood WA. I sold it and it is still going strong. I then worked at Horizon Hobby but am now retired.
@Waltkat
@Waltkat 5 лет назад
@@HobbyconceptsLLC Glad your store was/is doing so well. Mine was All Speed Hobbies in So. San Francisco, CA. And Horizon was one of my major suppliers along with that other one in IL. Most of the brick n mortar hobby shops around here have closed down. Such a sad situation when I have to order a tube of glue from the internet rather than walking into a store where I can do a bit of browsing to see what else I might need. Also I'm still not used to paying full retail for hobby supplies, lol.

I'm currently working on a Sand Scorcher project as well. I was able to get a used vintage Scorcher for a great price that needed a little TLC. I decided to make it as realistic as possible by designing and 3D printing a lot of components. At this point, I'm really close to being able to finish everything up. Waiting on some good weather so I can paint it and do final assembly. Here's a quick build post I did on Scale Builders Guild. I've done a couple of things since the post, but nothing worthy of an update yet. scalebuildersguild.com/forum/showthread.php?28581-A-realistic-Tamiya-Sand-Scorcher I'm also working on a realistic build of a P407 as well. I'll have to get a post on SBG for it soon as well.

Hi, Really enjoyed watching all the videos on this build. I will be getting one this year (never managed 1st time round as parents couldn't afford it) Love a lot of the mods you did BUT why did you not fit the Ball Diff upgrade. I'm just researching and trying to find out for when i get mine.
@HobbyconceptsLLC

you would not need to cut the servo brackets if you mounted in line with the front arm. rather than an angle.
@HobbyconceptsLLC
@HobbyconceptsLLC 5 лет назад
I wanted to keep the servo far off to the side so I can fit my driver figure and seat better. Working on that now, video soon.

Can't wait to see how yours turns out. I bought one of these several years ago but haven't gotten around to building it. I wanted to use those aluminum wheels like yours but they don't seem to be available anymore. For the scale engine, I may be getting this one from Shapeways: www.shapeways.com/product/ME9493VCB/scale-engine-replica-for-tamiya-sand-scorcher-and. I have the Tamiya Ball Differential Set, P/N 84113 and sport tuned black motor although I also have one of their vintage gold performance motors.

The ball diff is a find - they are hard to come by now days. My guess is the aluminum wheels will be back soon.

Alloy wheel are not difficult to find, full alloy wheel you can get from rcchannel and alloy wheels cap can find from ebay easily.
