Jags could have easily won this game if not for the turnovers. Monumental win for the Patriots at the time who were 4 years removed from being a complete laughing stock.
RogueGust From the 1-15 Rod Rust Pat Season, right down to the 2-14 1992 season, after 1985 it took a while for New England to get back into form. And after the 5-11 1993 Patriots season, after half way starting 1-11,you can tell a turn of the tide started in New England.
A true HOF player who doesn’t get enough recognition for his career. Maybe because he’s so quiet? I dunno. Bill Parcells didn’t overlook his ability and brought him to New York when he got the chance. Curtis Martin was super consistent and super durable. He missed 3 of 160 games in his first 10 seasons and 1 of them was a meaningless week 17 game that he missed to rest for the playoffs. He had between 1,450-1,750 yards from scrimmage in 8 of his first 10 seasons. He had 1,833 in 2001 and 1,942 in 2004. He ran for a career high 1,697 yards and won his only rushing title in his 10th season in 2004. He fumbled just 29 (0.0069%) times and lost only 16 (0.0038%) of them in 4,221 touches during his career. He was durable, reliable, and effective every year without exception. That’s the definition of a hall of fame player.
As a Jaguars fan, this is also how I remember Curtis Martin as a Patriot. Everyone says Fred Taylor was Adrian Peterson before Adrian Peterson came into the league, but I always compared him to Curtis Martin, also all 3 of them wore number 28.
Scooter Mcgruder? Natrone Means? Man there were great names. I forgot about Scooter, I think Natrome came from the Chargers? Watched this game live. Parcells yelling at Bledsoe was just the way it was. Chris Slade. Ted Johnson. Big Play Clay. Shawn Jefferson covers more yards in one step than we will ever do. Lanky speedy receiver. Really fun game for die-hard suffering Pats fans.
Dan Patrick ! But years later Boston Mayor Thomas Mennino refered to Vinatieri as "Jason Varitek" (Red Sox player). Poor Adam is like Rodney Dangerfield. No respect at all.
11 years after one of the greatest cinderella runs ever the Patriots return to the Super Bowl, which is once again held in New Orleans like the previous one they played in.
too bad the jags couldn't pull this one off, this was one of their very few chances at going to a super bowl, it would've been cool to see them against the packers, super bowl 31 was the first super bowl I watched exclusively alone and loved it, no outside distractions, it didn't disappoint, but still, the jags would've been fun to watch, instead of the stupid patriots, we all would get an @$$full of them in multiple super bowls in the two decades plus following, more than any of us non pats fans could stomach
dan patrick sucks here lol was he a rookie reporter here? he talked about a fumble way before it happened on screen, he couldn't pronounce vinateiri correctly lol
The 1999 AFC Championship really surprised me. That one I suspected hurt more? Maybe not because at 12 your emotional ties to a team are as strong as they’ll ever be.
@@jamesgurksnis4392 I mean, not really. 1988...Chicago. 1991...Washington. 1993...Dallas. 1995...Dallas. It was more because no West Coast teams hosted in the AFC during that stretch.
For a low profile team thats rarely on prime time, their history isn’t that bad I must say. Three afc championship appearance since their birth in 1995, real impressive. Their 1999 season was the best of all time. The very same year where they murdered the Fins 62-7 and sent Dan Marino to the retirement home, but unfortunately lost to the titans. The only team the jags could not beat that year (all three losses vs them) 🤦🏽🤦🏽🤦🏽🤦🏽
Little did they know the freight train awaiting them two weeks later. I admit Patriots put up a good fight against the Packers, but Green Bay was just too damn good in 96'.
Patriots gave Green Bay a run for their money. It was 27-21 in the third and then Desmond Howard runs one back 99 yards and claimed the MVP of the game, as without Howard’s 244 yards, Patriots just might’ve pulled it out. Favre might not of gotten a ring without Howard’s miracles. Favre really was somewhat of choker after 1996.
Agree! Jags too (I like the block numbers the Jags had here, the ones they switched to a few years later were always hard to read the numbers on the non-HD tvs back then, to me)
