This game kinda encapsulates what I imagine when I think of the 01-04 Patriots. Bad weather, a methodical offense led by Brady, and a Payton Manning MVP year getting smashed by great defense
@TheLocalLt
@TheLocalLt 4 года назад
Aaron Beaulieu yea the offense changed a lot in 2004 though. Brady had his breakout game 2 weeks after this in the Carolina super bowl when he threw for 358/3TD. And in 04 they ran a run-first play-action offense, instead of the checkdown-heavy spread offense they ran in 01-03. The main reason for this was acquiring Corey Dillon. Instead of throwing checkdowns, Brady was now throwing play-action bombs downfield to the flag/post, and on deep overs and ins. After his breakout game in the Panthers SB, Brady led the NFL in deep ball completion % in 2004, then won the 05 NFL Passing Title. So I would say this vid right here was the last ever game of “game manager Tom”.

And this game was one of the first turning points to the offensive friendly soft penalty filled era that we are currently in. Colts cried about the Pats mugging their receivers in this game, so the NFL made PI rules much stricter. No coincidence that the very next year Peyton broke the TD record and passing offenses as a whole went to new levels
@jaymac508
@jaymac508 4 года назад
Troy Mathis three plays in a row the Pats should of been flagged...blows to the head, and I like seeing defense. Pollard was held a few times. Colts shot themselves way to much in the foot to cry wolf about refs but as a fan of the game, not of either of these teams, the Pats got away with some illegal shit no doubt

jaymac508 blows to the head weren’t illegal back then

Troy Mathis unecessary roughness was a thing back then. It just wasn’t called nearly to the degree it is today. Calls were clearly missed in this game. I’m not a Colts fan crying for flags, it’s just a fact. They also had 5 turnovers so they didn’t deserve to win anyway. That hit on Reggie Wayne was definitely illegal and should of been called...the others were suspect and pollard was held clearly...of course Pats fans will say otherwise
@KiloMafia9

to me, this was the game that began the Patriots Dynasty. If i remember , manning had not thrown a pick in 2 or 3 games before this and indy had not punted in 2 games and were virtually unstoppable. For the Pats to come out dominant indy like this and go on to win the super bowl against a super strong Panthers. After the Pats beat the Eagles the next year, thats when I started to aspect a SB win every year.

As a Raider's fan my favorite memories of Peyton was watching his slice up the Chucky and the Buccs Tampa-2 defense the year after we died in the SB. That was fun to watch the Bucc's ship sink, of course our ship has been sunk since 2002 but it was still nice to watch.

I'm a Bills fan but I thought the Raiders were really on the brink of greatness in 2016 when they finished 12-4 and made the playoffs. I thought they were the only AFC team that had a shot to knock of the Patriots that year until Derek Carr broke his leg near the end of the season. Hiring Gruden and giving him $100 million over 10 years was a colossal mistake by Mark Davis after Gruden didn't coach for 10 years and was mediocre at best his last 6 years in Tampa. That was Tony Dungy's Bucs team that he built that won the Super Bowl at the end of the 02 season. Once all Dungy's guys started leaving Gruden was unable to replace any of them.
