Serving with Combat Command A of the 3rd Armored. Pool and his crew (his"pups" as he referred to them) which he would keep for his career, would account for 270 kills including 12 tanks and also bag 250 prisoners. In 81 days of combat operations Sergeant Pool and his crew would go through no fewer than three tanks.
The First a M4A1 75mm in service 23-29 June 1944 was knocked out by multiple Panzerfaust hits. His second Sherman a M4A1 76mm in service 1 July - 17 August 1944 was destroyed by friendly fire from a P38 Lightening. His Final Sherman was another M4A1 76mm in service which according to some sources was knocked out by a hull down Panther on the Siegfried Line on the evening of the 15 September 1944. Though Pool himself will recollect the destruction of his tank and wounding that would cost him his leg credited to a 88mm flak concealed in a barn. It is unclear with information available to me which is true.
In my tribute to this largely overlooked Tank Ace we will be building Pool's second Sherman. Using Dragons 1/35 M4a1 76mm/W to create representation of Pool's third Sherman "In the Mood "
