Hey Buddy; I'll start off by saying that I thoroughly enjoy your videos. However; can you please stop using the "C" word. Your audience includes not just adults, but there are children watching your show also, at least in my household. Thank You.
I appreciate you bringing that up but at the same time this is an adult Channel and I'm not here to be censured by anybody I will keep that in mind but I'm not changing what I do just because somebody is displeased with a specific way that I say something
I love how you clean up all the parts on the new shortblock. Shows so much respect for the customer. I wish the world was like this. I hope the customer appreciates the effort.
Nice Rich, must feel good man. I am in the process of building a 2018 transit 3.5L eco boost right now. Had 4 oil changes in 72k miles, nothing but a sludgefest. Turbos gone, phasers gone, low oil pressure and knocking. Tore engine down and found #1, #2 and #6 rod bearings spun. The #2 and #3 main bearings were in the process of getting welded to the crank so they had damage on the inside but didn't spin so the block is good. Timing solenoid screens and the turbo oil supply screens completely clogged. Getting new crank, intake cams and valve tappets, timing components, 3 connecting rods, all new bearings, oil cooler, a melling high volume oil pump and a new ring kit for the #6 piston, the lower oil control ring was broken. Should be ready this week, parts have been a nightmare to obtain. Moral of the story is CHANGE YOUR OIL FOLKS, every 5000 miles or less.
Another great 1.5 EcoBoost video thanks again for all the info you give us owners of that motor I wouldn't of done half the work on my car if it wasn't because of you and your video thanks again rich aka the ford boss
Great job! Nothing wrong with taking your time. This way you don't miss something that could result in a comeback. You went back and reinstalled that clamp. A lot of techs would have just went to the parts counter and got another clamp. Thanks for the tip on that front crank seal. I can see where it would be easy to roll that seal lip. Have a nice relaxing evening with the family.
Hey thanks for what you do my vehicle is in the shop to replace the short block and your video helped me to understand what was going on. Thanks alot and keep on doing what you do blessings to you as well❤😊
You ever had an ecoboost come in that after heavy acceleration and you let off the gas suddenly, it gives a quick rattle/knock/clicking noise for a second or two? Otherwise it never makes the noise. Love your videos!
What happens of it jumped 4 tooths on the fly wheel... it wouldn't lock and after I tried to it jumped and no my car won't start... how do I retime the bottom end... anything would help
What program do you use to get all the specs? I have been working on the 1.5 fusion and can’t find a good manual so I have been watching all your vids but would love a good program for vehicle specs. I am a shade tree mechanic and never have all the resources when I need it.
Geez...seeing that lil 4 banger out and that bare...reminds me we're trying to sell a water pump on a '13 Flex...seriously considering doing it...the easy way.
Didn’t realize that they had a timing belt on that engine? Is it an “interference” engine? What is the recommended replacement interval? And how difficult is it to do with the engine in the car?
You ever had an issue with the oil pan? I thought somebody had been into my engine before me and cleaned the pan with a grinder. Couldn't get a full seal and ordered a new pan. The new pan had the same exact markings on it.
The phasers positions actually don't matter. It's the rear ends of the camshafts which indeed need to be lined up as you've tested with that cam bridge and those should be synchronized only with the accessory belt pulley. It's even logic that it doesn't matter how the phasers are in relation with the other 2 elements, because they have no position sensors anyway, only the advance actuation solenoids which also do not care of nor read the position of the phasers and only apply a given amount of advance.
So I got into my motor and watched your videos after I may have made a mistake. I tilted my head and three of the buckets fell out. It looks like gravity and physics landed them in order. What would you recommend on doing? is there a way to measure the buckets or what?
replacing my engine in the next few day, thank you for all your videos. A few questions when you have time. read that the rear crossmember/subframe bolts should be replaced (one time use). just want to verify what other items/gasket/seal do you recommend replacing? any other one time use bolts or items. thanks. when you have a chance would you do some 2.0L ecoboost. I do see alot of 1.5L ecoboost. seem like the 1.5L are a bit more problematic. According to Ford Motor Corp my 2017 2.0L with 61114 miles is not one of the affected engines with the coolant leak. So with your Formation on replacing the engine with a new long block from ford. THANK YOU
If you Google 2.0 L EcoBoost coolant intrusion you're going to actually find the technical service bulletin and there's a complete parts list that goes along with it
One of my mistakes while i was in engine rebuilding class was when i didnt paid extra attention the unit of measure. I was torquing down a thin bolt to 15 ft-lbs. I didn't feel resistance......the values on the digital screen kept fluctuating 12 and 13 then all of a sudden..... *POP----CRACK* the whole class and teacher stopped and looked at me as if i just punched someone. I came to realize that the bolt spec was 15 INCH-LBS. Which it then made very clear to me....🤣
Thanks for the video. This motor does not use diamond friction washers on the cam and crank due to the crank not being keyed and cams not having dowels?
I have an unrelated question. What's the 90 weight synthetic oil life that going in the PTU on AWD 3.7L MKZ & the same oil for the RDU the reason I separated those 2 units is because the PTU PACKED IN 3 SOURCES OF HEAT - I've had 2 guys from my facebook group and a Fusion group have rear differential noise - Ford says not to change the rear until 50k for piece of mind I had my RDU done at 31,000 miles & the oil had begun to oxidize. What does your experience tell you about servicing the AWD Fusion and MKZ. When these cars came out they claimed lifetime fluid for th AWD which my brain said yeah sure. I'd like to see if my gut is close to your knowledge base. I also don't fix my own car the dealership does Thanks
@@FordBossMe I was thinking 10k for the PTU and 30 for the RDU. $60 About to change the PTU fluid is better than possibly waiting for a new part these days. Depending on the state of the synthetic oil I may increase the PTU to 20k
Hey big man did the same job on 2017 fusiion replaced head and everything did the proper procedures but customer wanted to use standard parts phasers not ford and vct soleniods as well. Went to start car and has p0012 and p0014 and will not start said phaser over retartded. Any suggestions and i had rec fird parts and qhat shoukd i be looking at and all parts are new. Any help would be appreciated
You're going to have to go back and look at your timing make sure you put all your timing tools incorrectly at the crank stop in the back make sure you have your crank position timing tool set when you torque your crank pulley down make sure both of the dots on the VCT phasers are pointed up and the timing tool fits and make sure cylinder one is at top dead center or just before it and then you're going to have to put the cambrige back on the backside of the cam to lock those in you're going to have to redo your timing
Hello, do you happen to have a list of the torque specs for the head bolts, cams, cam phasers, crank pulley, etc? Doing a headgasket on my 2015 1.5 ecoboost
Hey man so I've taken on one of these jobs and I'm in desperate need of the specs I've managed to pull the head off in place and now will be needing to reinstall soon once my new head arrives please if you can assist me I'd be truly grateful
Just email me if you need help but I have the specs here on this channel I've already done the work with them out so people have it Poissorichard.rp@gmail.com
Great video bud very helpful, but have you every seen the same engine development a bad came lob for the high pressure fuel tap go bad? 150k 2017 escape awd. Never seen this before but I just pulled the cam and wow. Any thoughts?
Oh yeah it should be a maintenance item there's a flat topic bucket that goes underneath the high pressure pump and eventually it ends up wearing out sometimes it's because of lack of Maintenance other times it's just because it wears out and it should be changed about every 75,000 miles but Ford doesn't tell people that
Intelligent people use language. All of it. If I didn't cuss at stuff, nothing would get fixed. Hell, I invent new cuss words half the time. Mechanic life.
@@FordBossMe I would want the turbo to remain. What are the differences between the 1.5 Liter 4 cylinder and 2.0 liter 4 cylinder Ecoboost engines? Is it just the bore and stroke? Different turbochargers and injectors and intakes? Was just thinking about parts shortages. Say the customer had the 1.5 with coolant leaks and a 2.0 short block was available immediately verses a couple months wait for the 1.5 short block
What’s the short block labor time on one of these? And is there any extra time you get to add on with all the additional stuff you gotta do in the process or is the book time for a short block the total ticket time?
I'm having a problem with the same engine I had to put a water pump on it and my timing belt had move and I do not know how to put it back please cuz someone point me in the right direction for I can get this done😢😢
@@FordBossMe I come from Poland, I drive a mondeo 1.6 ecoboost, according to the mechanic, ecoboost engines should have 5w30 oil instead of 5w20. This makes the engine more resistant to high operating temperatures
I forgot to put that cam lock tool while removing the water pump! Now the intake cam is like 3 teeth to the right. How can I get that back to the 11 o clock position?
🇺🇸🔧🔩⚓🔩🔧🇨🇦.....Impressive the architecture & design of Ford Motor Company's trademark fuel efficient/optimized Ecoboost engines 1.5 L on this one check, ideal during times of rising petroleum prices/inflation.....
I hope you are making at least 100k a year messing with this junk. I've been close to 100k the last couple years and never have to deal with nightmares like this. Unfortunately today I have ran into one of these hunks of junk. And after seeing how much bs and complications with all the timing tools needed. Im going to tell my advisor we are replacing the engine. I will never ever do a job like this again. There are so many things that can be done to flag 20 to 30hrs doing this shit job. Great vids. Like I said hipe you are at least 100k more like 150 to 200k messing with fords all day. I try to stay away from any ford nowadays don't like them. I would rather work on bmw, range rover, Mercedes, anything but a Ford!!!
