Thanks for this video. Was wondering if it was something else wrong with my car. If you can have a dedicated videos for The EP6 engines it will be appreciated cos this engine seems delicate hence requires in depth knowledge on what to expect from it
You should look into the Mini community. This engine is somewhat popular there, they know pretty much everything about it. Peugeot and BMW stepped back from this engine because the problems it had overcame the eventual costs for abandoning it. Is there anything you would like to know about this engines maintenance?
I'm thinking of buying a car with a 1.6THP engine producing 165HP. The car is maintained every 10K kilometers and currently has 96K kilometers and the timing chain itself was recently replaced. I ofc would do annual service to the car or 10K kilometers as recommended but my question is, if its even worth the "hussle" the reputation of the Prince engine itself. The car itself is a DS3 which is really rare where I live and its fairly cheap for its competitors which is why im thinking about it from the start. I'm not afraid from its routine maintenance but my question is if theres anything I should be "afraid of" with this engine? Thanks!
Of the timing chain was replaced you don't really have much to worry about in terms of reliability. Ask the seller how the camshafts are looking - those engines are known to develop scoring on them, and replacing them is costly. The things you will be replacing annually are probably the camshaft position sensors and valve cover gaskets. Also, when buying, take a look at the place where the engine and transmission meet - the crankshaft seal is very susceptible to leaking due to age, and replacing it is a bit of a bitch in a Peugeot - donno how about in the DS3. If you see any leaks there, that's a good reason to ask for a significant discount. They are good engines, just need a bit of preventive maintenance.
Excellent video, my 207 GTI occasionally has a start up rattle when i don't use it for a few days, a couple of Mechanics said complete timing chain kit replacement, ridiculous price, how long does this replacement take please? It's worth a try as just found tensioners are available separately
I see online people say 1.6 vti timing chain every ten years or 80,000 - 120,000 Miles Mine is 13 years old and on about 85,000 miles and is sounding rattly, so I'm trying to decide to I do a whole timing chain and vti kit, or just change tensioner as in video, but as I may keep the car for 2-4 more years or so. I may just do the full lot
