For sure! I used to get the rubber blunt tips for about a dollar each. Now any of the small game tips are too expensive. When you let an arrow fly it's like watching a ten dollar bill fly away... Just hope to keep from losing them! The wire one i made is much stiffer than a paper clip.Thank you for your comments, John.
I don't currently have a video showing the arrows being shot with this as a tip. I plan to do a video hunting some grouse with it, just haven't got to it yet. Thank you for your question, John.
Washers work great! I actually took it one step further I ground down the point on the field tip. Now it's like a Mike Tyson punch, no pass through, only minimal penetration, tons of kinetic energy!
+Johnny Wishbone Thank you for watching and your comments. I have to ask what pound bow you are shooting to get a pass though with a washer? I draw 80 lbs on my bow and never get a pass through with washer. So, unless you are pulling a crazy amount, your washer must be too small? But, I totally get what you are saying you did there, by grinding the tip of a field tip it would make it much like the tip on a judo point.
My washers were too small. I was shooting a Bear Charge at 60 lbs on a 26.5" draw. After grinding the tip down it was a bit more manageable. I came up with another idea today using a #8 screw, a washer ,and a small plastic bead to protect the shaft and hold the washer firm. soon my deer season will be over and i will reduce my draw weight down to 40-45 lbs, and it will be all good. I subscribed to your channel.
Johnny Wishbone The bolt and washer idea is a good one, I just wonder about the weight of the bolt/washer. You wouldn't want it to be less weight than whatever grain tip you normally shoot is, as it could mess with arrow flight. A little heavier on the tip is less likely to mess with arrow flight, you just have to compensate for a little drop. If the bolt & washer comes very close to the grains normally shot, even better! Thank you for your reply and your support.
Great Tip on the Bird Tip...have to try this out. Better than Stabbing a piece of Wood (cut down sapling 1") in tip. lol. Cheers. Ty for posting, have a great day!!
If you are talking about shooting an animal out of a tree... You risk loosing that arrow no matter what tip you have on the end. I have shot this set up many times and have not had it stick in a tree yet... Thank you for your comments and for watching, John.
For a 3- pack of 125 grain, small game heads Cabela's Canada charges thirty-five bucks (CDN) plus shipping. I think I'll try a washer along with bullet point instead. Thanks for the idea!
True, but they would be less durable. And, the weight of a penny or washer doesn't affect the arrow flight much at 20 yards or less. depending on the bow power, you just aim a few inches higher, John.
great idear buddy I'll be using that 2day was gonna buy judo points but done it with a 2p I'm from Belfast. I lv that tip bud cuss not much big game over here I've a ghost 410 it's a bit powerfull for stuff here will that stop the bolt going throw chum.
CommonSenseOutdoors, I greatly appreciate that you reply very quickly to any comments, and you've got me backyard squirrel hunting with my bow (: Got a shot at a nice one but missed /: I will get em next time
Mechanical broad heads have the downside of one time use also. I also know a fair amount regular broadheads have the same downside. I guess it’s all about personal opinion on use of space. Your design also works good as a decocking bolt for crossbows.
5/16 steel washers ( 8 for 15 cents are the best tips. I tried all other sizes and they worked well and so did 3/16 fine thread screws and washers, they make really tough blunt tips with no penetration... They hit like a Tyson punch!
i think that when you use the feild tip with a washer and you r shooting in to a tree it may get stuck in a thick branch with a compound bow so i would just stick with the blunts
You could get some hex head bolts same thread as the insert and use those as points. Put a nut on for lockdown. You could even vary the weight with more hex nuts.
Only a little wrong,,, you can legally deface coins as long as u never put them back incirculation. They become useless with the exception of the small game arrow tip!!!!! Other than that another great video......
polishpicl this depends were your from. it is illegal in the UK to deface the queens head or destroying a modern UK currency coin. here is tha act 'The Coinage Act 1971 made it an offence to destroy a metal coin that has been current in the UK since 1969, unless a licence to do so has been granted by the Treasury' 😉
Lets say you used your homemade slingbow from the other video.. If you used the tips that dont penetrate deep does that just increase the chance of a non lethal injury causing you to have to hunt down and finish the animal or will the draw be enough?
Divergent Droid Even the slingbow I showed is plenty to take small game with this as a tip. With small game a blunt force blow is better than a pass through shot. The blunt force hit puts them down and out, a pass through shot almost always involves animal recovery (tracking). Small game is very hard to track after a pass through shot. A proper shot with this on a squirrel or bird is a kill shot.Thank you for watching and your question.
Pretty cool...i made a couple and hit some squirrels the only bad part is that it whistles when it flies...but no need for shooting small game at lond distance
The bluntness of a washer has little to no effect on an arrows flight at short range shots of 20 yards or less. This is no different than a commercially made rubber blunt tip for small game hunting. Thank you for watching.
1 I like the video. I always get a kick out of you wheel bow start doing diy stuff. 2 where in the law book does it say it is illegal to deface money for use as something else? What is illegal is to then attempt to pass that piece of metal as money. Basically you can do whatever you to money as long as you don't, then try to buy something with it.
Dude you efin rock! Showed us the trick, legitimized your video's title, yet didn't deface the only decent U.S. currency we have left! Sooooo making the washer version!
Did the washer cause you to loose them? Would you have not lost them with a five dollar blunt tip? Just curious, it sounds like you are blaming the fact that you lost rabbits on the washer. Would love to hear more, John.
