Think hitting a squirrel in the top of a tree with only a recurve or longbow and arrow is impossible? Think again! These three friends have been doing it for years on public hunting lands in northeast Oklahoma.
When i was a kid i loved watching those old western movies that had Indians in them with my grandfather.. never cared for the cowboys but those Indians.. i felt a connection with them and wanted to hunt just like them. So I took my little pocket knife and started to make my own stick bows.. and the rest was history.. now I'm trying to inspire my son in traditional/ primitive archery!
I love going out squirreling but the worst thing is when you leave the house there on the streets everywhere and then when you get to the woods you hardly see any. On my profile pic that was the day after deer season was over in North Carolina I'm from UK I was squirreling then didn't get nothing lol that was enjoyable to watch good vid...
nice video..brought back some good memories of my dad and I hunting small game..I used a Fred Bear bow he bought me..I practiced almost every day shooting..he didn't believe I could shoot rabbits and squirrels..I proved him wrong..but he was so proud. :) thanks for the video. :)
great video. seems like you boys have a lot of fun together! I do a lot of squirrel hunting with a bow, have you tried going without the dogs? most of the shots I take are squirrels on trees around 6 feet or less from the ground. I'm thinking the dogs are making them run for the tops for safety. just curious.
+Ronin survivor We do so much better with dogs because we can cover a lot more area and the dogs help keep the squirrels from jumping to the ground. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Great video!! I hunted (and just got back into hunting) squirrels for years with a recurve bow and managed to bag 35 reds and greys over those years. I have to admit that if I had a dollar for every arrow that I lost during that time, I would be a wealthy man. I just turned 60 and the lure of hunting squirrels with my primate bow has captured me again. I ran across a Howard Hill 'BIg Five' longbow (53#) and I'm out there again chasing squirrels. I wish I had been filming my hunts (check out my channel for filming techniques and camcorder systems I have designed and sell) all those years. I have a Tachyon camcorder mounted to the brim of my hunting cap and it allows me to shoot without having to mess with the camcorder....
Do you guys use instinctive/intuitive aiming, or do you use a system like gap shooting or something similar? I want to go small game hunting with my recurve this summer, and I am wondering if I should learn gap shooting or if instinctive can be accurate enough. Anyway, thanks for the fun video! I enjoyed watching you guys :)
No, not really. A compound is more accurate but a recurve or longbow can be shot more quickly. Also the arrows don't go as far with the recurve and longbow so they are easier to find.
Around 9:10 the guy with the squirrel hangs his bow on his quiver strap somehow. Anyone know how he's doing that? Is that a feature of that quiver, an addon, or is he just improvising on some existing part of the strap that wasn't necessarily meant for that?
Just use a contact squirrel call works amazing can get it on slot of diff apps but ya gota use the rite call. Dont use the squeeks too much use the contact call
