It’s a 90%/10% mix, so if this video followed the fad formula it would take for 50 seconds and give tutorial for 10 except it would be a bad useless one.

Simple an effective :) I see that you use .jpg for this. I would recommend using RAW image-files when possible. That way you have even more flexibility fine-tuning your b&w image :) I would imagine this teqhnicue works well enough on portraitd etc with little to no gradiens. But a landscape b&w with clear sky could suffer greatly rendering in .jpg :) Bit-depth is also a major factor when it comes to gradients.

Great video, thanks Unmesh! I’d love to see tips on re-creating filters in Photoshop... in particular, I love the “Dramatic” filter in iOS but since you can’t adjust the intensity, I’d love to be able to recreate it myself in Photoshop and make it a preset. Any tips on how to asses what adjustments need to be made when recreating a filter would be SO appreciated!

Definitely not one of my preferred ways to create a black & white image (completely lacking by way of manipulating and controlling the various color channels), but for those not familiar with calculations it’s worthwhile getting a better understanding of the possibilities. Cheers!
