My Volvo turned 212,000 miles last night (I'm a rideshare driver). No leaks, doesn't skip a beat, and the AWD enabled me to stay out during snowpocalypse. I added nearly 1000 miles over 5 days on ice covered roads getting people where they needed to go safely and comfortably. Everyone asked me what my "Total beast of a car with heated REAR seats" was. I proudly answered "A 2012 Volvo XC60, the best car I've ever owned!" Sidenote: If a mechanic doesn't know much about a certain car, it's probably pretty good.

@Sound Sleep I’ve smelled cars for years (no pun intended) and I can tell you the best smelling car interiors are 1990’s Toyota’s & early 2000’s ones. They have this mix between coconut & clay smell that’s really nice. Absolutely delicious. But the best part about that is that Toyota smell lasts a LONG time. I’ve gone to the junkyard and 30 year old Toyota Pickups with 300,000 miles STILL have that nice smell, if they haven’t been smoked in. But BY FAR the BEST smelling car I’ve ridden in is my uncle’s low mileage 2005 Matrix base. It has that smell but with a little bit of flavour, best I can describe is somebody mixed oxyclean with coconut flavour vape juice. Apparently that was what 9th gen Corollas and 1st Gen Matrixes new smell was back in the day. I know this is a goofy & absurd topic but just saying from experience.

13:49 - Can confirm that feature works as intended in the 850. Was hit directly in the side by a another car at an estimated speed of 70 km/t in my old 850 T5. I walked away with a sore body and few cuts on my hand from the window glass.

A manual 850R would be the wagon to get. They ran the 850 wagon in touring car racing to make a statement and it had better aero. The 240 turbo wagon is still my favorite.

I’ve only bought one 850 in my 21 years of Volvo’s , when the speedometer gear breaks most cheap Volvo people don’t replace . So you have to hope the mileage is accurate . This is a nice example of the platinum.

Pearl white, trunk lid spoiler, headlight wiper blades, sunroof, yes ---- loaded with all the bells and whistles. October 2023, we took it on a two week road trip to the Grand Canyon. 3,200 plus miles. It performed flawless! This car has been worthy of every single mile it's given her family and us!

I own a Swedish book about the development of the Volvo 850, although it was first released in 1991, the development of it started in 1978, which was a bit of a shock to me. It was the biggest step of evolution of any Volvo car, the five cylinder engine, going from rear wheel drive to front wheel, and the massive rear lights. It also had some new patented suspension I remember.

I had a Platinum Edition. A fun driver. Reliable enough except for the leak in the AC evaporator. A common problem for the 850 apparently that Volvo wouldn't admit to and never issued a recall. Expensive to repair since the dash had to come apart.
