Even before watching the video, I'd assume Uncle Chael would say to cut weight.

As someone who is currently in the middle of cutting weight, I completely and wholeheartedly sympathize with those who have retired because of the scale. I long for the days when I can go to practice, train hard for 2 hours and have tons of fun, and just eat whatever I want afterwards when I get home. I think so few people have genuinely starved themselves the way you have too just to make weight that they don’t understand in the slightest how difficult it is to even get there. It’s so easy to assume fighters walk around at the weight they’re supposed to be before weigh in and that just couldn’t be more inaccurate.

There has to be a solution to the weight-cutting problem. As much revenue as the UFC earns, there has to be a scientific (and maybe expensive) way to ensure that fights feature fighters of the same size while removing the incentive to cut weight. I’m sure that since weight classes were invented, there have been tens of thousands of hours spent by qualified people pursuing a better system of classifying fighters by size, only to fail. I just feel like we could finally have the technology to make it where fighters don’t have to cut weight while still giving all competitors a fair fight. And I bring this to you only because of that.

That's the big problem with everybody. Cutting weight to try to get down another weight class. So then they can rehydrate and be bigger than their opponent. All the time, everybody keeps trying to be a weight bully instead of just fighting in their natural weight class. I bet it is a nightmare trying to beat the scale all the time. When that's not your normal weight

There are top fighters who never cut more than 5 lbs of weight, and go out there and fight. Adding 20 lbs after weigh-in doesn't necessarily make you a better fighter It makes you heavier, maybe stronger, but also slower. It's not all peaches and creme If your fighting style is based on speed and quickness, you really shouldn't need to cut. Why are you adding 20 lbs to begin with?

If you do cage side weigh ins with no chance to rehydrate and gain back weight, there would be no need for fighters not to fight at their real training weight and the wouldn’t have to go through those horrible cuts.

Making weight really needs to go. You should have to be at fighting weight 2 weeks out and maintain it. Dehydrating yourself is unnecessary and they could get rid of it if they wanted

There are many reasons fighters retire either they want to be with their family or they want to because maby their old and also some of them retire because they believe they did enough in the sport

Even if that were the case, why wouldn't he have gone up to compete one last time before retiring to round out a 30-0 record?
