nostalgia. i will always remember this historic game. Really thought Fresno State was going to win. wow. during this season no one had ever stepped up to USC they were the Alabama of our time. I was a sophomore in highschool. and this was theee biggest highlight of 2005 college football midseason in the valley, thank the user for posting this. I clearly remember watchin this at my dads co workers house. USC were like the Patriots with Lienart , Bush , white. they broke school records on this game in terms of stats and yardage. No other college fb team had ever given up points and yards until the faced Fresno State.
I was a sophomore in high school as well for this. Was actually there. Maybe one of the best, and def the best live football memory for me from the golden era of CFB
I was a senior, and I had applied to USC so I watched this game. I loved the heart of Fresno State. Ironically I ended up going to Nevada so, I saw way more Fresno State than I would have liked.
USC was asleep the whole game. Fresno State the Alabama of our time? 😂😂😂😂 Wha dream world are you in? It was so clear USC was playing with on hand tied behind their back. USC dominated and was I control the whole game. Go back to that pit you call Fresno. 😅
Looking back in hindsight, this game was an early warning alert that USC was set up to lose the upcoming National Championship game to Texas. The USC defense had been poor all season. This game showed that if a team had an offense that could keep up with USC, they had a chance to win. The Notre Dame game had already exposed this obvious weakness on USC. Texas took full advantage of that weakness and robbed USC of the opportunity to make history by winning three consecutive National Championships in College football.
Yeah when they played Texas they were deer in headlights cause he (VINCE YOUNG ) was a scrambling qb and with an ARM USC NEVER SAW THAT BEFORE in the pac 12.
The next week against a more talented UCLA team the USC defense stepped up. Held No. 12 UCLA to 6 non-garbage-time points. UCLA scored another 13 in the final four minutes of the 4th. That UCLA team had Maurice Jones-Drew and Marcedes Lewis... hardly slouches.
@@derrickwright5728as good as these SC teams were people don’t realize that 05 team was statistically the worst defense under Pete Carroll and it showed against Vince Young. They could’ve had 2 more guys out there and I don’t think they’d be able to stop him.
@@Shaunnyhoward that’s why I get Pete going for it on that 4th down so Texas didn’t get the ball back even though Bush should’ve been in there as a decoy at the very least. Cause Young was scoring regardless whether it was from 60 yards or 99 yards.
1. This was the game film which helped UT win the BCS National Championship. Make SC chase Vince Young all over the place with RPO's. 2. Pat Hill's teams always played hard. Saw Fresno at the 2001 Silicon Valley Bowl against Michigan State (Go Green!). TJ Duckett and Charles Rogers went off. Those were Nick Saban's leftovers. And studs. 3. Barry Tompkins was the voice of late night college football on the East Coast. Especially the 2nd halfs after coming home from the bar with a case of Natty Light for after hours. The cherry on top of college football Saturdays. Thanks Barry and Petro! 4. The first weekend I got to watch after coming home from my 14 month deployment during Operation Iraqi Freedom. My new Lazy Boy. In my new mancave with my 48 inch screen HD television. God Bless America!
@@wandabutler2593 Rogers was a UNANAIMOUS All-American and Biletnikoff award winner. Duckett was a 2x All-Big Ten 2nd team selection. Maybe you should stop watching football if you think they "sucked", because you clearly didn't understand what you were watching.
The line in the stand for Pat Hill's program. Fresno State was never the same after this game. I was a junior living on campus at the time. Watched this with about 50 folks in the Atrium. When Wendell Mathis scored right after Bush's fumble, we REALLY started to think "man, Fresno State might take down the dynasty". But Pinegar made one too many awful throws, the last one costing us a chance at a historic upset.
Fresno stood to toe with the giant till the clock hit zero a lot teams Tht season couldn't even do Tht Arizona state couldn't even do Tht and they were up at halftime by two tds so Tht Fresno state team had a lot of heart never gave up Tht night they played to really win Tht game
Yes They did.. if Pintager wouldn't have screwed up with them INTs..We would of beaten the #1 team and undefeated for 3 years straight years.. and not to mention USC were Destroying Team every game.. Fresno State.. came to play and almost had. Another upset on the USC Trojans..again like in the 1992 Freedom Bowl Fresno State Beat USC 24-7..All in all GREAT FU**EN GAME..
@@Jokey_ThaBossNoTownMusic i can only imagine how far fresno st. would of climbed if they would of won that game not to mention #3 miami lost the week as week. i personally think they would of been in the top 10
@@Jokey_ThaBossNoTownMusic yeah but Pintager also made some good throws to keep the dogs in the game, at the end of the day the better team is the one that leads the overall series .
Being a Fresno State fan for decades... We always start great and go to shit the rest of the season. Losing the rest of the games after this game most likely still would have happened. We were there for the liberty bowl game and it was horrendous play calling 🤣
First usc game I ever watched when I was 6, became I fan ever since and bush is my fav college running back of all time lol greatest football game of all time
This was literally the first game I ever saw of Reggie Bush. I wanted to know what the hype was about and I was early in my love of football. Most dominant running back performance I ever seen. He literally seemed unstoppable. I was so swayed I completely dismissed Adrian Peterson as even close to his talent(which was stupid). But still to me the best college rb ever seen.
Adrian Peterson was quite talented as well & certainly had a better pro career than Bush. I agree that Bush at the collegiate level was a force but again, he had a lot of offensive talent that surrounded him, more so than Adrian Peterson at OU.
Anthony G. Idk about that one. The big 12 defenses were still trash even back then in addition to the bulk of the talent residing in Texas and Oklahoma.
Fresno State was the toast of college football after this game for almost beating this great SC team - but they seemed to let the publicity go to their heads and would amazingly go 1-11 over their next 12 games. And their program would never get anywhere near this level again.
@ Edward Richardson-Reggie Bush was a candidate for the Heisman the year before he won when Vince Young wasn't. Vince Young did not have a big enough body of work that Reggie Bush had. Vince Young had 2 to 3 games that season where he got off to a slow start versus Reggie Bush only having 1 game in two season where had a slow start. Vince Young has an average season the year before. Now, Vince Young was super talented, after all you have to look at it this fact too; Vince was not a finalist/All-American and did not have Heisman number in 2004 , but Reggie Bush did and was an All-American that helped lead his Heisman winning Quarterback win the national championship. Vince Young was super talented and he should have stayed at least one more season because had he stayed Troy Smith would not have won the Heisman that next year. Love it or hate it Bush earned that Heisman that year. Had Vince Young stayed Texas would've had another title and solidified his case for the Heisman that year. Look at the numbers!!!
I like watching this video. it was such a great game. a couple of stops on Bush and Fresno would have won. could have should have right? well 2022 we are going back again this time we have a time thats gonna light up the score board.
Cannot believe the commentator when announcing the starting D for SC saying "there are just no holes in it". Must of been another D I watched get lit up most of that season including this game..particularly compared to the 02,03, and 04 editions.
Randy Dubin that D laid the foundation for what was one of the best defenses in college football history though. I agree that pertros goes into homer mode quite a bit though.
Yea I think USC LB depth was weaker. They lost starting OLB Dallas Sartz who in my opinion was a very underrated player and leader of the defense. His backup Thomas Williams also was lost for the season meaning Brian Cushing who should have been 3rd string was forced into the starting lineup. Don’t get me wrong he was talented and played well for them but losing Dallas and Williams hurt their depth. Dallas Sartz was good enough to get drafted by the Washington Football team in the 4th round after coming back for a redshirt season the following year. When you lose a starter on your defense that’s good enough to get drafted that’s a big blow even for a program like SC who had a lot of future NFL players on their roster.
Uhhh, that is because they lost All American DT Shaun Cody All American DT Mike Patterson All American MLB Lofa Tatupu All American OLB Matt Grootegoed From the 2004 Squad. No team can lose 4 All American at the DT, MLB, and OLB positions and not be suspect.
Papawill13 don’t forget OLB Dallas Sartz who was very underrated as a starter was also injured in the first or second game of the season vs Hawaii. He was a captain and great leader. He was a good tackler decent rusher and pretty good in coverage being a former safety in high school. Losing him hurt SC’s defense. Thomas Williams was Dallas backup he also got hurt so Brian Cushing was a 3rd stringer who had no choice but to be put into the lineup. SC’s LB depth was definitely dealt a blow.
If usc DBS were a little but faster they would have had a decent defense they would have beaten Texas in the title instead of being up by 12 with 5 mins to go and the usc defense let vince score rediculous
Yea there defense is the reason why usc lost that 3rd straight national title. The offense got them up by 12 with 5 minutes to go and the defense just gave up. Smh
Actually no its not there was sequences in Tht game Tht caused a loss Reggie bush Tryin to flip it to his teammate when he shouldnt have we had the lead n momentum in scoring position to go up 3 scores and Reggie tried to much instead of just be tackled Texas d couldn't stop us and Reggie fucked us n then the refs missing the call when Vince knee was down before he tossed the ball to his rb for a td can't blame it on defense there was just sequences Tht lost us the game
Thornsx2, thank you for uploading these usc games. Do you have any other games from 03, 04, or 05? I would greatly appreciate it if you could upload Oregon usc 2005 and/or any game you have from 2003. Thanks
Because I'm Japanese-American, I HATE Rudy Carpenter! I LOVED this one Thanksgiving game, where Rudy Carpenter got beaten up and LITERALLY bloodied by USC defenders!!
USC was playing below Fresnos ability to make it a game. Half of the USC players during the game were nodding off. Fresno made it a game only because USC let them. In the end, USC gets the boring win.
Thank you uploading this. Fresno State would have won this game save for USC using an illegal paid player (Reggie Bush), Wait, we did win the game as USC ended up having to forfeit all the games Bush played in.
NO you fuckin LOST, Bush was not an illegal player they got screwed by the ncaa because his agent was unethical. just be thankful to stay competitive in the WAC
I remember watching this game as a kid and thinking that Reggie Bush wasn't human. This is one of the better games of the last 20 years that never gets talked about or mentioned. An all-time great USC team got pushed to the brink by a senior laden Fresno St team with 0 NFL talent.
The game that won Reggie Bush his Heisman Trophy THAT SHOULD'VE GONE TO Vince Young BUT he got the last laugh by beating Reggie Bush & USC in the Rose Bowl for the national championship #truth
Bullshit. Fresno State was equipped to play them offensively. They didn't get cute, they had physical receivers and a great o-line. Pinegar's interceptions doomed Fresno State, not USC.
You MUST know this about me, to understand where, when and how I grew up: Born in Seattle in 1973, where I grew up. Washington, Oregon and Oregon State fan. I HATE Pat Hill!! How DARE a White guy be a complainer to the referees! White people have NO right to act like that! I also hate Fresno State, because they beat up Washington, Oregon and Oregon State. Now, if Pat Hill coached Washington, Oregon or Oregon State, I would LOVE him. I'm ordering a FRESNO STATE 13 VINEGAR jersey.
did you guys know Reggie Bush was ineligible that year and his Heisman Trophy was revoked and all their there wins became the losses so Fresno State won this game
They did Tht boulshit because his parents accepted gifts so they punished him instead of his parents and the ncaa was after USC cuz they didn't want USC to be the top dog so tried to find anything
