Came across this video randomly and come to find out I’m the first opponent from the competition! That was my first tournament as well and I remember us talking to each other in the bullpen both being pretty nervous! Much respect to both of you! Austin was a dope dude and great competitor! Oss 🤙🤙
As someone who started training BJJ/MMA 6 months ago and had only practiced TKD before, I can confirm that grappling has many benefits that you don't find in other martial arts and sports. Also, inviting friends and having good sparing partners makes training very fun. I wish you all a very enjoyable grappling journey.
@@shibramchannel9371 Yes, they are more common in BJJ, but to prevent them you need to know when to tap, recognize your limits, and have a good coach. But honestly, in all martial arts there is always the risk of injury
Hello brother, I am also involved in TKD sports, but my passion for wrestling has started to prevent me from doing TKD anymore. Would it be beneficial for us to start BJJ and show ourselves in this branch? I would be happy if you could tell me your thoughts oss
Or 3: You get injured and stop against your will. What an awesome story and video. Not a single person I know who "needs" it ever took upper physical activity with my influence. You're doing something right. 👊🏼💚
So I joined an MMA gym with the sole purpose of doing boxing (im mostly self taught) and learning Mauy Thai. I then noticed the bjj students and how much fun they were having. Not saying you can't have fun in Maui Thai, but when you can't get the combo right or your partner messes up as well it can get frustrating. Also, Muay Thai classes had actual advance fighters who had an ego about them. I can't blame them, I sometimes have it to when practicing with less experienced partners. But in bjj the higher belts were always extremely helpful and everyone was willing to roll with everyone. Anyways I decided to do one class and actually really liked it. Im no were near were I should be and decided to stop for a few months to drop weight. Im 5'7 200 lbs, but I wanna be at least 180 lbs to compete. I'll be back in December and in the meantimes do private lessons made once a week and sole drills. My goal is to do a competition before I turn 30 (I turn 29 next month). Austin you are my hope!
dude this is my favourite grappling video on youtube. great storytelling, voice over, a personal experience many can relate to or get motivation from and you both look like likeable goofy dudes that are not the typical macho martial arts asshole kinda people BJJ unfortunately has too much of! keep making videos :)
Austin is a beast in the making. His story reminds me of my own journey...hardcore out of shape gamer turned athlete. I started BJJ three months ago and I'm on the mats five days or more every week. Jits has forever changed me. Constantly thinking about jits, nutrition, mobility and strength training. Stay disciplined Austin and keep up the good work brother. Cheers Ryan for helping him make such a revolutionary life change.
I am in the same path than you, used to be a hardcore gamer. BJJ transformed my life in many ways and I have been training only for 6-8 months. I try to go at least 4 times per week before my baby arrives (wife due date is the 10th of March). Let's come back to this comment next year to see our progress :)
I think that you are a really good friend. I wish that I had someone like you in my life, but instead of lamenting, I will be that person that I needed the most for myself…and in turn, maybe I will be that friend to someone else.
Okay, okay! This story just got you a new subscriber! Way to go Austin! Just remember that the black belt is the white belt that never quit. Congrats on your win on the tournament, on your blue belt and on your journey! Cheers from 🇧🇷! 🙇🏻♂️ Oss
This is really inspiring, I'm 15 and I just joined my high school wrestling team. For wrestling I'm starting really late and don't expect to win one match this year. Congrats to Austin for all that progress.
Super motivational! I just started bjj. I love watching videos like this while working out. It really helps me maintain a positive mindset. Thank you and keep up the great work!
i recently turned 16 and im about to join wrestling, i'm 5,10 and 160 and i've just never really been good at sports so i can relate to austin in a way, i get insanley nervous and scared and give up out of fear. its hard goodjob to austin, keep up the work!
I was lucky enough to play almost every sport you can imagine growing up, but I will tell you right now if you think your in the best shape of your life and you aren’t in wrestling or grappling you ARE NOT. The mentality, physicality (fighting another human) and conditioning is unlike any other sport. Almost every day I would sweat out 5-10lbs and get my ass handed to me. My revelation was getting thrown across the mat room by a guy only using one arm. He was our heavy weight and at the time I was a sitting about 180, but I made sure that never happened again and it built my love for the sport. With all that being said I would 1000% recommend anyone to go try it out. Austin said it changed his life and for me and many others I know it has as well. Amazing video as well!!
This really inspired me to get back into martial arts. I used to do some heavy bag training before and no gi grappling. But I realize I never really stuck with during that time also because of covid. Now the gym is abit far away but that is just an excuse
what a great transformation/motivational video. i am 29 now, i thought it was too late for me. Thank you for inspiring me. all the wishes to you, your friend and the channel.
You are a good friend, you have to be careful not to seriously hurt your friend or yourself. The video was fun, I would also like to start wrestling or Jiu Jitsu, but I think at 53 I'm too old. Do you have any idea how to train at home? Please carry on. Kind regards from Germany
Plenty of people start jiu jitsu in their 50’s! You should to your local gym and try out a class. It’ll be more fun and effective than training at home
It’s sad because a lot of ppl are his position where they feel Lost and don’t know what to do in their life… even Rogan said it exercising alone will bring confidence up get your in shape
