Tip for you and your subscribers. Use the side burner to light your coal chimney. It fits perfectly in the round contour. No need to remove the round rack either. Light up the burner for about 3 minutes until the smoke is billowing out. Turn off the burner and let it do it’s thing. Within 10 minutes the flaming hot coals will be ready to pour into the fire box.
Another good use for the side burner, if any of you guys are fisherman, I've found that it is excellent for fish fry's.(or any deep fried food) So much better to fry fish outside rather than indoors where it can smell up your whole house for days. My wife and kids love it.
I just found mine at Lowes as damaged. The kid putting it together bent the lip trying to get the firebox out and they had just marked it to $100. It did take me a couple of minutes to get the box out and around 15 seconds to bend back the lip. Got it all assembled yesterday and put it on some property I'm clearing. Thanks for the video and I'll watch some more to learn your tips Can't wait to try it out Christmas when we run up to the land
Thanks for this video. I just got one for Father's Day and smoked some ribs (Fam said it was the best I ever made) This weekend, Brisket and Turkey Wings
Lorde Grande thanks for stopping by. Yeah, the missus is allergic to seafood, so when I want to eat anything that came out of the ocean I cook it in the backyard.
Currently researching different burners. I noticed some smoke coming from the gas side coming into the open smoker side. Do you notice that the heat barrier wall between the gas and smoker side is good?
How do you find temp managing in the cook chamber? I have this model and I’m constantly fighting to keep the temperature DOWN, and also fighting to keep the fire going. I’m adding splits every 30 minutes to keep it going, but the fluctuation of temp is all over the place.
I have the 3 in 1 grill. When I cook in the middle grill or the charcoal grill, I put charcoals at the bottom. The heat goes out to the smoke box and also to the gas grill from the hole at the bottom. How do i keep the heat in the middle grill only? ty
Love making use of those firebox grates. I just did the same to mine. How did you get them to stay in that angled position like that? Mine only like to lay flat. Also, despite what the instruction manual says, wouldn't it be better to use the "grate assembly" in the firebox instead of the smoker?
You mentioned in a previous video about maybe getting a clamp for the lid. Did you just decide you didn't need one after all? I'm trying to figure out the best place to mount one. Maybe at the bottom?
ryan v I did not get clamps. Over time, the smoker will start to seal itself with use. I have very little to no smoke that escapes anymore. Thanks for stopping by the channel.
Just got the same exact grill you have glad you gave it a good review and from what I'm told it's fully cast iron ? Haven't assembled it get got it for about 500 bucks at Lowe's can't wait to use it the part that sucked me in was the smoker I always wanted a smoker I'll be smoking ribs and brisket all summer long lol thanks for the great review and did the cover come with it or did you buy it ?
It has lasted very well. The cover you can buy for it lasts for about 7 months and the becomes very brittle and rips easily. So, they don’t know how to make a cover, but the grill/smoker are awesome. You will enjoy it.
Assuming you haven't repurposed the racks from the firebox (brilliant idea, btw), I imagine that's what they're there for originally: high, hot direct cooking. Perfect for searing.
Dont know if anyone ever told you, but you sound like Pete Coyote, the guy who narrated all of Ken Burns films. There is a nice little market for Voice Over work you might find some success in. Thanks for the review !!
Douglas Heffron thanks. I pulled him up on RU-vid to listen to his voice. That was quite the compliment you paid me. If I had any idea how to get into voiceover work, I wouldn’t mind. Maybe I’ll look into it. Thanks for stopping by the channel.
i just picked up one of these a couple days ago and was wondering about the gaps in the firebox. I'm glad to see the high temp sealant did the trick. BTW They have changed the quality of material for the cover.
N Henderson I still have a little smoke that escapes, but honestly, not much. Certainly not enough to affect temp or smoke on the meat. Thanks for stopping by.
SgtPowerWeiner not too long, maybe four/five smokes. I still have a small (very small), amount of smoke that escapes but it doesn’t affect temp or smoke going through the cooking chamber.
Covers are good during rain or snow, but should be avoided like the plague any other time. Because they are waterproof, they do not permit evaporation to occur and aid condensation, and both aid rusting.
