Great video! I've been thinking about getting one but I have never had a manual car and I was worried about learning, so hearing that this was also your first was awesome to hear!

Glad it helped! It was extremely nerve wracking for me when I first got it, I even had my friend drive it off the lot for me. It helps if you know people that already know how to drive stick shift! Also watch lots of RU-vid videos! The smoking tires has a really good tutorial on learning to drive stick shift!

It seems intimidating, but it really isn't. Just takes a little practice but anyone can do it. Just remember that your grandparents and maybe your parents drove manual and thru survived.

I get between 19-20 MPG in my Jeep Gladiator Rubicon with a manual transmission. It’s all about monitoring it as you drive and not driving like a hoonigan. And it’s an 80 mile commute round trip on back roads. I could get 30 mpg in a 86.

Nice review and update, very informative. Just had a couple of questions if you could please give your thoughts on based on your experience. How’s the ride quality for daily driving?, is tire/road noise bearable at speeds around 50mph? I’m thinking about getting the base model automatic transmission as a daily driver for 25-mile commute on not so great roads in moderately heavy traffic, do you think it would work for that?. Thank you
@Botographi
@Botographi Год назад
Ride quality is preference, I would say it rides pretty stiff for a stock suspension, now idk how that compares to the brz cause I believe they tweaked the suspension for both cars from what I know the gr86 is more stiff. Tire and road noise I rarely ever notice it, one thing you will notice is the fake engine noise that comes through the speaker but you can always unplug it. And the automatic model will probably get you better mpg but you are going to be sacrificing a little bit of the fun haha, keep in mind it is a low powered car so having a manual transmission adds more fun to it but I understand if you are constantly driving in traffic.

Couldn't find a GR86 in August so i had to settle for a Camry (my lancer was starting to feel the age, miss that beautiful machine) luckily the guys in Toyota are the best and told me that in 6 months if i want to do a trade in to let them know a month in advance so they can hold one for me 😊. In a stroke of luck that coincides with the Truenos release.

@Botographi
@Botographi Год назад
I think for the average person yes, the car sits a lot lower than most cars because my friends that do sit in my car always say your car is so low even though it's stock height. If you have another car already and you're just planning to get this car as an added car then I would recommend it but maybe get ramps to get the car to a higher place during these seasons, otherwise if you don't have another car and the entire neighborhood floods, Idk if I would recommend getting the car

The Android auto thing has nothing to do with the gr86. I got an aftermarket head unit for my 12-year-old polo and it does the same. what help was getting a new cable but it only helps for a couple of months! The best thing to do is, get a phone holder. The problem should disappear! Road vibrations make the cables brake faster...

Your Android Auto disconnecting: it's probably the connection between the cable and your phone, so just get a wireless device, like carsifi. Get a short cable with 90 degree end, and fix it inside the storage, then the cable won't move and you won't lose connection.

I currently own a Mazda3 sedan and a GR86. This may be the perfect comparison for your question. The GR86 is a more raw car. You feal every bump in the road, hear every sound, and feal far more connected to the act of driving. The Mazda3 is soft comfortable commute in comparison. Think of the difference between a luxury SUV and a compact car like a Honda Civic and expect the differences magnified in a sports car. When driving the GR86, you look up to everyone else on the road. While there is more than enough room in the GR86 for the driver and passenger, there is almost no room for anything else. The GR86, however, does not have a lot of the issues I would have with most other sports cars. Most sports cars have horrible visibility. Most are uncomfortably loud. Most have so much power that instead of enjoying driving, you have to constantly avoid giving it too much power and ending up in jail or a ditch. The GR86 is as great to drive at 30 as it is at 100.

@Botographi
@Botographi Год назад
@@sethkang4410 I have never owned any Hyundai cars, I do know some of the velosters are really fun. I think it depends on what you want. If you want a bigger car, elantra N would be a nice option with some fun with the N mode. If you want a little more power and willing to sacrifice more space than the elantra then the veloster is a great option. In my bias opinion, if you are able to get the GR86 in a manual gearbox, probably the best option.It has enough torque on the low end to have fun daily driving and it is super light and really easy to throw around. This also depends on the market that's around your area. I waited about 5-6 month for my GR86. If you are in dire need of a car atm then get the first thing that comes in first. Also consider the mark ups for these cars since they are in higher demand.

@Botographi
@Botographi Год назад
I disagree, if you buy a used car to learn, it will have more mechanical issues on top of the clutch unless you hire an instructor which would also cost more. IMO I think it is perfectly fine to learn on a new car as long as you have some knowledge of how to operate a manual (YT tutorials).
