I was lucky enough to live through the early Journey years I'll be 60 this year. I don't dig getting old, but the fact that i was here for the best decades of music; the 70s and 80s makes it easier to take.😊
They don't have bands like this no more. I hope music makes a comeback. "Why can't this night go on forever" is another good song. They have so many though. Hard to choose from.
I agree, the live Mother-Father is the best! I would also recommend viewing a video of one of Perry’s biggest influences. Watch Sam Cooke’s performance of “You Send Me” from the Ed Sullivan show. You can definitely hear Perry mimicking the Sam Cooke lick in many of his songs.
I had to go find the link. Such a good song and knowing he lost the love of his life, it really hits the heart. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cj-ab7jkLeM.html
Think about it this way. Back in the day when these songs were coming out people didn't have the internet to look up lyrics, social media to share their opinions, playlists to keep the best songs on hand for quick listening. Now that you're giving the old music a chance, in these ways you might have it just as good if not little bit better than some of us did. I myself am rediscovering lots of music from our past in a new way with content like yours. So, thanks for that. Enjoy with us.
when you said, "you can be a fan and not know every song", you are so right. It's like walking in a warm summer's rain, and not be touched by every drop, and yet still "feel" it.
These guys worked so good together. So much talent, songs like this will stand the test of time. Groups now a days just don’t get it. Journey will live through many generations, and when journey is gone the music will always be there.
You will love "Why Can't This Night Go Forever" (listen for the verse when he sings "Tell me secrets ohh that make you cry") it really will make you cry from the emotion. Also I'd love to see your reaction to "Somethin' To Hide! Steve Perry's vocals are stellar!
I grew up in this time period of music. It was everywhere around us. We were surrounded with this type of music on a daily basis and now as I look back on it I think we somehow didn’t appreciate it as much as we should have. Maybe we thought music would always be like this. You are correct that we don’t have this sensational kind of music anymore and yes, we truly do need it back!! I am just thankful for places like youtube where we can revisit a music wonder that is lost and rekindle that experience we once had.
Just listen to every single album by Journey with Steve Perry. You will love every bit of it. There is no voice like his! They have been my all time favorite band since high school when they were hitting the charts constantly!
I was fortunate enough to see Journey several times in concert and they never disappointed! Even better live than the recordings. Our lives are better now that we have their music to enjoy and these songs will stand the test of time!
Lizzie, I love you. I saw these guys in 1981 at Pine Knob and at Joe Louis in 1982 live in Detroit. I was a big part of the music scene in Detroit in the late 60s and early to mid-70s. I have sat backstage with Steve Perry in Sept 1981. We talked for a good 15 minutes. What a stellar man. No one and I mean NO ONE can touch his voice. He was THE VOICE. They were impeccable in live performances. I just wish that we had concerts and talent like we had in my day. There was no Autotune, or digital backup music, etc. There were no light shows like today or pyrotechnics. There were just talented groups and talented entertainers. I myself was a drummer in the days and played with a lot of Detroit/Ann Arbor/Flint groups. It was hot in those days. Not like today. When I say that I usually get told off and asked to just shut up. After all what does "Grandpa know?". lol xoxo
Yes, that was music from my youth. They knew how to create beautiful lyrics back then! I'm just glad your generation still gets to hear what we got to experience back then.
JOURNEY: "Patiently" "Something To Hide" "Winds Of March" "Opened The Door" Sweet & Simple" " Lovin' You Is Easy" " Where Were You?" " I'm Cryin'" " When You're Alone (it ain't easy)" " Walks Like A Lady" "Still They Ride" " Escape" " Stoned In Love" " Edge Of The Blade" "Ask The Lonely" " Mother, Father" "Why Can't This Night Go On Forever?" and many more!
This is off their best album to date in my personal opinion, "trial by fire" many many great songs on this album... it's my personal favorite from them. Love love love it.
Yes you are very correct. This song means alot to many. To me I think this song is on par with "Faithfully"... amazing lyrics and instrumentals... and that guitar solo...very nicely done! Thanks for your honest opinions and reactions. 👍‼️
Ive gone to a lot of concerts back in the 80s and seeing Journey was THEE best concert ive ever gone to and ive liked a lot of concerts. So that will say a lot of that band! That band needs Perry back!!
steve freaking perry. the GOAT. actually saw journey in phoenix in the 80's. they were absolutely magnificent . soooo many great ballads as well as kick ass rockers . Winds of March is one of my favorites . if you want to react to one of their rockers try Stone in Love . live .
You are right Lizzie. We were extremely blessed to listen and watch Journey and Steve Perry progress into music history with songs that still touch people to this day! One of my favorite groups growing up. I had tickets to one of their concerts when I was 18, but unfortunately, I did not get to see them because I was involved in a motorcycle accident that left me hospitalized. By the grace of God, the second time I was hospitalized because of the accident, the doctors were able to save my right arm. I almost lost it due to a staff infection that left my whole arm yellow and green because of infection. Not a fun time. But, the Lord gave me the strength to fight through it, and the doctors the wisdom to combat the infection. Sorry, that I rambled on, but the memories of missing my Journey encounter bring this up. Much love your way Lizzie.
Not all songs during "their era" was as full as their music, but yes, their music has depth, power... thus the term power ballad. Not just a ballad... a power ballad. You heard the guitar riffs and solo, the drums fills, and of course the piano. Great song. Great artist. Great review too.
I feel blessed! In the 80’s when everyone was in the Club I was at MSG and other venues watching rock groups perform! Unfortunately, I never saw Journey in concert but I love their music and Steve Perry’s solo music as well!
There's one important information you need to know about this video!!!! According to Steve Perry.......'He went to Hawaii to get ready to do a world tour for this album. As he was hiking up an mountain, he began to feel pain like he's never felt before. He call the manager to tell him that something as happen he's in alot of pain. And he's now on his way back home. And will be seeing a doctor. Comes to find out that his hip was going out, and that he needed major surgery!! ' However, Steve wanted to make sure what the best option was for him! After nearly a year of waiting for Steve, the band didn't want to wait any longer! And told him that he needed to get the surgery done or deal with it and go on tour. That didn't settled with Steve pretty well. Then it came down to the point, where Jonathan Cain (the keyboardist) making the call. Telling Steve that the band was moving on without him!!!!! Now what does this have to do with the video.?? It was during the making of the video where Steve was in so much pain. That in between breaks, he had to ice his hip!!! Eventually Steve got the hip replacement done. And is doing well!! Other songs you should react to from Trial By Fire are.......Still She Cries, It's Just The Rain, Trial By Fire and Don't Be Down On Me Baby!! Also check out Journey earlier stuff as well!!!
Great reaction Lizzie! If you want more Journey requests, you may want a dedicated playlist just for them; their "rabbit hole" runs deep! More Journey requests? You got it: Wheel In The Sky Lights Just The Same Way Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin' Walks Like A Lady / Stay Awhile Any Way You Want It Hopelessly In Love / Party's Over Ask The Lonely Stone In Love Still They Ride Mother, Father Escape Only The Young Girl Can't Help It Suzanne Happy To Give Eyes Of A Woman Why Can't This Night Go On Forever Message Of Love Still She Cries Easy To Fall I'm sure that I missed some that someone else may request. Both Toto and Ambrosia may be of interest to you as well! Peace!
First I want to apologize for not seeing your video first about this band and the song and when I say band I mean more than just Steve Perry like you were speaking responding. I was a DJ temporary amateur at my local skating rink between 84 and 90 I love Journey and those songs are called Power rock ballads. I'm on Amazon music under my retired DJ name the dynamic kid I like all kinds of music genre so I'm going to open my mind. Since now just getting his closed and was sold I'm very a lot of a lot of memories. Also have a playlist of Journey mostly all the hits older and new I still like the old Journey it is said rock is an idea of an ideal expression. But I had the response to this one the true matters of the heart thank you for posting I appreciate your reaction thanks for sharing too peace of one love always
I'll always admire Steve's courage in making thia video... He was in teerible pain (you can see it in his eyes) and on pain meds, needing a hip surgery really bad, and still manages to dance and sing like this...
I just love watching your reactions! You put so many movements and mannerisms and expressions into them. You are truly good at this. It doesn't matter which song it is, you are fabulous! I'm so glad I found your amazing channel! Here's to your next reaction! 🙏🙂❤️
You're so right! This is the type of song we need today! More than ever! But, we also need young ladies like you to keep these songs alive! Thank you so much for the lovely trip down Memory Lane!
That’s the most exciting thing to hear! I’m a fan and I only know one song. I’m fastening my seatbelt. It’s reactions like these that allow all of us to relive the magic from decades long ago when our lives, hopes and dreams were before us.
No other way to say it, but I feel BLESSED to have grown up with this music. I did take it for granted, though, thinking that kind of music would always keep being created.
I am a 62 yo guy and grew up having love for everyone and I tear up every time I hear this song, So much great Music 60's 70's 80's 90's. If you look in the video when the song was almost over Steve's hair was really long. His 1st Solo album "Love of Strange Medicine" Is fantastic if you wanted to react to it. Love and Peace
Lizzie, it was absolutely amazing to have Journey provide one of the most beautiful, loved and important parts of the soundtrack of my generation's youth. That honor and sentiment has not diminished over time. We were blessed with so much incredible music to grow up with, not only from Journey but from many others, as well. Journey was always been on a different level though. It was like you knew you were hearing something special every time you heard them. It simply wouldn't have been the same without them.
There's really not a bad song to react to from them during the Perry era. All the suggestions you've been given are awesome, especially Mother Father from the Houston concert. Personally, I like It's just the Rain and What Was. No guitar solos but awesome songs. I think you would really like them
Hi honey, the feeling Journey brings is goodness and integrity through the hearts of both, the members of Journey, and you Miss Lizzie. Your reactions parallel million's of music lover's. I have one Journey song that would be a treat for us all, in joining your beautiful reactions. "Suzanne" & "Why Can't This Night Go On Forever"
Yes I feel very fortunate to grow up with the 70s 80s and 90s music and attend concert after concert. It is a great feeling but now sad like you mentioned, sad that we don't have as much musical talent like this anymore.... However you know what is even more special? Beautiful people like you, new generations like yours hungry for real music that are bringing it back at least for a listen, to experience videos these bands left for us all to carry onward. Thank you Lizzie for your fresh insight and for your interest in great music. Stay beautiful!
