It's so amazing to see how the right combination of techniques from other artists can result to such amazing works and even a really nice style. Picking Rolua to study is such a great choice when i saw the notification that a Rolua study video is out I got excited. Thankyou again for making these videos tppo we appreciate you and your effort on making these
This is actually the best channel i've ever come across. Literally blew me away at the end when you found out her finishing touch by literally going through every function. How would you even know to put trace contour on 50%??? Amazing work man.
tppo you mad lad dude, i was a person that doesn't understand how to learn art but get into an art industry. and i happen to learn alot of things in arts thanks to you. your explanation + easy to understand video presenting was really safe me a bunch. i hope you always in a good health and safety to deliver your educational digital art as always thank you so much brother ♥️
I love this new era of digital illustration. So many ideas to explore and boundaries to push. All the while these artists have strong foundational skills. Thank you for sharing these tips.
All these techniques have existed since 2009 afaik. I learned them in my graphic design classes back then. Still its a good showcase of how these artists are using them expertly. Some artists try to keep their tricks to themselves unfortunately which may be why not many people know about these.
suddenly, im really sad im not working with photoshop/pc anymore. the filters and all they have are just bonkers, i miss them. props to you for finding all of this out and compiling it in this way, if i ever work with photoshop pc again, i'll definitely come back to these videos :)
although i dont use photoshop (in fact i use medibang paint). the fact you spend so much time, to the point you watched every of Rolua's timelapse, even explaining every detail of what you discovered scares me, in a good way
A lot of these techniques are great time savers! They can really make a work that was otherwise missing something just "pop." However, they won't magically make your work good if you don't have a good foundational understanding of the basics. It's the same story over and over-- at the end of the day, good tools are just good tools. It's how you use them that counts, and there's no shortcuts when it comes to learning the basics.
great videos as always!!! you're the best artist breakdown channel I've ever seen, I would never know any of these techniques without watching your videos man thanks a lot for making it you'll be famous one day:D
I love it when artists have their own unique secrets on how they make their arts, i'll take this into consideration and thanks for breaking it down, they're really talented with what they are doing.
man this was so good. i switched to clip studio paint this year so i tried figuring out if some of there were also available in csp and some are!! like linear dodge in csp is just "add". The same effect as outer glow(almost) can be achieved by "border effects". which is the same as "stroke" in photoshop. gradients, curves, levels, etc are all available in csp. the things that arent are LUTS, filter gallery, camera raw. but i guess that's just one of those reason to never quit photoshop haha. before this i swear to god i use to look at artist like these and think "Jesus, these guys are living in another plane of existence" but now i feel a little closer to them. thankyou for teaching us these cool things and actually showing us how to figure them out and learn.
thank you soooo much for you commentary ! i was desperate about this outerglow effect and i didn't know how to name the search on google to know how to achieve it in csp
I hope this isn't a weird comment but the way you're able to pick up on concepts like this and analyse an artist's visual choices communicates to me that you must be very intelligent
i'm amazed. Especially the filter, finishing line and the highlight. So good. Now im getting started to feel more confident to learn from zero to become like them
If you work on krita and want to try the 2 first tips, you have to right click your layer (not click the normal/ multiply/ screen selection panel) and select layer style. It's right under properties, or the 2nd option from the top. From there, it's the 3rd and 4th options, so you'll find pretty easily Also, the outer glow looks weird, so under the noise thing, you can change the color of you glow. It works well enough in black, just remember not to put the opacity at its fullest. You can obviously play with the settings and look around. Have fun!
funny enough after watching this video I was gonna figure out how to try and implement these in Krita through trial and error. I'm really lucky to have checked the comment section before trying and thank Y O U so much for putting this information here. god bless
Your channel is an absolute godsend! I have been searching for workflows and processes that japanese artists use, but I couldn't find any on yt, + a lot of them didn't explain what they were doing and I felt demotivated and just gave up. But I'm so glad you did this, I can finally learn what I wanted to for so long!! Even the way you edit videos are insane!!! It makes me want to watch more. I would love to see your video-editing process too! Thank you so much again, keep going, I think your channel is going places!
I usually return to this video every three or four months and I find that I’m understanding it more and more instead of leaving the video completely forgetting what was said. The knowledge of layer effects is what got me the most, I never thought I could use them in that way nor understand them!
This video is actually legendary. The fact that you break it down into how to achieve it through the progamme interface (sorry I don't know the right term haha) so that even if you don't have the same drawing programme, you know what to look for helped me massively! A lot of my friends use clip studio and as much as I want to too, I'm short on leisurely spending money so I use Krita. A great app, but (imo) lacking in the creator brushes featured in clip to make artists' lives easier. So the fact that I could essentially find and achieve the same shortcuts but through the actual programme and not shortcut brushes is actually making me tear up. That and just the brief but understandable explanations to methods such as using the curve will just make my life easier! Sorry for the lack of coherency in this comment!!! This video just made me insanely happy as an artist.
This is like an eye opener! I always feel my drawings are always ending up bleak and un-interesting.. I will definitely try some of these, thank you so much!
One of those very rare times you actually Like, Comment and Subscribe. A channel that stands out, original content, well edited clips, no misinformation, good analytics, etc. Clean audio and music. This is great, well made through and through. The perfect example of a channel should be that wants to grow. Hats off to you, hope you'll make it sustainable ❤️
The 5th technique can be replicated with Photoshop's gradient maps as well. That's my favorite technique as a designer 3:40 To be be more accurate, I'd even say that for this method to work, your image gotta feature a lot of value. When there a very few shades of gray, it just doesn't work
True, although camera raw is easier to learn for beginners. Gradient maps look really confusing when you’re first starting to use them, even if you know what each part of it does in theory
You're an angel. I've been trying to figure out how tf these artists get certain results for a while and you're put it together in such a lovely video. Tysm
I seriously commend how hard you are working at this. I love how you fully admit where you go wrong and want to make corrections for next time... I'm learning a lot. Your videos really made me realize how much more I could be doing art-wise!!!!
Wow, I'm impressed at your ability to break down each of these artists artwork and observe through a complete observational theory. I've been working with Photoshop for over 20 years, and the stuff I learned from your videos has been mind blowing in how to use certain filters in creative ways. I've even learned about new artists that I want to check out now because of your videos. Thank you so much for all this great advice and artist shoutouts!
Great video - concise, detailed, to the point with no extra stalling and useless commentary. And you credited all the artists in the description!! Thank you!
ive been watching an artist named eo58 on twitch use the outer glow as a way to skip lineart after a sketch. it was in Japanese so i couldn't understand it and i was using csp instead of photoshop. i ended up using the border effect to emulate it and came out with some thing cool. anyway thanks for this. im looking forward to opening photoshop to edit some of the art I've made with these effects!!
dude you're creating great, high quality videos. i keep on coming back to this specific video. so much work and effort that you always put in content. thank you! keep it up!
Seeing the techniques of artists is really awesome! Can't wait to experiment with it in my 3D to 2D artworks! RU-vid recommended me this video, I'm grateful for it.
This was so straight-to-the point and perfectly in depth. Thank you for a great video! I don't illustrate but I follow many illustrators and always wonder how they do it.
damn bro your context is top quality super useful and criminally underrated like.. where have you been from my feed? you should always be there on everyone's goddamn feed......
I appreciate how you broke down the techniques with such smooth and dynamic motion graphics in your video! I have to try out some of these crazy tricks sometime
I got stucked so much time trying to replicate painting on medibang with no progress and now this video get me back the inspiration and creativity to try all that already did many years ago in simplier softwares. Thanks
dude you have no idea how much i love your videos im obsessed with u tysm for all of these videos u have no idea how grateful i am i cannot express it enough OMG
My brain feels so huge, I already did a lot of these so it made me feel extra clever, I’d add messing around with high pass and emboss in filter and strategically erasing and using that for a lighting layer works really well, emboss with soft light can give you a really clean chromatic aberration effect. Also in certain situations using a combination of minimum and maximum can give certain parts of your image a really good wirey spiderweb quality but that’s honestly something that’s a bit more situational. Gradients are super powerful and I use them all the time, and you can use CTRL+B as an alternative to curves but you will have a lil’ less control. Honestly my biggest take away is play around with more tools, when I look at other artists process I notice most people don’t play around with so many of the great options photoshop has. That being said use these things in moderation, play around with the tools but don’t go crazy and make your art look deep fried or over processed. Use them to punch up the finished product and highlight your work not distract from it.
Saving this vid on a playlist to go back at it later, to try EVERY TIPS, to really understand how they work and use them to add a lil something on my drawings 👀
Damn you really did it As impressive as always I really love your contents and often share them with my fellow artists plz keep up the excellent work ❤ ur truly a rare gem bro 💎
I just recently discovered your channel and I've learned a lot. Now I know how to do that ghostly lines that i sometimes see in yuumei's art. Thanks to you buddy. Hoping for more videos!
This is why CSP hasn't been enough for me. I developed this fetish for very fat, German Expressionist and medieval Woodcut stuff, tried out linocut years ago and never got the print to come out right. Since then I've been doing crazy thick ink stuff without ever feeling like it was a) distinctly digital or b) particularly stimulating to look at. Now I was looking at changing my "ink" style to have the light parts be carved out and the colour be on the "flat" surface, inspired by how my old linocut plates look with all their lovely texture. I thought I'd have to main HeavyPaint, But this video really propelled me forward. So you freaking BET I'm going through every one of these PS features bruh. This is the kind of reverse engineering we need in the digital art community. THANK YOUUU. SUBBED
OK I have to admit, this was very insightful, but there is one wrong info there I'd like to point out about Colors. At 03:00 you say that Blue & Pink or Green & Purple are complementary colors and they continue with "Color Theory". Well that's a classic case of mixing up RGB and RYB. RGB is the system how the Curves Adjustment works, but Color Theory has different primary colors. Red yellow and blue. The complimentary for Blue is Orange, and the one for green is red. For pink it's lime-green and for purple it's yellow. But y'all may then ask why does the left img work if does not follow that? Well that's because it uses a different color contrast. A warm-cool contrast. See, there are multiple contrasts. Complimentary colors is just ONE of many. They have been layed out by Johannes Itten. The right image on the other hand works because it's actually a triadic color scheme: green, purple and orange (the ear), which is famously knows as the most used color scheme for vilians in comics 😄 the heros btw are using a lot of the opposite: red, yellow, blue.
The first time I heard of the 'outer glow' thing was in a demo where a guy showed a quick way to draw speech bubbles. I didn't realize there were way more uses for it.
I just found this channel, you are Hella underrated, you deserve to have a million subscribes by how much you've helped me during my digital art journey, wish you the best man 👍
