Body on frame v8 vehicle. High towing rating. I mean truck without a bed. I agree with you cause I hate it when people call suvs, trucks. But I get it. I feel like the 2nd gen dakota/1st gen durango should have made the list. Love my 99 durango. And yes I call it an suv lol.
Zac Larkby solidarity, brother. My life was a tragic comedy when I had mine. For a solid month, I had something break, fall off, stop working or explode every single day. It also had under 75k mi. Never touching a Chrysler again.
I was looking for a new car about a year ago and came across a few of your videos, I’m not a huge car guy but I watch hour videos regularly. They are very entertaining and is learn a lot.
when he calls the first gen rangers bulletproof it reminds me of a time I went to look at and 86 ranger and there was a literal bullet hole in the tailgate
I know you guys at donut aren't really into off-roading but I appreciate the effort! Would be really cool to get an off road enthusiast on the team though!
@@Donut Hi-Lo or a group adventure using used SUVs or trucks for less than 5k, and do an endurance to different areas around the country, maybe doing group meets along the way!
@@Donut please do a special just about the D21 Nissan Hardbody especially the rare 4x4 one like mine. Pathfinder's also would be badass! GRACIAS DONUT!
D21s for life. We need a video just for the nissan hardbody!! There so much diversity in them. From limos to rock crawlers to tilt beds to drift trucks to what ever you can imagine.
+1 my first truck (V6 4x4 SE) and vehicle for $1000 (I bought a project SOHC S13 a month later for $1500 as a side car). The 2000's were an amazing time with cheap but awesome car.
Hey James. Just wanted to share something. I'm currently driving a 1988 Ford Ranger XLT. It's a humble truck, but it's got a lot of meaning to me. It used to belong to my Grandpa, who drove it to work at the paper mill for years. He, my Dad, and I used to ride around Mount Vernon, WA when I was very small. When he died a few years ago, the Ranger was passed on to my Dad. He used to pick me up from my apartment and we'd drive around town in the Summer. When my Dad passed last year, the truck sat at my Mom's for a few months, not being driven due to an issue with the transmission gear lever. One day I finally made myself jerry-rig and then take it around the block to run the engine and put some new gas in it. It somehow felt like I was back with my Grandpa and my Dad again. I've been driving it ever since. I'm currently (albeit slowly) working on getting it back to its original glory, and when it's finished I want to put it in a music video on my channel. In the 32 years it's been in my family, the only thing that ever stopped it from running was needing new spark plugs. I highly recommend one of these. I don't think I could ever sell this one though. Thanks for the nostalgia trip, James. Hope everyone is well and safe. We'll all get through this no matter how crazy it feels. ❤️
Don’t sell it man, that truck clearly means a lot to you. Glad you have something in your possession that reminds you of good times. I’m in the same situation with my fathers ford ranger. Very humble truck and so many memories of when i was growing up sitting in that passenger seat. I could never sell it , it will eventually be passed down to my kids if they want to keep it.
FYI guys- for the C/K General Motors trucks the “C” indicated it was a 2WD and a “K” indicated it was 4x4. Also- 10 meant 1/2 ton (you could get short or long bed), 20 meant 3/4 ton (was always long bed), and 30 meant 1 ton.
@@monroefive-o40 nice logical fallacy bud. Houses don't have wheels or an engine. If an SUV is on a truck chassis it is a truck. If it is on anything else, it is a crossover.
Just remember, Ford SVT had planned to make a performance SUV during the glorious Lightning years. Called the Thunder, it was a lowered Expedition with the same supercharged engine and set up as the Lightning with all the comforts of a full size SUV.. but sadly Ford said no. I will never forgive Ford for not giving it the green light.
As well as axing the 3rd generation lightning and the lightningbolt concept - which was a stepside 2002 ranger with a full drivetrain / suspension swap from a 2002 Lightning. You can read more about 3 these concepts on blue oval trucks site. I still resent ford for killing off the 3rd gen. I'd give anything to own one.
My first vehicle was an 02 ranger I bought from my grandpa, he sold it to me for a thousand bucks and dammit it’s still my favorite vehicle I’ve owned. RWD, crank windows, 5 speed, 4.0, just an honest happy driving little truck. I don’t daily it anymore but I can’t let it go, at only 25 bucks a month for insurance it’s nice to keep around. Hard to let go of your first car
Daniel Maybee I hope so, they are in the perfect place for it! Btw @Donut Media if you decide to make Toyota Prerunners, I would advise to get Hi car Bajakits race series suspension. Best Prerunner suspension out there imo. With Baja Design lights sprinkled around the front it would be a beast on the trails.
I love how you can tell that James is REALLY passionate for vehicles, and he actually likes to make these videos unlike some other RU-vidrs. Keep up the good work👏👏👏
My dad used to have a 1991 4x4 Nissan D21. I loved it. I learned to drive in it. Now, it wasn't permanent 4x4, and to engage it you had to manually lock each front wheel dice. So when we had to go through some rough terrain my father would stop and have me get out and lock both front wheels. And when it was over I would have to get out again and unlock them. Good times.
Yeah, that's how we used to do it with any four wheel drive. I didn't know that it was done any other way until about a month ago. Course I'm driving my dads 76 power wagon so I wouldn't know.

When James had that crazy look in his eye when he said “twisters are just turbochargers of the sky” tells me he has been inside a little too long. Go get some air, bud 😂
My 1998 jeep cherokee sport with the inline 6 4L has almost 200k miles on it and the only thing I've had to replace so far is the muffler I love my jeep
Damn, here in Texas we def call CERTAIN SUVs trucks. Example: Rav4 or 4Runner? Not a truck. A Sequoia? That's a Tundra with a topper on it. Excursions and certain Expeditions also fit in this category.
Just condemned one today. Needs timing chains and phasers, has a bottom end knock, and a broken exhaust stud at only 127,000 miles. I'm glad the customer declined the work. I like money, but I hate to see people waste it.
@@noir-kx8ku Ford, Ford did when they made them 8mm studs holding cast iron to aluminum, and expected the manifold to hold up the exhaust with basically no extra brackets.
My 2002 Ford Expedition with the 5.4 just reached the end of its life with 300,ish miles on it no major issue we’ve had since brand new and that was on original engine and transmission with out rebuilding them. You need to take care of them and do all the preventative maintenance and they do great. Very please with my 5.4 also used it to haul trailers across country multiple times.
manage a fleet of construction trucks mainly of fords and gmcs. Average age of our 5.4 super duty trucks is 17 years and the average mileage of 220,000 miles. People who talk crap about fords are butthurt chevy and Toyota owners. I honestly don't know why, GM makes good trucks too they just leak everywhere. Toyotas have cheap C-frames and are truly meant to be suburban garage queens.
Heyo James I'm loving the daily uploads! Keep up the good work the whole donut team is keeping up this schedule on top of a PANDEMIC so ive got a lot of respect for you guys. Stay safe out there
This is my favorite channel since i discovered these guys. Was never into cars. Now i start conversations about them Haha. I dont know squat dont get me wrong, but this is now something i really dig, that i have never been interested in before. Keep it up.
James: “Tacoma, sounds like a city in the PNW” *shows photo of Seattle City of Tacoma: “Am I a joke to you?” But in all seriousness, Tac Town represent!
Parents bought one when they first came out.... several trips to the dealership later for the same brake issues over and over again they gave it back to the dealer under lemon law
I've got 3 second gens, but living in the rust belt, they're all rotting to shit in a hurry, but they're 25 years old so I can't bitch too much. Parts are minty cheap
Moved to the US almost 10 years ago and bought a 2002 Chevy Silverado 1500 for like $1k with almost 300k miles on it. Absolutely blew the tires off it, kept up with the maintenance somewhat and then the transmission cable broke. Been through multiple vehicles since then, all have broke and all have blown up. I kept the truck and just let it sit, the other day I went out, put gas in it and it started up first try. Put a new transmission cable on, took it for a drive and peeled the tires off again… The thing will not die. I have done everything to kill it and it still looks at me lovingly like “please take me for a drive”
@@mr.christopherp.4851 it's a joke that mostly Hispanics who own Silverado lower the suspension and slap some big ass wheels on them and say ''cuh'' after each sentence
This is the year 2020. I bought my used 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo in 2003 and I still have it. A little beat up, but still looking pretty good! Just had some transmission repair done and I just reached 125,000 original miles! I had 2 other vehicles; Dodge Caravan and Dodge Ram after becoming I'll with a brain tumor and Heart Failure; (2010 & 2011). The Dodges are gone, but the Jeep is still rolling strong. Once the fender and rear bumper is replaced, plus some minor interior work, I can repair it to look like new! Love my Jeep!
