It's been a common theme, and not just for the evs. Everything has gone up except, it seems, in China. If we compare the F-150 Lightning's current price, however, the Cybertruck is much higher. When Rivian tried the same, their reservation holders rebelled, and the company backpedalled. As I mentioned in a previous video (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xEqo532tRZM.htmlsi=FfFEfgLDzQh557dj), this is still good news, in a sense. Let's hope these early buyers help bring the prices down for the rest of us. Thank you for your comment!

Early buyers of a product in a new market will always pay a premium, i see manufacturers selling electric vehicles similar or even surpassing the ford focus for $15 000. If they don't get the price down to this, then we will see new manufacturers building decent quality ev;s that take a huge chunk of the marketspace from them.

I grew up working on farms in Iowa back in the late 1970's early 1980's. I see this truck as a fantastic truck. The price now is high, but will come down. Get the money while you can. You do not need to pay to have things I don't need. How many people really need to have an air compressor built in. There are some, but if you are a serious builder, you would need a more heavy-duty air compressor than you can build into a truck. I see this truck sitting on farms for 50 years. You don't need 500 miles of range when all you do is pull 10 to 20 miles at slow speeds. You need the power from the battery for pumping water, and other things you can do with an electric motor. I want to see what happens to the bed after you have put some 500lbs sows in the back, and they are scratching themselves on the LED light bar. That will be the more interesting test.

Why would you need a massive screen with all corners sticking out to get caught on everything, break when bouncing around and something hits it, that the dog chews the corners off (because the dog can’t just jump in the tray like on a more practically-shaped bed. Also p, what self-ck driver wants a sedan setup? Back seats are for families, trucks should only have front seats (lol my opinion only ofc). Also the utility part is too small. Will severely limit what kind of work junk you can pile on. When I need spare power, I have a battery pack and solar. I don’t think I would ever need to spend a hundy g for something that’s had multiple solutions already for ages. Not having a go at you, I’m dead serious. I’m from the bush too, and the CT looks like a joke. Maybe we are built different in Australia. I just don’t think many actual country people are going to be the main drivers of ct

Good point about the frame but you really can't use an exoskeleton with doors that open since you lose support in that area, and with all the weight they're dealing with you need support! As for the range, I think the battery development has fallen short of what they expected to get out of the new larger cells.

From Wikipedia the definition of an exoskeleton car you will notice you have an outside tube frame and no door ... You climb in through the top of the frame. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exoskeleton_car You can also see how the car is made by Tesla showing the frame of the car with the panels attached to it so it's kind of an exoskeleton but not fully.

Yeah, it's a hybridized approach. Sandy Munro talked a bit about this recently, but this configuration sacrifices torsional rigidity, and I think that's why Tesla had to backpedal on the payload and towing numbers. @@janmessek1826

So funny that they really have no idea (or, they might have an idea, but Elon is just born with mythomania) with the batteries. Of course the larger cells contains more energy. But not more energy/volume/density (now we are not talking some fractions here and there but real important difference). Battery energy density has actually been pretty stable for a long time now. And no, i am not talking about special applications and lab batteries but everyday usage batteries for like, cars.

To quote Princess Bride - "Get used to disappointment". Many products at delivery don't match the projections made when they are announced. Especially in quickly evolving sectors. Many technology companies don't even bother announcing their products until they are well under production. It's difficult enough to predict where the technology will get to in several years, but even harder to guess the future of the economy, consumer tastes, competitors offerings, supply constraints, etc. If I were running Tesla, I would have made the same calls. Features and capabilities that are needed by a small fraction of the potential buyers just add cost, complexity, and weight. Better to alienate 10% of potential buyers to better meet the needs of the 90%. Most of the people that I know with a truck don't need 500+ miles of range, rarely or never tow, rarely or never have more than 500 lbs in the bed, have a shorter bed in their current truck, rarely or never off road, rarely or never need an air compressor, etc. They would gladly trade all of those things for rear wheel steering.

@truckedupevs
@truckedupevs 7 месяцев назад
Excellent question. It doesn't have differentials, axles, or any other undercarriage, and there's significant armour plating from front to back. Still, when I'm on logging roads, Cybertruck's break-over angle looks low, but I see that Unplugged Performance is already out with a full suspension lift. This thing is light for an ev truck, about as heavy as an F-250, but with 4-wheel steering, torque vectoring, and independent semi-truck-level air suspension that can be raised for offroad, I'm thinking the Cybertruck could be quite a beast - other than those horrible bumpers!

No, actually, it is not. Feel free to visit amortization.org for an accurate calculation. $39K USD in 2019 would amount to amount to $46K in today's dollar, not $61K. $49K would be $58K, not $80K, and $69K would be $81.5K, not $100K. Truck owners spend a lot of cash on the truck, maintenance, and fuel. They deserve a break. I own the F-150 Lightning, and it has issues, but overall it is amazing for the price. WE, WE are getting less truck for 50% MORE MONEY ? ? ? ! The metrics are a disappointment to anybody that wanted needed or expected more. Wants needs and expectations are irrelevant because in the end of the day the CyberTruck IS what many need want and expect. I compare the vehicle to my Y and for $10,000 more I get the tough exterior the 4 wheel steering 10miles more range and a much faster 0-60 so that is a very reasonable upgrade in my opinion. In fact disappointment only comes to mind when I compared CyberTruck to any other pickup truck. If you don’t need a CyberTruck then don’t buy one. I don’t need a helicopter so I wouldn’t buy one. But it would be really cool 😎 👍🙏🏽😁 ((I do get disappointed in the CyberTruck for some metrics but more often I’m disappointed in the other trucks offered. The CyberTruck was ALWAYS getting an injection molded frame and the exoskeleton was ALWAYS going to be on the outside. I don’t think the word promise was used when describing the proposed CyberTruck and as far as the approach angle the photo you used didn’t show the CyberTruck in full lifted mode so you also didn’t give an example with failed examples of it’s approach angle. Most comments in this video are fair enough (if just more than a little snarky). But you have failed to factor in that inflation and Covid induced delays and many subsequent B.S. directives from the US Government, have naturally inflated the cost of this vehicle, ex factory. Further to that, the cost of stainless (no matter the alloyed mix) has increased over 50% in the last 2 years. Tesla may not be the GOD of vehicle fit & finish, but they sure know how to juggle cost+ into a mix that is acceptable to those who desire change into a paradigm that will wow and sell. AND, you may have failed to note that sale price is on par with comparable performance EV's from Rivian and Ford. Tesla is unlikely to break even on sell price versus C.O.M. for at least a year when parsed in isolation to their whole manufacturing operation, but they are doing it anyway, because it matters. Meanwhile, Ford and Rivian are struggling to come close to crossing the profitability line with their EV products while Tesla has huge on-call resources to ride out the inevitable World-wide financial balloon burst on the horizon.
@truckedupevs
@truckedupevs 7 месяцев назад
All great points. F-150 Lightning, however, is considerably cheaper, especially if you factor in the Pro, which is now available for consumers in 2024, also bringing a heat pump to market in all trims, which improves winter driving range, all on par with Cybertruck. Tesla claimed their beast was not only the same but better in every way than any other truck, including electric ones. I think Tesla is great, and so is the Cybertruck. I still have an order. However, that doesn't change the fact that if we sat down and went through the 2019 reveal, item by item, not a single one of the claims made that night was achieved (I've done it). Ford and Rivian both kept most of their initial roll-out promises (although Rivian backpedalled on a few later). Thanks for your comment - and yeah, I'm most certainly snarky :-)
@jimparr01Utube
@jimparr01Utube 7 месяцев назад
@@truckedupevs Thanks for the response Gary. I think the Ford Lightning is a great vehicle. I am unsure if comments/claims made in the initial reveal of the CT could be construed as promises. It is likely that 3'rd party providers will be eager to step in and fill the void caused by axing of eagerly anticipated accessories (like the ramp). There is no doubt Tesla will continue to roll out improvements in a short time when such improvements become economically viable. One thing you can be sure of - Tesla will keep a tight reign on COG & COM and hopefully lower these costs to the point where the CT becomes profitable at some point during the ramp up. Then they will have the wiggle room to hopefully re-visit some of the original customer expectations (unveiling 'promises'?). Good luck with receipt of your CT.
@truckedupevs
@truckedupevs 7 месяцев назад
@@jimparr01Utube A great exercise is to watch the original 2019 reveal. These were clearly not 'customer expectations', but claims made outright by Tesla. "Here is what our new truck can do. Orders are open now", basically. The expectations were borne out as a result of the statements, so I'll stick with 'promise' as an accurate statement. Musk stood on stage with prepared numbers rolling up on the screen behind him, and not a single one of those claims has been met in the final product other than speed and bullet-proof steel. That's a big miss by any measure. However, to be fair, it also has many features that have been added that weren't revealed, like 48-volt, 4-wheel steer, and variable steer by wire. Still, if a company states its truck will do 500+ miles, 3,500lb payload, 14klb tow, and out perform an F-150 in every metric, and then blast it up on the screen and in media releases, and invite MotorTrend to do a write-up on all of its claimed attributes, that company better deliver. Tesla didn't, and reservation holders have a right to call out any manufacturer for doing something similar. I think Tesla will eventually get there, so I would suggest holding off on the $120k for the Foundation series, because in 2 years it will be $60k and do twice as much. Thank you, first adopters, for spending the $ on a yet untested product for the rest of us, but I'm holding off for a year or two and will keep driving my Lightning in the meantime.

@@truckedupevs All understood Gary. Perhaps I am accustomed to disbelieving almost anything folks like Presidents, Laiyers, Banks, Stock Market Analysts, Mainstream Media and Politicians say (or promise). It is never what you say but what you do that commands respect. E.M. has my respect in spades for doing - notwithstanding his seeming Jekyll & Hyde personality. "Ye shall know them by their deeds". The guy certainly has a thick skin and Elon bashing seems to have become the USA's national hobby for power brokers of all types - up to and including the White House it seems to me. In spite of the much joked about "Elon time", he does under-promise and eventually over-deliver. P.S. I think the steer-by-wire with inverse-tapered gain w.r.t. speed is probably the BEST unexpected doo-dad added. And yes, the 48V low tension bus is another "gift" to the automotive industry that most auto manufacturers and their suppliers will be obliged to follow shortly. To not grab this baton and run with it would be extremely foolish in my view. I am a retired electronics design engineer, a New Zealand citizen and live in New Zealand.

Not once did Elon 'infer' anything in the 2019 presentation. Never once did Musk state, 'we're aiming for' or 'our goal is to..." This is why he is spends a lot of his time in court rooms. Musk stated often during the onstage event that the Cybertruck "WILL have________." That isn't inference. Also, when questioned by Motortrend in the 2019 Motortrend Magazine reveal where they were granted exclusive behind-the-scenes access, the Tesla team was adamant in discounting any reference to the Cybertruck being a concept or prototype. When Jay Leno interviewed Musk on Leno's Garage, Musk claimed that the final version would be better than the reveal specs, but the overall dimensions would be slightly smaller. Only the most fanatic of Tesla fans defend the indefensible misstatements of Tesla and its CEO, including but not limited to Summon & FSD, both of which were absolutely promised by the company, and proceeded to charge tens of thousands of people multiple thousands of dollars for FSD, which is nowhere near complete and over half a decade late. The Cybertruck isn't anything as advertised, and is quickly being shown as such by the actual people who own one. @@Pete35vail

I expect it will attract a lot of people that want an attention seeking appearance and perhaps that amazing 0-60 time. I remain unconvinced that it is a viable working truck. As for the stainless steel skin, I am sure a painted mild steel body would have been a better choice, but that would seem too ordinary...

That's my biggest question, actually. Can it function as a work truck? After listening to the Tesla execs having a one-on-one with Sandy Munro, I agree with Sandy that it might fit the Jeep crowd more than the F-150 one. Its numbers will only help the the Lightning IMHO.

The Rivian looks better every day when the Cybertruck is slowly seen for what it is. And teslas problem is that other manufacturers now know what the competition is, they need to harden the body and maybe design it a little different but not that many changes as the Cybertruck has failed to deliver on what it was supposed to be. I am sure ford and other truck manufacturers will be laughing at the Cybertruck and within a few short years be releasing something much more usable. And we know from experience that Tesla will not upgrade their vehicle for a decade.

I think you raise a good point. To give Tesla credit, it forced other manufacturers to enter the ev space. The F-150 Lightning, Hummer, and Silverado EV might never have happened had it not been for the impending Cybertruck threat. After 4 years of waiting, however, Tesla needed this moment to do a slap-down, a showcase of where everyone else had to get to in order to catch up, and that has been, by almost every metric, a failure. Wow! What a biased presentation. Your list of differences is mostly accurate, but lacks important context. Cybertruck is a radical departure from traditional truck design with very little industry experience upon which to design and produce it at volumes that would make it profitable. Tesla first had to determine whether there would even be a market for a vehicle like this. I remember the disbelief that flooded the internet in the days following the reveal. Many thought it would never be built, and with a good deal of justification, it was a prototype, and prototypes rarely if ever go into production without many tradeoffs and changes. The Cybertruck may resemble the 2019 prototype, but it's a very different vehicle. As such, any comparison of the two is apples to oranges, and mostly irrelevant. A balanced comparison would have included all the advantages the production Cybertruck has over the prototype. The only question now is whether a Cybertruck coming off the line today with the performance, features and capabilities it now has is worth the price. Apparently, many think so.
@truckedupevs
@truckedupevs 7 месяцев назад
Then maybe Musk shouldn't have made those claims in 2019. After the event and in the Motortrend article published at the time of the reveal, Musk claimed that the design, numbers, and specs were, "basically locked in". On Jay Leno's Garage, Musk stated that this was not a concept car and, in fact, other than adjusting the size, the final product's specs will be "better" than the prototype, which they clearly are not. So, for context, the only people that don't - or won't - see the glaring dichotomy are biased Tesla fans. Nice FSD channel, by the way.

Range is less an issue for Teslas because of the expanding Supercharger network and software that informs the driver of nearby chargers and estimated wait times.
