As a person who watches my miles per gallon with diesel gas and grew up with horses when I switch to EV‘s, I do the same thing! and you are exactly right. These batteries love summertime temperatures, and you hit the nail on the head of course with driving in stop and go traffic and slower country roads with curves and stops where you can regenerate more electricity back into the battery as you slow down. Exactly right good information for the public to keep in mind especially if we’re deciding which route to choose to go on a trip we may get where we’re going without having to stop for a charge or we may just be conserving our battery for efficiency sake ! whatever the reason it’s a good benefit to understand how this works thank you.

Does the 2023 lighting pro compare in the same way to the XLT and the same trims in 2024?
@truckedupevs
@truckedupevs 19 часов назад
Thank you for the comment! The big change for 2024 is the introduction of a heat pump HVAC management system, which does away with resistive heating systems and standard air conditioning. However, I was surprised to see that it didn't change the EPA range. I'm guessing that is because the air conditioner is very efficient in an ev. I imagine the range loss in the winter will be considerably improved because of it.

And the oil companies are buying stock in electric companies as you speak! And everyone is going to get a significant price increase in electric bills! Why? Because the infrastructure has to be built!! Fuel prices will begin to drop, while electric will rise. Common sense here!

Nope. The sneaky buggers swapped it to pay-only about two months ago. They are a little cheaper than Tesla but if I had my NACS adapter, I'd likely still go to a Super Charger, being that the Chevron ones can slow down as more users utilize them during the day (unlike Tesla's, they have an internal battery that drains down and has to be filled back up as they are used - dumb system). Hope this helps. Thanks for the comment!

I will be driving my F150 Lighting with extended battery from Richmond, BC to Dawson Creek, BC via the Pine pass. While pulling a 22 foot travel trailer. So 515 KM range will be cut in half. I have been doing the trips since 1979. I had to buy a F150 eco boost 3.5 2013 model because my SUV V6 did not enough power and range to pull my trailer from Prince George to Chetwynd on one full tank of gas. And in 4 gear because no power to get into OD (5 gear). Planning this trip July 8, 2024. Just enough range from Macleod Lake, BC (last 25 KW charger) on south side of Pine Pass. No north side of Pine Pass, next DC fast charger (not working) and Level 2 free charger is at East Pine River Rest area. 277 KM away. Planning to charge up at RV park with 240 VAC 50 amp outlet in Dawson Creek. Would be nice if there were DC fast chargers in Chetwynd, BC.

Man, that's some serious 'threading the needle'! You are so right. Where the heck are the real DC fast chargers for the rural trips that everyone will take, not the POS BC Hydro 'fast chargers' that are not much of a step up from a Level 2? We've got better torque and hill power, and we regen once over the passes, but the infrastructure, not the ride, is really where the biggest headaches lie for people doing what you do. BC Hydro and FLO are also dead last for reliability and I can't tell you how many times I've had to do some 'fancy dancing' to figure out how to get around one of their pieces of crap not operating. Any news on Tesla putting in any stations up your way? Have you received your NACS adapter yet? Thanks for the comment!

That's a great point. I was never a Ford guy for decades, but yeah, the bailout and how Ford handled itself changed my view. What clinched it for me was reading a book called 'Built To Last' and how the mission of the company for 120 years hasn't been to profit. The idea was that if you do all these other things right, profit will naturally come as a result, and few companies have been able to not only last but thrive for that long. Dodge is gone off since the Stellantis merger, but I still have high hopes for GM. They are doing a lot of things right. Hopefully, legacy auto weathers this newest global disruption as they did the Japanese auto market flood in the 70s. Awesome comment. Thank you for supporting the channel!

Ford CEO, Jim Farley shocked the room at the Aspen Ideas Festival when he delivered these three statements: 1) "If we don't make this ev transition...Ford 's not going to make it. That's how important this is for our country." 2) "So, we as a company, face a kind of ultimate fitness test... If we cannot make money on evs, we have (China) who has the the largest market in the world, who already dominates globally, who (is) already setting up their supply chain around the world, and if we don't make profitable evs...what's the future, just shrink into North America?" 3) "We created the Skunk-works two years ago with Alan Clark, who was the chief engineer of the Model Y & Model 3. He came from Tesla - left Tesla to go to Ford - and my badge doesn't work there. It's totally separate from Ford. And they've had a completely different approach, and it looks like they're going to be successful...We're going to bet the company on them." These are profound statements, and a testament to a legacy automaker truly fathoming the gravity of the situation. I would love to hear your thoughts, and where you think the future needs to go in order to be prepared for changing times.

I am wandering when a Ford Ranger will come out, except it may be too heavy for most markets with insufficient weight capacity. But for most businesses, they can only watch on as the Aussie governments hand out huge grants to multimillion dollar companies, as smaller companies have to listen to people call for bans, taxes and penalties being called for on the only vehicles they can afford.

@truckedupevs
@truckedupevs 10 дней назад
Thank you so much! No, but I expect we'll see a review pretty quick on exactly that. In my neck of the woods, and as you know in Canada, getting a rental on '24 is difficult but I hope to get my hands on one and run it through its paces, but when it matters most: Winter. According to Ford there has been no EPA change to the 2024 lineup, std range still at 240 miles, 320 for Flash and Lariat, and 300 for Platinum, so that was a bit of a surprise. I expected some slightly better stats. Charging speeds still 'suck', if one were to compare it to, say, the Silverada EV, which is able to achieve 350kw, which is mental! But it needs to do that with a battery pack at twice the size. At 155kw, it's not great, but I have trouble finding DC 'fast' charger sin my area that exceed 150kw. Once everyone has the new free NACS adapter (still waiting), and Tesla SuperChargers become a thing, Ford will start to look like the old guy on the block if they continue to ignore this glaring shortfall. I'm convinced that we are on the cusp of something big form Ford in the T3 Project, despite all the FUD saying otherwise. Fingers crossed. Again, thanks for the comment and for your electric channel, 'neighbour'!

I understand the potential inefficiency of this kind of engine, especially considering stellantis's quality issues and the costs (financial and environmental) of manufacturing. However, I think you greatly underestimate the desire/need to have a vehicle that isn't reliant on EV infrastructure for long trips. In many rural areas (mine included), the issue isn't not wanting to stop, it's not having anywhere to stop. Let alone the fact that many small towns don't have adequate EV infrastructure yet, there are those of us who go on long camping and overlanding trips where an extra jerry can can get you out of a sticky situation....but not if you can't burn gas.
@truckedupevs
@truckedupevs 11 дней назад
The answer that comes to my mind is to improve the access to superchargers/DC fast chargers. It's strange when I view Europe and even here in Canada where even the small towns have DC fast chargers (even though many aren't that fast and suck), I am perplexed as to why one of the most innovative and creative countries in the world is absolutely bombing on ev infrastructure in rural areas. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this. Also if overlanding or back-country camping is the goal, wouldn't the development of third-party lithium-ion 'tidy tanks' that are proposed to be coming within the next 24 months solve that? Currently, we're not there in rural America. I agree. But I wonder if it's not worth hanging on to the ICE truck, waiting two years, and discovering that the worries that make the Ramcharger viable could already be obsolete? That's my worry about this direction. It reminds me of Hydrogen in an attempt to replace evs. It's a stop-gap with high risks. I absolutely agree, however that, without these developments, EV trucks could be a big challenge for mid to long haul applications for those in areas with no charging service. A series hybrid makes a lot of sense in such applications. However, overall, for over 85% of all truck owners who will never do any of the things you point out, this truck makes no sense and any ev truck currently on the market today could do all of those requirements without having to spend a penny on gasoline, diesel, or ICE related maintenance. This is great food for thought and a healthy discussion. Thanks for this!

Recently checked out the Lightnings at our local dealer in Hawkesbury, Ontario. When I pulled in and parked to do a walk around ( without a bothersome sales person), I saw that they had 5 parked in a row .... all presented prominently near the road. I found 1 xlt with a $69,000 price tag on it..... all of the rest were $80,000 and up over $100,000. I went in and found a sales person and talked for a bit. He said that the xlt was sold, but he could find another easily. They had one Pro in awhile ago and it sold in 2 hours. Still too much, but I have the advantage that my current 2012 Ram is still running great.✌.
@truckedupevs
@truckedupevs 11 дней назад
Yeah, the problem lies in the dealerships order allocations rather than what people want. Almost everyone wants the XLT and the Pro, but the dealerships are all ordering the most expensive Lariats and Platinums. We hear a lot about large Lightning inventories on dealer lots. It's their own undoing. There are close to ZERO available base trims in the entire country! To try to curb this, Ford launched the Flash trim, which is huge value for the money, but none of the dealers in my area have brought any in. The best approach is to go on Ford's Build & Price, and just build the truck and order it yourself. Don't forget the $5,000 Canadian Federal incentive that should drive the price down further. But I think you have the right approach. If someone has a reliable truck and it's working fine, why replace it? I took exactly the same approach as you until the transmission went in my previous truck. Thank you for all the information and great feedback, Don!

@@truckedupevs Those figures are incorrect. It's $209,900 before on road costs for the Extended Range - still very expensive. Gas, diesel, natural gas, hydrogen, rail, steam...it's a means to an end. Electrification has been weaponized, polarized, and politicized to the point where facts and figures mean little to the wilfully ignorant. Cognitive dissonance is a thing - and some folk wear it like a badge. Hang in there. Good product and excellent, efficient, technology will eventually be impossible to discount or resist.

Lightning XLT extended $74,000 msrp!!! Yikes!!! Not what i was willing to part with. Gave up on Lightning after watching them in vids for months. But in March 2024 a dealership here in Mass adverrtised 3 rebates of $7500 each!!! What? I went down next day for test drive..... and made the deal. Thats right....over $21,000 off!!!! VERY pleased thus far after 3000 miles. Except for turn radius lol. Got the Lectron Tesla adaptor and I dont experience range anxiety any more. Unfortunately we have high electric rates on cape cod....31 cents kwh. but even that puts me, at minimum, MINIMUM... DOUBLE the milles per dollar that an ice truck would get. Double? Yup! I estimate the fuel savings to be about 15 grand over the course of ten yrs..... $1500/yr !!! I dont tow so no big deal. Its really a case by case basis. Got to do your homework and society got to do better on charging infrastructure.

Congratulations! That's a great story! Yeah, the prices were just stupid, and then things cooled, and thank goodness. I am now seeing these things everywhere - and often pulling camping trailers (being I live in the Canadian mountains). They can;t to w as far, of course, but where most people are camping out here have 30 or 50-amp plugs at the campsites! Like you, I have saved so much money since going to an electric truck. Now that we've moved, the plan is to eventually go solar on the new house and drive for free. We'll see how that goes :-). Thank you so much for the comment. Keep 'em comin'!

This truck is the future, no one is buying a truck that has a towing range of 80 miles.
@truckedupevs
@truckedupevs 10 дней назад
Sure looks like a truck of the past to a lot of experts and engineers. There isn't a single EV truck on the market that has a towing rnge that low. Even the Cybertruck in the middle of winter over a mountain pass managed 100 and that thing is nowhere near as good as its competitors. But hey, buy what works for you, but a lot of truck folk ARE buying EV trucks, and many models haven't even entered the market yet (over 80,000 in the past 12 months, and growing).

@@dannysdailys You need to find some new tropes, buddy. All of your FUD 'points' are false. In one sentence, you say Ford can't give away Lightnings (sales are UP over 80% y-o-y Link here...if you can handle big words: insideevs.com/news/716411/ford-resumes-2024-f-150-lightning-sales/) and then say 80 grand for a truck ($ are down almost $20k. Link is here, if you can count: ca.news.yahoo.com/2024-ford-f-150-lightning-133800063.html). Reading and getting actual facts might help, but I doubt you're capable of either by the sounds of things. Anyway, enough time spent entertaining foul-mouthed, angry little boys...

Non Tesla Chargers are such crap ! They are getting better but they are still crap ! And the speed of most chargers ( non Tesla ) that are reliable are 30 -100 kw . There is a ChargePoint in my town that is always working with no issues but it’s freaking measly 62kw. Also a 30kw ChargePoint at the Kia dealership that while free is SLOW! I’ll happily pay for reliability and speed ! But EA failed me to many times ! Pass ! Their 350s are broke most of the time ! Their 125s are more reliable but still shit ! If we get reliable charging out there more people will adopt EVs !

Different video from RAM indicating that the generator doesn't engage until the power gets 'drawn down' - kind of vague but seems to imply that it's not charging all the time as per the other video. I'm more inclined to believe this video as the speaker in is actually involved with producing the vehicle. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6yWxC2XhvUM.html Frankly, I'm surprised we haven't been using this old technology in personal vehicles up until now. It is true that it adds more complexity. That is one thing I lament about modern vehicles in general; There are so many ECMs built into ICE vehicles now that one needs to be an EE, CE and mechanic to do any work on any vehicle built in recent times. I suspect most owners will just be taking their vehicle to a mechanic regardless. Hopefully they use quality parts with rigorous engineering to ensure that the electronics can withstand the abuse that a truck is subjected to. This truck is ideal for someone like myself. I would love to do all my around town driving on a battery charge and then rely on the generator for my time off grid where I have no access to a charge a battery. I currently use my truck with a V8 4.7l motor for ALL driving. My around town driving really consumes a large amount of fuel and it is quite a waste. My problem is that I need the truck capability too frequently to have just a car or to rely on renting a truck every time I need one. I think I saw somewhere that this is predicted to go for somewhere in the range of $60k-$98k. It boggles my mind that people can afford to pay this much for a vehicle. Too expensive for me to stomach purchasing one. I also have never been one to be a product guinea pig. I prefer to have the wrinkles ironed out before I get involved. I will definitely be keeping my eye on the new Ramcharger, though.

I think you're right. When I first filmed this video, I was of the same mind as everyone else, until the comment surfaced by RAM, so I added it after my first shoot before posting it. And, in a later interview that appeared on YT with the engineer, he was very vague in answering a direct question regarding it. I'm hopeful we'll be able to drive in some kind of all-electric mode most of the time, but I've heard we're looking easily north of $80k USD. More estimates are coming in closer to six figures. That's just bonkers. Until trucks start to get down to working folks' budgets, these things will remain play toys for the well healed. However, like you, once the kinks are ironed out, I am on the notification list with RAM when this becomes available in my country (Canada is usually a year behind access in the US). All great points! Thank you for the informative and extremely helpful comment.
