KH1 has so many small little details, but my favorite is definitely the one from neverland. When you arrive you get the cutscene where riku creates a heartless out of your shadow and it gets reflected in game, from that point until you defeat that boss Sora won't have a shadow, even if you go to other worlds
I think the reason why details like this and world interaction are not in the later games is because a lot of people didn't seem to care for it or even notice in KH1 and didn't want to explore their surroundings, they wanted to know where to go since in KH1 you didn't have much of a clue on where to go in most worlds. Honestly I loved everything in KH1. Using magic with the environment to progress or receive items like using Ice to freeze the bubbles in Hollow Bastion's basement or casting fire to ignite the fireplace in Cid's shop, using magic to create potions in Deep Jungle. Finding items hidden in the environment like hitting the fan in Huey's, Dewey's and Louie's shop, changing the time on the clock tower in Neverland then interacting with the doors above it. Finding the trinity symbols and Dalmation puppies. Alternate cutscenes. The minigames. The characters. There's so much stuff in KH1 that made it successful and absolutely amazing. I really love this series and enjoy the other games, but KH1 will always be my favorite of all time.
I'm not gonna lie, you're entirely right. For all of KH1's occasional clunkiness and basic content it really, really is probably the best one in the series. KH2 had a lot of good added gameplay elements but KH1 had the most love and care.
There's something special about KH1 that always felt different about any other KH game, I think these small details and interactive puzzles really added that extra magical something to the game that made it just so extraordinary and memorable. I'll never forget the feeling I had when I rented it out from Video Ezy all those years ago and playing it for the first time as a kid. I remember begging my parents for them to buy it a week later hahah. Really enjoying these videos mate, they bring back those feelings and more. Tbh never even knew about the scale dial until now, absolutely incredible. Thank you!
It was made at the tail end of the Squaresoft era right before it became Square Enix, so it was one of a kind in that way. It's my favorite title for some of the reasons you listed too.
Same thing here about there being something special to Kh1. It’s always had a certain charm to it for me that makes me feel like an adventurous kid exploring cool and mysterious worlds. A feeling no other game was able to recreate
I always loved the little environmental interactions you could have in KH1. Tree climbing in Destiny Islands, swinging with vines in Tarzan's world, etc. I actually played and finished KH2 first, and when I played KH1 I couldn't understand why they streamlined the level design so much and took away these little mechanics. It added to the charm.
Yep, there was always an air of mystery in KH1 like there was more to discover, something that was unfortunately lost in future games, although I will say that in KH2 a trade-off of combat over platforming and exploration is personally a good one.
An attention to detail that surprised me in my most recent playthrough, was that Agrabah is populated by NPC's, but ONLY after you clear the world but before you leave, they disappear afterwards forever and each NPC has more than a couple lines of unique dialogue. I saw you made a video about it, but I wanted to draw attention to it again in case anyone stopping by missed it!
I'd like to add that the Soft Version of Halloween Town was likely intentional, rather than scrapped and briefly featured. First visit to Halloween Town has the soft version featured and stays like that indefinitely until Jack gets introduced during the cinematic with him and the mayor. I've always thought the reason for this was to save the original for Jack's appearance, as sort of a special moment since he really is a beloved character among Disney movies and that song fits his character perfectly.
@@dmas7749 The Original "This is Halloween" song begins playing immediately when the second scene in the world begins. The one where the mayor and Jack are introduced. From that point on, the alternate version does not play. This happens long before the heartless get "out of control." Listen to the music after the "non-fighting" scene with the search ghosts and how it breaks to the beginning of "this is Halloween" right when the second cutscene begins. That's where the soft version cuts off and moves to the original.
One of the coolest details in this game is how the cutscenes in the Monstro world change slightly after you have progressed through the story a certain amount.
Oooh yes, or how the princess the disney villains captured would be either Snow White or Alice depending on if you've been to Wonderland or not. God KH1 was so good with details.
There’s a blink and you miss it final fantasy Easter egg in Atalantica, in Ariels Grotto if you active the music box it’ll play the theme from Final Fantasy 7. Also in Atlantica if you talk to Sebastian once you reach the palace he’ll tell you about Ursula’s backstory
In destiny Islands, in the secret place where you find Ansem, the drawings on the wall show various moments in the game. There's one where theres a castle (either Hallow Bastion or Castle of Oblivion) and another one with a duck character, which is donald. I can't remember the other drawings but it was mind blowing when I replayed it recently.
splitprune I think this is a basic summary on how I think they play based on watching them.BBS and 3D look clunky as all hell. KH 2 is the masterpiece of the group, While KH3 is decent. Chain of memories is less clunky than BBS but still a bit clunky. 358/2 days is a Clunky mess that I loved playing through for some reason. Coded looks like days but with a command deck
@@raulphilipgoco403 I think 1 and 2 are the only ones that have gameplay I would call good. Anything with a command deck removes interesting combat to replace it with flashy anime moves, 3's combat looks cool and feels decent but it's bloated with combat options and the fights aren't particularly interesting for the most part. 2 was super smooth and fast paced, felt great, but I prefer the slower, simple feel of 1's combat if I'm honest. Simplicity is why I prefer 1 generally too.
There's so much stuff from KH1 that i miss, the experiments you could do with the environment (from Traverse town to deep down jungle and more),the trio markers which unlocked stuff or changed the environment and i feel like Traverse Town is and will always be the most memorable world, exploring three neighborhoods, going into buildings, the backalley leading to the hotel rooms, really memorable stuff for some reasons. I mean Hollow Bastion/Twilight Town in KH2,Disney World in BBS,Traverse Town 2 in DDD and the cities in KH3 too are great but nothing will ever beat Traverse Town i feel.
After playing Final Fantasy 7, Aerith giving you curaga makes so much sense! That is her thing! I didn't love Aerith just playing KH because those were my first experiences with her but since Remake came out I love her so much and I am now about to start working my way through the original
Fun fact; you can actually just ring the bell once or twice, let it switch, and then jump down to look at them up close too. I think it resets if you leave the area though.
I really liked the video. I already knew some of the things but there were others that were completely new to to me. KH1 is just the most charming game of the whole series. Therefore it is kind of sad that they didn't put as many charming little details into the later games. But anyways, keep up the good work.
This is such a pleasant video. The details themselves arent that interesting, but the way you talk about them really shows how it FEELS to play this game. KH1 feels so much more alive, magical, and mysterious than the other games (or most any game, for that matter). It has such a special atmosphere to it, and you showcased that very well in this video. 👍
I loved this aspect of KH1. There are a ton of secrets in Hollow Bastion (best world), like in your first fight with Riku the door upstairs is locked behind bars, and you can freeze the bubbles in the world to get hidden chests. There are a lot of hidden chests there in general. In Wonderland, the chairs that reward you if you sit on them don't have armchairs, those that do punish you. In Olympus you get different rewards whether you put out the torches with blizzarra or blizzagga. There are also a few secrets in neverland, but I can only remember the chests that appear in Big Ben. I wonder if anyone botherd to check Atlantica for secrets besides a few easter eggs in Ariel's treasure room
It took me literally over a decade to figure out you could freeze those bubbles!! There was a chest in the "lab" under Hollow Bastion where the metal bar walls/gates move back and forth. I can't tell you how many hours I spent trying to get to that damned chest! Haha
@@luxintenebris1776 Yes me too! I thought there was some way to move the gates to get to another section and I spent hours moving them round trying to get that chest
It wasnt until a few years ago that i found out that you can meet Pinocchio before Monstro. I was always confused as to why Donald and Sora recognized him in the opening cutscene
In the Accessory Shop, around the time when you seal Traverse Town's keyhole. It's common to completely miss him because of the camera's initial angling when entering the shop, and how theres no real reason to stick around TT after Cid installs the Navi-G.
Just recently learned about the hole that Sabor can make in the Deep Jungle Treehouse and my mind was a little blown by this completely missable environment destruction
Having played all the games except 0.2 and 3, KH1 is still my favorite in the series. The combat and mecanics may not be as good as KH2, but there's something about the first one that stands out for me.
I think one of the coolest that doesn't really get mentioned is when you first meet Donald and Goofy and fight the guard armor, they wont say your name when healing you since they dont learn your name until after the battle. Maybe it's super obvious but I think it's a cool attention to detail
@@supertony1239 you can, when you get in monstro you can leave with a save point and do the other worlds, you only need to do 2 out of the 3 worlds (those 3 being Atlantica, Halloween Town, and monstro) to unlock Neverland, so if you keep leaving monstro and save it until after hallow bastion then the cutscenes in monstro change, they were that thorough with the details in the first game
Man, now I want to go back and play the game. I totally get when you mean when you say there’s something uniquely charming about the first Kingdom Hearts.
oh i just noitced , you only have 245 subs , you video quality looks like a pretty popular and experienced youtube , i'll make sure to follow you and thx for doing these types of videos , and the halloween town song , i am pretty sure i heard the other version before alot , not sure if it was in 1 or in other games tho
haha well a couple weeks ago it was over 100 less than that, I guess this video got some attention, which honestly made me nervous because I wasn't used to lots of people commenting and stuff haha
Kingdom hearts 1 will always be my fav in a special way it gives that actual friendship feeling when summoning and stuff you connect to the Disney characters more and playing kdh 3 even it didn’t feel the same
358/2 days (My favorite game of all time) actually keeps the interactable score board from Olympus colloseum. I don't know about KH2. I might have to replay that one
Making this a series would be awesome. KH1 definitely has the most smaller details but the whole series has so many cool details like namine's room in KH2 having a special command board
Omg I'm kicking myself in the ass for the World Terminus one XD I played Kingdom hearts for years and that a time I replayed it I'd always go through them thinking I was obligated even though I completed every single world oh my God 🤣
Kingdom Hearts 2 was an amazing game. I think there might be something to the butterflies. They're linked to the concept of Butterfly's Dreams. And then we see TT as a sleeping world on a game about dreams. And the Verum Rexstuff seems to be very dream like and billboards in Verum rex mention virtual reality technology called cocoons. Butterflies come from cocoons. DDD has a keyblade with a butterfly and a gazing eye as its keychain too.
Yes, I was thinking of that just now, there is also the way the screen fades after boss battles and how the opening of the first has Sora questions if "any of this real or not?", I think the first game was supposed to have a dream theme that was either dropped or so below the surface that most people would not notice.
You should watch the video from Regular Pat if you haven’t. He found 90 interesting details in KH1. Link: m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KgnT5_m30VQ.html
I don't really like KH1 Gameplay, but the worlds in KH1 are soooooooooo good. I love all the Wonderland interactions and secrets, and the Hollow Bastion ones. Most of the worlds in KH1 have this little secrets, little interactions that miss so much in the franchise. I don't know why they kind of abandoned this in the latter games. Haven't really played a lot from KH3 to say they have truly brought back this feeling, but I sense that they at least tried.
Just stumbled onto your videos by chance & i have to say, listening to your voice is very charming & relaxing. Looking forward to your future videos 😊😊 take care & thank you
I love the videos on this channel. You're on the money, KH1 was full of details and puzzles that kept the game engaging through till the end. The first game was so special and I felt part of the world they were creating, even the cover art had me wanting to know what was in the castle behind them! Honestly, KH titles since have felt like i'm just moving through empty rooms with crazy confusing storylines. I hope the next title has no more music games (i'm looking at you Atlantica) and focuses more on puzzle solving/quality storytelling like the first game.
KH1 was basically a love letter to Final Fantasy and Disney as a whole. I don’t feel that they’ve recreated that same magic in any of the prequels/sequels.
i remember leaving my game on to listen to halloween town's "soft" version on that note how cool would it be if clearing a world in a KH game changed the field music?
The clock tower doors can be opened for 12 items, one per real time hour passed. The white mushroom sidequest to use all the different spells depending on their gesture to then get goofy's shield from Merlin is cool too. Using gravity to instantly drop Maleficent's platform or chests that are floating on platforms. Using ice to freeze the water bubbles in Hollow Bastion and then jump on them to reach a chest. There's a clock secret in a hotel room in Traverse Town where paintings on the wall give you clues to hit the clock over and over until a chest appears. I know these are more gameplay related details but i always appreciated them.
Idk if anyone else has told you this but the two different versions of the Halloween town theme are actually just the same theme except the “soft” version has the melody line taken out. Anyone who knows a bit about music can probably attest to that. The core song / bass line is still the same but the main theme that you’re used to hearing is removed, making it sound similar but also different.
This is why k1 is my favorite in the series so many details that no other future game had. I think part of the reason for this is that when they created the new ip they put in all the energy they had back than and it also helped that Nomura dint completely went insane at this point.(even though I love it and it is what makes it what it is) I so deeply hope kh4 will try and return to its roots a. It trying to be overall just charming Ps: wait I dint know that thats what the colors of the pillars meant but it's extremly cool showing you that these world are much safer but my question is how can you complete the game without closing the key holes? I know it's possible with Hercules world but every other is needed for story progression isn't it?
Hopefully they wont return to that habit in kh4. Not because i hate kh1 secrets, quite the opposite. But imagine kh3 with its annoyingly huge empty vertically worlds...its just not working. In kh1 it worked cause of the mapsize limitation so you could afford to look into every nook and cranny without running around for hours.
I never knew the fountain was Lady and the Tramp.. I never knew a puppy followed you in the home... I only ever went in those other rooms when have to when in TT first time XD all other times took other paths to alleyway and just went in front door to get my rewards and left >.< now kinda feel bad i didn't just walk through house over and over
Hey man love the whole memory flashbacks here to appreciate kingdomhearts as a whole and what it really means to people. Maybe you should stick to a track like do a plsy thru series or something all up to you of course and what makes you happy but i would so be down to go thru all the kh games with you lol
@@NovayonKH hey just seen this for sure man i mean im not sure of what console you have but if money is tight or time consumed theres always the record sharing button on ps4 just it's harder to edit i would think if you took it out with a flash drive
Donald teaches Sora fire, a Phil teaches Sora thunder, Bambi, a woodland creature, is received as a prize in the 100 acre wood, most of the things in the bizarre room can be popped up. Mushu became available, after slaying a dragon, Squall leonheart/Leon gave you a lion, The tea party room actually has you change seats like in the movie, to see all the reward possibilities, Ms pots. Chip and the like are seen in deep jungle, just like they cameos in Tarzan. But aside from that, I’m fascinated with the world building. In spite of how the story is, every single thing that there could be to talk about, stemmed from this game.
I will disagree on the bit about needing the FF characters. There's nothing really to do with the ones that are there already outside of Cloud and Sephiroth, which 3 just kinda ignored anyway. The other ones...they made it home. They're rebuilding their home and doing a good job of it. That's...kind of it for them, their arc is finished and if 3 is anything to go by, we really *don't* need that crew anymore. If anything, it's more to do with the fact that the series lost a ton of its charm after the first game. It became action, action, action, so much tightly constructed combat that basically everything else suffered for it. The story became a wacky roller coaster, there's very little in terms of balance in any of these combat systems (*even and most especially 2*), there's barely anything to explore in these worlds and with videos like these, there's an immense amount of small details that just can't exist in later games and what I would consider rather funny their habit of bouncing between console and handheld kept the graphics gated at the PS2 until KH3 slapped them upside the head and go "enough, you're actually on a new CONSOLE for once."
I knew about all of this except the scale one. I remember as a kid playing the base game of Kingdom Hearts and being so excited when I randomly spoke to Aerith and got the cure upgrade by accident. It's details like that in the 1st game I kind of wish later game added more of. KH2 is my favorite of the series, but admittingly doesn't have that level of detail with many of its levels.
I love how the golden age Squaresoft games are full of little details and extras that give the game world so much more depth. The downside of this, at least for me personally, is that I can't play through a Squaresoft game anymore, because I get too distracted by the little extras and bonus content sprinkled throughout, that I'm too occupied, and want to complete everything in an area before I move on. I really wanna play and finish FFIX...
Awesome 👏 see final fantasy crossing over with Disney character in kh old game really awesome 😎 and cool too visit other Disney movie 🍿 world 🌍 very wonderful and excellent
in all my years and playthroughs. i've always completed worlds. i've been aware that you can skip some in theory. didn't know it would change something at the end of the world. really cool video and enjoying these on your channel. On a side note: (kinda creepy/unsettling thing i find in KH1) at the end of the world. the sound effect for when sora walks is the squelchy sound effect. even when you go to world terminus or destiny islands. you're not hearing soras shoes on hardwood, grass, or sand. Instead its that unsettling semi organic squelch. i've always found seeing one thing and hearing something else an unsettling.
The End of The World level, as you go through each distorted room, if you look at the landscape close enough you realize some it are places like Snow White's and Cinderella's worlds. Talk about dark!
I miss all these little details in the later KH games. Discovering them at 10 years old was SO satisfying and honestly, it's why I search every nook and cranny of every game I've played afterward.
Man, your vídeos are really awsome, but please, could you speak a bit slow? We that don't have English as main languague are having trouble to understand what you're saying.
KH1 definitely has this different vibe that can feel a bit weird and strange at times. For KH2, there's The World That Never Was. I wouldn't describe that world as creepy, but it's very eerie at times, in a very alluring way. It's these ethereal and eerie aspects of KH I really love, once you dig deeper than the basic surface level of this series.
The living detailed world is one of the biggest reasons this one is my favourite, along with the heavier combat and relatively simple plot. I feel like the worlds lost their soul when they had no secrets or puzzles, the combat was kind of improved in a sense for 2 but I don't like the direction they took it in, even less so for the handhelds, the plot has been beyond repair since 2004, and I can't stand what these games are anymore.
One detail I find interesting, is that in Halloweentown, the Heartless are redesigned a bit. They're given this gritty texture that makes them seem more like the puppets from the movie. It's enough that you can easily imagine them in stop-motion.
After I discovered the puppy follows u around for the 1st time I always spend 10 to 20 minutes just watching it trying to catch up with me. I know that sounds like an absurd amount of time when it comes to that detail in a video game game but its just too damn cute
