Dude, these are great! Make this a regular segment! Not only will we all watch them all in full - we will watch it multiple times back n forth to repeat practice. And again in following weeks to drill them I to long term memory. You have a lovely, simple & melodic way of phrasing - I've always thought that.
Darrell, I have watched many of your videos over the years, mostly gear reviews, and they are always good. However, this type of teaching video is really superb, and judging from the other comments, many agree. Please continue these types of teaching videos.
Darrell. I've been playing a couple years and work the pentatonics pretty regularly to a backtrack. I'm doing 5 of these at a time. I just want to thank you for putting this out. You should sleep like a baby at night knowing all the joy you're bringing to people. God bless.
Great lesson I've been teaching and playing lead guitar for 40 yrs. But I fell in the trap of minor pentatonic scale and modes for so long but neglected major pentatonic therefore have trouble visualizing licks in the major version. This video opened door to where I can visual new licks in the Major pentatonic.Great Video👍
I don't usually comment in this type of video but man...this is quality content, continue with this great work Darrel, this is premium teaching and content 👏
Thank you so much, Darrell, for this video...love that PRS! Recently bought a used 2014 PRS-SE Custom (Vintage Sunburst) and just ADORE it--love the way the neck feels in my hand and how light-weight they are. Hope to get a PRS-CE someday...is there really that big of a difference between the two? Keep the great videos coming.
@@chadbouterse8617 oh. Thx for the tip. No, I don't want a PRS to be a superstrat - there are too many fantastic superstrats for that. I want a PRS to be more Les Paul...but with Strat concessions to playability. So...DGT? 🤷♂️
If you just want something of nicer quality that is more les paulish with strat concessions.. you could just go with a core custom 24... Just for some perspective, I’ve had just about every model that PRS makes under $4000 and the two that Ive kept and love are a Core Paul’s guitar (very les paulish with a thicker neck and infinite tone possibilities) and a CE (very super strat, hair metally with a thinner neck). Of course, you could play any style of music with either, but thats the vibe i get inspired by them. The best advise I can give you if to find a PRS dealer with a lot of stock when your ready and spend a few hours playing them all. You’ll know which one speaks to you and thats the one you want :)
Thanks for the licks! Slower licks need to be accurate so each bend, note has a chance to shine- well done simple lesson! My biggest problem with solos(other than me playing😆) is trying to smoothly transition to things the licks together. Any suggestions?
Dear Darrel, thank you so much for these wonderful licks and the accompanying backing track. I've been looking for something like this for a long time. You have motivated me as an electric guitar beginner not to give up playing solo. please more of these practical aids. i love your channel. Greetings from Cologne, Germany. Wolf 👍
This is the first time in my 3 years of trying to play that I was able to play something with some melody. I especially loved that there are so many potential variations that jump out at me. 🤯🤯
Thanks Darrel! I've been playing for a while and have all the pentatonic shapes down, but still lack the "vocabulary", as it were, to put licks together. This will give me a great start, cheers!
Darrell - thank you for this video...just what I needed. Not only great sounding licks to keep in my back pocket (to quote you), but also learning some new techniques. Like lick 7 with the bend while keeping the pinky anchored...never thought I'd get that but I did!! that makes me so happy!! thank you!!
Hey Darrell. These licks have taught me a lot. I’ve been going over them quite a bit and it’s really helped me out! I’m no longer in a rut. So thanks for being the most melodic guitarist in the RU-vid community. It’s coherent and it sounds great.
I do find DB to be EXTREMELY melodic. Never hear him play something that isn't gorgeous. When he did that Xavier/Guitarfetish Les Paul review, he just starts playing gorgeous lines to a backing track.
These are awesome! Beginner with one month under my belt as of today. Been working on these for two days along with pentatonic and some chords. But I love these little licks. Not great at the slides.....need to have my volume higher up and use my humbucker rather than single coil on my superstrat. I can get a slide to go forward but not really good at going backwards....and certainly not the forward and back. But still have fun with it and working on it. Thanks!
Cool licks. When you throw in the G note, which isn’t strictly in pentatonic does that make it more D major? Still trying to learn the difference between the various scales and how they are named. Cheers! 🎸
Thank you!!! for sharing that lovely licks!!!!, With your inpiration I did my better solo after one year playing guitar. (I start With 46) greetings from Spain 🤟😎, you play cojonudo 🎸
Hey Darrell! Love the vids man. Saved up some money and been thinking about buying either this guitar or the new fender ultra HSS strat. Would love to hear your opinion on which one I should use!
Great tutorial,.love the content and the laid back delivery style, I've only just discovered your channel and will enjoy working my way through it I'm sure. 🤘
God...At last learned some proper licks after watching this..thank you so much..keep up your good work..could you please to the same with minor pentatonic as well..thank you...
